Intro Thread + my first Mat
Ok, I knew about intro treads but for some reason wanted to hold off till I could introduce my first Matriarch (or Pat).
Me first, fairly standard for a gamer, a 30 yr old programmer from Utah. I've been playing games since the Atari 2600 (about 10 years old).
I bought Diablo several months after it came out but I have a wierd patience with games. I buy games I know or think I'll like and then let them sit untill I feel like playing them. Diablo II sat for over a year (funny cause I loved Diablo 1). I finally started playing it a little, finished normal with a bowazon and a sorc, both poorly made. Then one day I saw LoD on sale on Amazon for $10, did a little research into what was in LoD and got so excited that I could wait so I went and bought it at a local store for about $20.
That was about two months ago, I've been playing it fairly consistently since then, both on bnet and SP. Anyways, I mostly wanted to try hardcode so I blasted through softcore normal with a properly made Bowazon and now have a few low level hardcore ladder chars that I play occasionally.
Since I only have crummy dial-up at home I play SP alot and after finding some decent stuff but nothing I was looking for I started looking for somewhere to trade. I tried open Bnet but that didn't go well, finally I had this conversation with a kid:
Me: Do you have any decent Bows for trade.
Him: No, do you have any Hacks?
Me: No, not into them.
Him: Want to see mine?
Me: No, bye.
After that I decided I needed to look somewhere else? I lurked on the Hardcore forums here and after searching the web and finally reasorting to reading the SP Faq here I realized that somehow I had completely missed this SPF. (I do have occasional clueless lapses)
I was totally thrilled to find a great legit group of SP players.
On to my newly Matriarched Bowazon, she was the first char I built and as such was a complete mess. All the normal mistakes apply "I'll just put two points everywhere" and as somewhere else said "Life, you can't kill any monsters with Life." Luckily I knwe Dextarity was important but I didn't know much else so usually it was two points in dextarity and one everywhere else.
I did make three exceptions to the put two everywhere rule: strafe ,decoy and Valkerie. I thought those wre all a waste for and they got none. Finally at about level 45 I put a point in strafe and thought wpw this is great, then at level 55 and 56 I put points in decoy and valk and got rid of my Act 1 Rouge for a Might Merc and quickly wondered what on earth I had been thinking prior to that.
So, after a very late start, here are the stats on my lvl 83 GA/Strafazon.
strength: 105 (140)
Dexterity: 227 (262)
Vitality: 105

Strafe Damage: 417-1503
Defense: 1374
Stamina: 251

Fire: 33
Cold: 75
Lightning: 41

I've got a Buriza, with Witch Wild String on switch (to remove PI)
A Manald Heal Ring, Chromatic Amulat (+30 to all resists), and Cobalt Ring of the Leech (I rorate this ring to up the resist I need the most at the moment)
Mav's gloves and belt, Natalya's Souls, and a Rare Circlet with +1 amazon skills, 7% life leech, and +14 to all resists. Also I've got a Smoke Wire Fleece (spectacular fairly easy rune word imho)
My Merc is at Lvl 82 With a BoneHew (Hel Amn), Ethereal Touthrow (shael) and a RockStopper (though both the BoneHew and RockStopper are very recent additions(mid Act 4 and Mid Act 5)
Skills (this should be a laugh)
Cold Arrow: 2
Magic Arrow: 4
Multi-Shot: 8
Guided Arrow: 14
Strafe: 14
Fire Arrow: 3
Exploding Arrow: 2
Inner Sight: 2
Slow Missiles: 2
Decoy: 4
Valkerie: 20
Dodge: 2
Avoid: 2
Evade: 2
Critical Stike: 10
Penetrate: 11
Pierce: 9
As for the actual Finishing details, most parts wern't to bad, (loved Act 3, flayers, Rat men, Stygan dolls ect. were made for strafazons) Hell Ancient were kicking my rear, they were all one hit killing me. after a while I was sure I was going to have to retire my bowazon without beating them. Finally I put on My Dwarf Star Ring. The plus 40 life seemed to just put me over the 1 hit kill mark and the pluses to stamina allowed me to run almost non-stop (plus Mav's belt and Natalya's Souls put me at +60 run/walk) Then I ran around and strafed when I had enough distance and after forever finished them off (with one health potion to spare).
Ball was a little bit of a challenge, I think mostly because I forgot my Baal killer, my mercs WoeStave (upped to Exceptional), with Freeze Target, Slows Target and four or five non-ED damage mods this thing does way more damage than its damage reading says. My merc ended up getting himself un-invited (i.e. killed while I was starting to get a bit low on money). I did figure out a neat trick for non-melee chars, attack with you back to a wall and Baal's Ice attack can't puch you along and hit you like 5 times. Anyways this fight took awhile but was never in question.
Well, that's way longer that I thought it would be but hopefully it answers several questions without them being asked and may have been god for a few laughs.
