Infinity + Freezing Arrow + Ice + Facets

Now I know this has been brought up before, but I just want to check this for myself to see if this could work finally. I'm going through this on a step by step basis, so if commenting, please use that step.

Step 1:
Infinity = level 12 Conviction, so -85% resistances.
Though, for immunes, it will do 1/5th, so -17%, right or not?

Step 2:
Then I'd like to add 2 Facet Jewels on my merc, this would make it -10% Resistance to Cold. This would bring it to -27%, right or not?

Step 3:
Then I'd like to add an Ice runeword bow, with -20% Resistance to Cold.
This would make it -47% right or not?

Alternative scenario:
Conviction applies first and only lowers resistances of 116% to 99% after which the other -resistances can work...

Re: Infinity + Freezing Arrow + Ice + Facets

Your alternative scenario is correct.

Only Conviction and the Lower Resist curse can break elemental immunities. All other sources of -res work only if the immunity is broken.

Re: Infinity + Freezing Arrow + Ice + Facets

Hmmm, did some research and testing ingame already.

Hell, Act 1, Cold Plains, Gargantuan Beast.
This big animal has 100% Cold Resistance, and with it Immunity.
With Infinity, this immunity was removed and I could Freeze the beast.

Hell, Act 2, Arcane Sanctuary, Ghoul Lord.
This Vampire has 110% Cold Resistance, and with it Immunity.
With Infinity, this immunity was removed. Hooray for Freezing Arrow!

Hell, Act 1, Dark Wood, Brute.
This big animal has 120% Cold Resistance, and alas immunity.
Infinity could NOT remove immunity, alas...

Indeed, it is as I feared, the bad scenario... :(

Re: Infinity + Freezing Arrow + Ice + Facets

-res on your mercenary has no affect on your own attacks.

It does have to a certain extend. When I use Ice instead of a normal bow, my cold attacks do more damage because of the enhanced -resists.

Example:
100% cold immune with infinity -> 83% resistance.
100% cold immune with infinity + ice runeword -> 63% resistance for my attacks.

Now, I know that after 1% the immunity is broken and the rest of the 85% lowers the resistance already, but you get the idea.

Brilliant plan of me, 3P1C PH41L :(
