HybridZon build?

HybridZon build?

What is the best sc ladder PVM hybridzon build out there?

20 strafe, 20 LF, 2x synergies require 80 skill points, rest in passives or third synergy and prerequisites? I don't have a WF but I probably want 134 Str just in case I find one in the future(or post S2). I generally like having 300+ Dex, rest in life, no energy.

Jav gear is Up'd Eth Titan's, SS or 4x light facet Monarch

Ladder bow choices are Up'd Witchwild String (what to socket, 2x Shael?) or a Goldstrike Arch Hydra, which I may either Shael or if I find a cool ias +other mod jewel maybe. I am unsure of the strafe ias requirements to reach a good BP for either bow.

Other gear currently includes a 15 ias soc Wirefleece Twitchroe, Shako, Perf Stealskull or Griffons Eye, LoH or Lavagouts, GoreRiders, Razortail or Nosferatu's Coil, Ravenfrost, Carrion Wind & Metalgrid or Angelic Wings & Halo(looking for Highlords or Cat's Eye

Anni, 2x passive gc, 2x Bow gc, 2x Jav gc, 5% res all charms

Usually for hybrids people go LF & Guided. That way they could use LF for groups and Guided for bosses.

If you really wanted to use LF & Strafe you could... I'd just recommend a slow bow / xbow... that way you won't need to worry about the 4 frame next delay on strafe arrows.

Lastly... plague jav & strafe looks like fun.

I disagree with the above poster....I think that strafe/lf/valk, strafe/lf/chS or FA/lf/chS are the most effective hybirds....If I were you I would use the griffon eye and java/passive charms for a duelist not pvm or not hybrid pvm, would be more effective to max light damage with that equip.....I prefer FA/lf/chS with some multi to the other hybirds i listed but thats personal preference.

you play on USWest???

I concur with mgill1772: LF/FA/ChS and rest in valk is my preference. Cheap and can solo. I don't know that there is a forum "Standard," nor should there be, because I'll bet LF + some bow skill could be made to work. Do what seems to fit your style/budget. LF/FA/Valk is cheap, if slow; LF/Strafe would seem to require a better bow than I can ever seem to find.

Oh, and the best skill to go with LF isn't a synergy, its Pierce.

My build

20 CS,
20 LS
20 LF
5 LB
1pt guided, strafe, multi
17 valk with skills
the rest of the points are in various useful passives

I use a might merc with reaper and jah wf on switch. ITD helps a lot with hybrids because you dex and penetrate are going to m lower than a bowzon. She kills very effectively and use the lightning skills most of the time, but can kill very fast with bow switch in areas with lots of lightning immunes. My strafe is only 3 frames, but it still works quite well.

CS kills bosses very fast, LS kills spread out enemies very fast, LF kills packs very fast, guided arrow allows you to kill dangerous enemies from around corners and behind cover, strafe and multi kill LI enemies fast. My build came out very solid and I wouldn't change a thing about it. You could build a hybrid with more bow focus, but lightning skills would suffer a lot. Bow skills work fine with only the +skills from gear and I use LS as my main killer. LF works fine without synnergies, but mana consumption in hell is a serious issue for sustained uses. My build has an extra 45% LF dmg and uses a high dmg LS (low mana cost) most of the time.

Gear:

-Andy Helm (IAS)
-Highlords
-Enigma
-Storm
-Titans
-Jah WF
-dual leech ring and raven
-tgods
-LOH (+2 jav / 20% IAS would be great if you had them)
-Aldurs boots
-anni and gheeds

strafe/LF = greatest hybrid imo :D

Shanksie, with your hybrid where did you put your stat points? Was your lightning damage powerful enough in hell, and did your bow skills pick up the slack?

I am glad someone is telling me this is possible. While you are at it, what does your hybrid gear look like?

Strafe works fine with 1 point though with a few +skill... What are you going to do with your extra points? I say stick em in ChS! You'd be amazed how fast you can drop bosses with tens of thousands of lightning dmg! I like my build better, but to each their own...

@sk8brdnick - imo the build you mention is far too biased on the L tree, which really needs no help to be effective, 20 LF is all you need. Also adding ChS means that the char is going to enter into melee range and this increases the importance of pdr and having good resists. I prefer to keep all my zon's as ranged chars, and so i can get by with no pdr, and very crappy resists.

