Imbue now or wait?

I just finished the quest for the horadric malus on normal. I got 3 unmagical items, my gloves, shoes and my belt that is the best unmagical you can get in act 1. So my question is, should I imbue one of these items now or should I wait and save it? I assume I will get mostly magical items later so I might just use it now since there won't be many unmagical pieces of equipment later.

What do you guys usually do? do you use it as soon as you get it or do you save it?

wait. i think most wait till lvl74 sh to start imbueing circlets as they can get great rolls then. think lvl74 but dont quote me....defo wait tho...

Diadems specifically can be imbued for best possible results at any level (well, any level high enough to actually have an imbue). Then they can be re-rolled with 6 pskulls in the cube until you get good mods.

Imbue now. It's almost impossible to get a good circlet later on ( it's like gambling ), whereas you can get a nice weapon to help you out untwinked.

It depends on how much leveling gear you have on your mules. If you just started with the game, use the imbue reward right now, otherwise save it up and use it on diadems. It's basically a free rare item, no more, no less.

I just thought of one thing. If you make an alt and have the alt do the quest up to and including the horadric malus quest, could you use ATMA or Gomule to send an item to your alt get it imbued and send it back? If so you could get a free Imbue for 1-2 houers of lvling on an alt.

I would imbue diadems when your character is high level. Seems like a waste to use it on stuff you won't potentially use or trade in the long term.

Diadem is just the highest level type of circlet. Because of its level and its magic level, all rare diadems can have a chance at all mods, including +2 skills. That means that an imbue from even the lowest level character can give it +2 skills, and that re-rolling it in the cube with skulls will never degrade its quality.

OK, that answers the question how new you are to the game and thus how many resources you have :).

Diadems only drop in high-level areas of hell mode, so waiting for one wouldn't be worth it for you. In that case I suggest to use it right now, on something which your character isn't that good at. I suggest gloves, boots or a belt.

You might still have bad luck and get a crappy result, so don't overestimate the value of that reward ;).

You are better off killing andariel or mephisto over and over if you want low-level items though. I see no reason to waste an imbue on low-level junk that you are just going to throw away anyway.

Wait until your character reaches high levels so you can farm white diadems

If you just play through the game once, I'd use the imbue right away. You may not even find a white diadem with single-pass gameplay. Might as well save it if you plan on trading and/or playing long-term though; while the chance of a good diadem roll is pretty small, it's still better than to roll low-lvl items ofc.

If a person plays games just to play them once, why would they play a game like diablo 2?

For the plot maybe? It was pretty cool the first time around. :yes: Or a nostalgia run before D3 comes out? I know I would've made one if I hadn't kept playing the game over the last few years.

Some people also like the challenge of single-pass untwinked gameplay, especially on HC. Here on the SP forum there are a lot of these type of players. It's not my cup of tea, but hey, different cups for different folks.

If the context was to only play once, I'm not really sure why the person would care enough to ask the question in the first place :/

In the extremely limited and unlikely situation that you're only going to play the game through once and then quit, obviously you should use your imbue right away, to fill whatever slot you don't have a good item in.

For everybody else, save it for a diadem. Whatever item you imbued would probably only last you 5-10 levels, and those 5-10 levels are so easy you can do them naked anyway.
