i was hacked, i have a few questions about it

i was recently hacked, which sucks

anyway, i was wondering a few things

1) i'm pretty sure it happened cuz i had a version of maphack for like a week, i no longer have it

2) if i change my passwords, will that prevent it, or will i need a new cd key

3) would it be possible for me to get hacked without ever using maphack, just like a random hit and run thing?

4)i know the stuff didnt just disappear because i personally killed the final bosses for the torch, and also killed uber d for the anni

please help me, i just need to know if it can happen again and how i could prevent it

thanks

yeah, don't use maphack. Looks like you wisened up though.

I've gotten by 6 years just fine without it.

Provided whatever keylogger you inadvertantly installed is off the system, PW change should work just fine.

Be sure to scan your computer for keyloggers, trojans, and viruses.

3) would it be possible for me to get hacked without ever using maphack, just like a random hit and run thing?
This might be possible if your password was some simple easy-to-guess one but the majority of account losses are due to maphack.

1) Don't use maphack(s), at least not the new versions of 1.11 (and others are not any use, so...) cause they're just complete rubbish, and will just get you banned.

2) It seems that in this case you got a keylogger into your system, so pw changing means nothing at all really. :( Though inserting keys which cannot be typed into d2 normally can deflect keylogger as they won't show properly. For example ??? signs which you get by pressing alt + random numberpad-keys.

3) It's possible, yes, but not as likely. There are certain programs which just make thousands and thousands of guesses upon your passwords, and hence if you have some password like "stupidme" it will eventually guess it.

Sorry for you though. :(

Someone may have seen you have gotten godly items in the beginning of Laddder and such, and either told one of their friends or bruted your account theirself. I highly doubt it was a brute though, seeing as how no one releases them without a hefty charge, and the ones that are released are either keylogged/trojaned or simply send the password back to the owner of it. Anyway, lesson learned. Don't download third party programs.

A bruteforce program I wouldn't imagine would be too hard to program however the amount of time involved in trying to bruteforce a password would be ridiculous. Furthermore, if you attempt to guess a password on D2 too quickly if will temp ban your IP further increasing the time it would take to break the password.

Like you said, it's highly highly unlikely you've been bruteforced. Unless you haven't logged on for 2 months at all, you definately would have seen an insane amount of "# of failed logins" when you signed on. Bruteforcing would require well over a few thousand tries to figure out your password.

As everyone else has said though, scan your computer for virii/trojans otherwise changing your password will just get your account stolen again. To prevent further hacks, choose a fairly long password that doesn't use real words (anything you'd fine in the dictionary), include numbers, and if you can throw in a couple spaces in there.

Snowy would have had a field day with this. =P

But yeah, at least run it through a scan with Microsoft's Spyrware beta. It's free, and removes stuff TrendMicro's house call can't.

@Omi

You're a real man's man. Gotta' respect the power of the format.

Yeah, Brutes aren't hard to program at all. All you need is a good supply of working b.net proxies and a password list.

i dont know why so many ppl cheat, cuz even they dont belive in God (to go in hell for .. a game is really stupid), even a retard can see this universe dont accept bad things.

i dont start a new post and i ask here about a problem. My guestion is if some1 use a hero editor (working only in single player, sure, or open batlenet) to test some chars skills, his game is messed up in main blizzard server (no Open bnet) and he can be banned? I dont think so, but i want to be sure, cuz some .ini files or things can be wrong..

Btw i saw in open bnet, u cant join some games, prolly because to many cheats? Strange how open bnet server dont crash because so many cheats...

I think we cant insert images in posts, right? then check this link, with a pic from open bnet (tell me if the link work pls)

I think the lack of being able to join Open B.Net games comes from a specific non-discussable program being used to make a 1.10 character, then bringing it into 1.11 Open and not being able to join games. And the link works. But whoever made that ring so overpowered it. I messed around a bit and made a run one that isn't too overpowered, as in the - resists and +skill damage. ;) But I don't use that program anymore(it was just a test), so no flaming please.

Joining Open bnet games is dependant on you being able to connect to the host I believe. On Open, you are actually connecting your computer to the host's computer and if they have a firewall that is blocking you or a router that isn't set up properly that will prevent you from joining their game. I have had no problems thus far with using the chars I've built with my 1.10 character editor on Open or TCP/IP to test with members of this forum.