@cracked sash - i made a thread on here about her as i wubbed her so much, if you search for the phrase "dexabrid" you will find it. It's a lot more balanced than the hybrid containing ChS, both your physical bow skill - strafe - and your elemental javelin skill - LF - are equally powerful and in most situations you can easily use whichever skill u feel like. To save you hunting it down here's a cut and paste which should help answer some of your questions:

"So onto some details:

Stats:
Str = base (if possible, otherwise as low as you can manage <-= it ended up being 49 str base - but i didn't bother use an enigma).
Dex = all
Vita = base <-= ofc this isn't vital, i just fancied it and i have never regretted it :D
Energy = base

Skills:
20 LF
20 Strafe
20 Penetrate*
17 Valk**
1 into each pre req and 1 into the rest of the passives.

*base penetrate is a possibility but I am too lazy to bother swapping out a Demon Limb every time I start a new game.
** I usually max Valk and decided to try her at slvl 17 for a change – more can be added here as desired. <-= which is what i did do

Equipment:

As this is not meant to be a guide I will simply list what to wear and why, and I may offer the occasional alternative. Feel free to wear what u want tho!

UWWS “ShaelShael†= DS *clvl, 40 res, Amp damage and 40IAS when sheal’d.
Shako “IAS†= I don’t want a low life base vita zon and +2 skills, 10 PDR, MF, and mana are always good.
Skullders “IAS†= She doesn’t have massive amounts of mf and this armour gives me about 1/3 of her total. Yes I know an Enigma here would solve the str issue, but I will never own an enigma as it’s over-rated pvp tosh, and yes I can easily afford one. Besides I need something I can put an IAS jewel in. <-= rofl, i sound like a complete arse, especially as i now own 4 :D (tho the IAS jewel bit remains true - and so she has kept the skullders)
Razortail = 15 dex and 33% pierce.
Laying of Hands = 20 IAS + huge boost vs demons.
Cat’s Eye = +25 dex +20 IAS
Ravenfrost = 20 dex, good AR, Damage and CBF.
Dual Leech ring = The only “hard†item to get as ideally you want dual leech + str. <-= i managed to trade for a very sexy 6/6 dual leech +16 str.
WT’s = +str +vita and + damage.
Titans = Obvious choice really.
Splendor = +skill, mf, +mana.
Anni = 20 stats where possible, but the higher the better. Not too vital if you go the Enigma route (shame on you).

Merc:
Gaze/Tals Mask/CoT
Shaftstop/Duriels/Lionheart/Duress
Reapers Toll

With this setup she can easily solo anywhere in the game because she has:
Speed: 110 IAS and 8/2 strafe
Versatility: 3 types of damage, Lightning, Physical and Magical plus Amp + Decrep to help remove PI.
Damage: 1-1000 LF for crowds, 700- 1100 strafe with ~90% of double damage, lvl 20 MA from UWWS.
Block: Due to massive dex she will have max block with any shield in LF mode.

Con’s
Have to wait until a high level to be able to wear full gear, either for Enigma or Anni, but levelling up is fairly easy, once you get to lvl 25 put on a Mahim-Oak for +10 str and a Twitchthroe then you can wear most items. <-= ofc if you don't try base str, then this is a moot point.

Ok my character:

“Jwhordan†lvl 79 Strafe/LF hybrid

Gear:
Shako “IASâ€
Skullders “IASâ€
Razortail
WT’s
Laying of Hands
Ravenfrost 20/238
Rare Ring: 6LL 7ML +16 str
Rare Amulet: +2 Amazon +max +min +dex – gives slightly less max but much more min than a Cat’s Eye, and the 9/2 strafe (86 IAS bp) is fast enough for me
Anni: 20/17/8

Skills (IN GEAR Javelin / Bow)

D/A/E = 10 / 7
Valk = 17 / 14
Pierce = 71%+33% / 63%+33%
Penetrate = 29 / 26
Crit Strike = NA / 49%
LF = 31 / NA
Strafe = NA / 26
7 Spare skill points already at clvl 79

Stats (Javelin / Bow / Base)

Str = 117 / 97 / 49
Dex = 481 / 461 / 401
Vita = 52 / 52 / 20
Energy = 47 / 37 / 15
Life = 709 / 709
Mana 338 / 323

I’ll say it again, she rocks and has done since lvl 42 (titans), I spend equal time in bow/jav mode depending on my mood, anyone with some Counterstike experience will understand, it’s like having an M4 instead of a pistol – both sides are just as deadly. LF a pack, waste most of them and mow the rest down with strafe or vice versa – Strafe a pack then when they have bunched about your minions toss a LF in to finish the job.

This isn’t as long as I planned it to be, but the general idea is there, and I’ll end by repeating that I don’t for one minute claim this is original, but it’s bloody effective and excellent fun."

Covers the skills & gear, if you want to read the discussion just search the thread out.

I'll boot up D2 and post her current stats as she is now 10 levels higher.

