Indecisive on K/T gear (helm/gloves, specifically)

Hello, folks

I have reached a point with my K/T sin where I'd like to make a slight gear tweak, but am a bit indecisive on which gear path to choose, so I am calling on some outside opinions and advice from the community here.

Current setup:
Helm - Guillaume's Face ("Um")
Armor - "Enigma" dusk shroud
Gloves - Dracul's Grasp (8% LL, 10 str)
Boots - Gore Riders (upped)
Belt - Thundergod's Vigor
Weapon - "Last Wish" phase blade (67% CB, 370% ED)
Amulet - Mara's Kaleidoscope (23%)
Ring 1 - 6% ML / +19 str / 12% LR / 10% CR / +7 min / 26 AR
Ring 2 - Raven Frost (15 dex, 249 AR - really need to get around to upgrading this)

As far as damage mods are concerned, this brings me to 117% crushing blow, 30% deadly strike, 35% open wounds.

The "Last Wish" is brand new (just made last night! - replaced my Stormlash.) Now that I have that, I am thinking maybe the extra life tap on the Dracul's is redundant? Should I perhaps look for another pair of gloves to give me additional stats? I could also use a small boost to fire & lit resists, and there is only a little bit of room left for improvement on my charms, where resists are concerned anyhow. That said, here is the setup I am considering.

Considered setup:
Helm - Crown of Ages (I currently have a 1os on a toon I rarely play that I would be willing to strip. Shall I "Um" it to give me more charm flexibility? Other suggestions?)
Armor - "Enigma" dusk shroud
Gloves - Totally undecided! Steelrends? Laying of Hands? (These are quite underrated - a large % of monsters are demons and the fire res on them is fantastic.) Any other suggestions?
Boots - Gore Riders (upped)
Belt - Thundergod's Vigor
Weapon - "Last Wish" phase blade (67% CB, 370% ED)
Amulet - Mara's Kaleidoscope (23%)
Ring 1 - 6% ML / +19 str / 12% LR / 10% CR / +7 min / 26 AR
Ring 2 - Raven Frost (15 dex, 249 AR - really need to get around to upgrading this)

This would leave me with 92% crushing blow (with Rends) or 82% crushing blow with LoH (but with 350% ED to demons), 15% deadly strike, 10% open wounds. However, I would gain +1 all skills, 15% DR, +9 all res, 1os, and a good bit of defense from the helm. (FHR remains the same on both helms.) I could also gain either 37% ED and +6 str if I go with Rends or 350% damage to demons & FR if I went with LoH.

I guess my question is - do you think this would be a good tradeoff for the damage mods I currently have, or should I not bother? (I.E. do I have the "grass is greener" syndrome?) Do you have any insight into other solid options?

Phew, I've rambled. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading!

Have a great weekend, have fun in game.

Nice setup !!!

1. If you have 117% Crushing Blow, you could replace Gores with Shadow Dancer.
2. Draculs can still help, even with Last Wish . I don't think the % damage to demons adds to kicks, so no Laying of Hands - Steelrends maybe. Venom Grip, Hellmouth and Lavagout may be worth a look.
3. Fortitude armour is probably better than Enigma in PvM, unless you teleport a lot or need the strength.
4. If you keep the Gores, you could replace Guillaumes Helm - "Dream" is quite cool, or Andy's Visage.

Hi Mahric! Thanks!

I'd like to say that I wholly agree with your #3 however I am a stubborn butthead. ; ) You see, for my entire D2 career (since 1997 or so, very intermittently...) I played sorceresses predominantly. You can see where this is going. I am thoroughly addicted to teleport! I leveled her for 84 levels with a CoH, and finally broke down and switched to Enigma, and watched her resists suffer, and traded like a madwoman for charms, switched around other gear, etc., to make up for it. I am an admitted teleport addict. ^.^

Lavagout, that's an idea. The proc gives awfully nice AR. Also some FR which I need. But if I replace the Guillaume's with anything, I would probably go with CoA...it is such a solid option. I don't know...perhaps I could be talked out of it. Maybe I have just bought into the "glitz" of it. Hehe.

