IAS on my frost zealer.

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out what breakpoint I will be hitting with my frost zealer gear.

Current:
shako
highlord's
smoke
black flail
20 IAS blood gloves (not much else on there)
spirit shield
gores
rare belt (24 fhr, 20 str, fire res, lit res)
ll rare ring with resists
15 @ ring

Harmony blade bow on switch.

Merc is Blessed Aim.
Griswold armor (nothing in sockets yet)
rare resists helm
strength weap.

Apart from the highlord's this is all selffound gear.

I am currently lvl 79 and trying to get the A2 amulet (ladder toon, but mostly solo'ed), since those cold immune vipers are being a pain in the behind ^^

In stash I have a shael'ed Stormlash so if and when I will be hitting 82 the Black flail will be replaced, leaving me with the following.

shaeled lash - 50 IAS
highlord's - 20 IAS
gloves - 20 IAS

According to a calculator this would leave me at a 5/9 zeal, 5/8 zeal would require another 20 IAS. However, 5/9 would already be reached without IAS on the gloves.

Is that correct? If so, would it be worth it to try and aim for the 5/8 or should I simply aim for other useful gloves whenever I can find them (drac's seem a viable option).

Cheerio!

Re: IAS on my frost zealer.

I have a guide on this paladin that I'll help you with:

Heavenly Congeal
Holy Freeze:
This is a nice aura to slow monsters while you get to attack them quickly. Zeal is probably most recommended for this since if you have a high enough IAS, you'll do a lot of damage. Another thought would be Vengeance.

Since it sounds like you're on a budget, let's start with something simple.

shako - Why the shako? Are you worried about life? Try these instead:

Vampire Gaze (Shael'd 20% FHR helps)
The Damage Reduced 15-20% is nice to have, the L/M steal is nice vs Monsters.
Rockstopper (Shael'd effectively making this 50% FHR)
Damage Reduced By 10%, 30% Faster Hit Recovery, plus the resistances make this a decent helmet for the poor.
Guillaume's Face (Shael'd 50% FHR)
+30% FHR, 15% Deadly Strike, 15% Chance of Crushing Blow, and +15 To Strength are decent mods!

highlord's - Good amulet to have.

smoke - Cheap R/W, but decent for normal, try these:

Shaftstop
If you're using a 20% DR Vampire Gaze you have maximum DR already. The +250 Defense Vs. Missile and +60 To Life are nice mods as well.
Duriel's Shell
Cannot be Frozen, +15 to Strength, Life mod, Defense (BOCL), and Resists all make this a very nice armor. If you use it with the Rockstopper you will already have nice resists put together.

black flail - Good for normal, but not much else, try these:

Zakarum's Hand (Shael'd giving this 50% IAS)
The Ignore Target's Defense is a nice mod for this weapon and since this weapon has decent IAS, it's one of the best Exceptional Scepters.
Coldsteel Eye (Shael'd giving this 40% IAS)
50% Deadly Strike, 20% IAS, Slows Target by 30%, and Hit Blinds Target is nice vs Monsters.
Butcher's Pupil (Shael'd giving this 50% IAS)
35% Deadly Strike, 25% Chance of Open Wounds, 30% IAS, and Indestructible are nice mods.
Griswold's Redemption (Shael'd giving this 60% IAS, the rest are up to you)
The -20% to Requirements are nice, as well as the damage, and +2 To Combat Skills if you have another Griswold set item.
Dangoon's Teaching (Shael'd 60% IAS)
The 40% IAS is decent, damage is fair as well.

20 IAS blood gloves (not much else on there)-

Bloodfist (Up'd, if you can)
+10% IAS helps some of your weapons reach 60% IAS, +30% FHR is really nice.
Laying of Hands, Sander's Taboo, Magnus' Skin
20% IAS gloves

spirit shield- Spirit is good for budget, but these are also good:

Herald Of Zakarum (Perfect Diamond or Um Rune Forge? )
20% Bonus To Attack Rating, +20 To Strength, +20 To Vitality, All Resistances +50, +2 To Paladin Skill Levels, +2 To Combat Skills.
Griswold's Honor (If you're lacking in the Resists department add 3 Perfect Diamonds or 3 Um's respectively)
+108 Defense and All Resistances +45 are decent.

gores- just like any melee character these are the best boots.

rare belt (24 fhr, 20 str, fire res, lit res)- decent belt

String of Ears
The damage reduction and life steal are worth mentioning.
Thundergod's Vigor
The +20 to STR and VIT and the Lightning Absorb are good mods to have.
Credendum
All Resistances +15, +10 To Dexterity, +10 To Strength

ll rare ring with resists- for rings:

Angelic Halo x2 and Angelic Wings
144-1188 Attack Rating (Based On Character Level) is a very nice mod, this is how you will be able to hit correctly
Raven Frost
If you happen upon it, switch one of your angelic halo rings for this, the attack rating, dexterity, and cannot be frozen are nice mods.

Fanaticism Zealot Mediocre
Yes it's a fanaticism, but read it as Holy Freeze.

shaeled lash - 50 IAS
highlord's - 20 IAS
gloves - 20 IAS

According to a calculator this would leave me at a 5/9 zeal, 5/8 zeal would require another 20 IAS. However, 5/9 would already be reached without IAS on the gloves.

Is that correct? If so, would it be worth it to try and aim for the 5/8 or should I simply aim for other useful gloves whenever I can find them (drac's seem a viable option).

Cheerio!

Fanaticism at level 20 gives 35% IAS, since you're using holy freeze you need to match that missing IAS with your gear.
Dangoon's Teaching (Shael'd 60% IAS)
Griswold's Redemption (Shael'd giving this 60% IAS)
Butcher's Pupil (Shael'd giving this 50% IAS)
Coldsteel Eye (Shael'd giving this 40% IAS)
Zakarum's Hand (Shael'd giving this 50% IAS)

With the aforementioned weapons, you will be sitting at whatever IAS they give you. You want to hit 60% IAS with your weapon, then with your gloves hit 20% IAS. Now it all depends on what type of weapon you will be using. It's pretty complicated since if you're on a budget, you could be using a weapon now and find a better later, making your setup useless. I will say that 80% will be enough for some weapons. Do you want to use axes, swords, scepters, or 2handers?

What are your goals for gear?