First of all, what shield are you using? Stormshield? Spirit? Personally I would go with Andys and LoH. The fire resistance from LoH offsets the penalty from andys and nets you +20fres, +2 skills, massive poison resist, a huge amount of str, +350%dmg to demons and 40%ias. The last mod is very important, ias help with both kicks and traps, remember traps are ias and not fcr dependant. Also, what aura is your main one? If its BoS you might be able to switch to fade with this setup without lossing any speed, this would max out your resistances. BTW, I'm also an enigma k/t sin, imho its the best armor for her if you choose to use fade.

Oh, I am sorry, forgot to mention the shield. I am using Stormshield, Um'd. And my main aura is indeed BoS, lacking the inherent IAS on gear to make the desiered BP at this time.

ED to Demons doesn't work with kicks - forget LoH on a k/t sin. I tend to go for crafted CB gloves - if you find a great pair with resists, that's even better. IAS is just icing.

Andy's is a nice helm, but not worth it imho. CoA + IAS jewel or Shako (IAS jewel) or a sexy circlet (IAS jewel) are all better options as far as I'm concerned. Frankly, you only need the IAS jewel if you decide to stick with Fade.

My personal setup would go something like this for the W/S combinations:

LW/SS (um'd)
CTA/Spirit
Helm: IAS Jewel (or resists if a BoS setup)

Burst of Speed vs Fade can go either way - you just have to build around it.

ilkori,

Great, thanks.

You see, my hesitation came from a guide I read which had recommended at least 100% CB for end-game. So from your experience, if I go with my proposed setup "B" and 87% CB (no LoH of course), that would be plenty?

I was only BoS out of necessity, but now that I have Last Wish it sure would be nice to be a Fade sin so that I don't have to keep reapplying BoS every time LW procs Fade. How much IAS would it require? That would have to be my deciding factor. I currently have none, but I can think of at least an easy 35% I could acquire from gloves and helm...

edit nevermind, I see the chart. Getting 63 IAS would probably be too tough for me, as I'm not willing to bend on the rest of the gear quite that much. Guess I will stick with BoS!

Nah, if I switch the helm at all, it would be for CoA. Else, I would keep what I've got. I also would prefer not to give up the lit absorb on Tgods. Thanks a ton for the input though, everyone! This has been very helpful. : )

From my experience, 50% is the minimum CB you can comfortably solo Hell with. In higher player counts, you need more, so the closer you get to 100%, the better. 100% isn't needed, but it's nice.

On setup B, if you change it to a pair of 20 IAS crafted Blood gloves (inherent Crushing Blow modifier), that'd up you in the 90s very nicely.

Your LW is a Phase Blade, so you need 50 IAS to reach 63 EIAS, the fastest speed. If you only use around 15 IAS, you'll hit the fastest follow-up speed (the most important breakpoint), and just a little more than that lets you hit the 8-frame slow kick. I should figure out exactly how much you'd need with a -30 weapon, but I don't really feel like it right now. Your 35% would do fine :p EIAS is a combination of base speed and IAS sources, and can't be compared directly.

One thing I forgot to mention, get your FHR up to at least 48; get 86 if you can, but it's a bit harder.

Some FCR on switch (CTA/Spirit or Spirit/Spirit) for teleporting would greatly help mobility. It would also boost your trap skills for extra damage.

And lastly, Deadly Strike only helps with Blade Fury (doesn't work with kicks).

Have fun, enjoy your new build.

I do have 42 FHR right now, and if I can trade for another GC w/FHR as a secondary mod, I will have 48. Thinking it through, 86 would indeed be tough.

Have CTA/Spirit on switch, so all set there.

Thanks for the tip on deadly strike!