Ok, for those that care :D here are her upto date stats

Gear:
Same but she now has Eth Upp'd Titans 170/7 (i am on NL & i am not paying more for a better pair).

Skills:
Added 1 point to Jab (usefull for Baal) maxxed Valk and i still have a few spare.

Stats (J&S / Bow / Base):
Str = 117 / 97 / 49
Dex = 534 / 514 / 451
Vita = 52 / 52 / 20
Energy = 47 / 37 / 15
Life = 734
Mana = 368 / 353

Hell resists (J&S / Bow):
F = 8 / 48
C = -42 / -2
L = -23 / 17
P = -53 / -13

Damage (normal // with might):
Strafe = 641-1093 // 819-1392 with 11.5k AR.
Jab = 827-1718 // 1184-2453 with 16k AR.
LF = 1-1232 Lightning with 884-1880 // 1281-2718 Physical damage.

I use no elemental damage charms, the strafe/jab is all physical damage bar the +cold from the Ravenfrost. I also don't have any AR boost, ie Demon Limb or Lava Gouts.

The strafe damage may look puny compared to that of a char using a "higher damage" bow. But if you factor in Deadly + Critical + ctc Amp + ctc Decrep then the real figures are much higher.

Nice girl :)

I'd think she'd have some trouble versus single opponents as both Strafe and especially LF are more group oriented. I know Strafe can be used versus single monsters, but I've always found end of act bosses a chore for my Strafeazon - they'll waste my minions quite quickly and then the low resists, low life and no block of the bowazon is a pain. Plus Strafe is not really ideal boss killing skill, so it takes a loong time. Of course, you could just do those in groups and be happy - but I do have a fetish for builds that can solo everywhere and do big games both :)

So do you have a strategy versus big bosses, or are you satisfied doing those in a party?

Edit: Well, I can see you're doing those with jab, and presumably some CB equipment. Very doable (though the equipment switching does detract some from the elegance :p), but then you'll be in melee mode anyway - avoiding which was your main reason to not want ChS?

By "big bosses" i assume you mean Act bosses, as any other unique monster dies very quickly.

Realitically with a zon you are probably not going to run Andy / Mephi or Duriel (if you do, then i am sorry i can't help as i don't and never have).
So that leaves Diablo and Baal:

Baal is a cake walk, Decrep + Jab/Strafe easily kill him. Pop off a strafe of a LF if those tentacle thingies get in the way for easy leeching. Maybe ChS is faster, but this is still a very easy fight for her. Remember we have max block when jabbing, and are at a safe distance when strafing

Diablo can be a pain in the bum, but he is still simple 8/10 times. The cut & paste from the strafer thread:

"Now after my rant, here is my method of killing Diablo:

Keep the merc dead until u face the last set of seal guardians (i save the crappy ghost L immune things that are by the 2 seals in the North West / Top of the CS).
1. Hit the seal, and kill as normal, the mercs might aura should trigger.
2. Run like fook to the centre of the pentagram where D spawns and cast a decoy right where D spawns.
3. Try and time it so you cast a Valk directly on D as soon as he spawns (i have maxxed Valk so she stays alive quite well)
4. Then run close to D so the Merc starts tanking.
5. Once the merc & valk are tanking retreat and try and get so you are shooting D's back as he tanks your minions.
6. Recast Valk if needed before she dies, keep the merc alive with pots, if u can be bothered recast decoy too. If timed right you will take no damage from Diablo whatsoever as your minions take all his attacks - the pink blast will not harm either minion if they are close enough. Throughout the fight Diablo will be either Amp'd or Decrep'd depending on you and your merc's setup and will die pretty quickly - ie under a minute.

Sometimes it's a poo as he wipes out your merc before he can get safely close, but if u do a TP somewhere close, u can just pop thru and spend 50k to get him back.

On average it goes smoothly for me maybe 75% of the time, but even when it goes tits up it's only your minions dying and not you."

Lastly for the WSK - i wimp out and swap some gear/charms - in come a CoH and a Wisp, aswell as some 5 res all sc's. But she can solo anywhere in the game, and i'll happily prove it if you are EUNL.

And after seeing your edit:

i only Jab Baal as he has no elemental attacks that hurt me, everything else gets strafed/LF'd and there is no gear swaps for CB etc, just for the WSK - but then there are much better chars to run the WSK with in the first place - i know i don't bother.
For all other monsters/bosses/champions/uniques i Strafe/LF accordingly, and when i am left with the last target the Strafe/LF + merc + valk + amp/decrep combo makes them very dead very quickly.

Thanks for clarifying - I'm sure she can solo anywhere, as you say, and I can see how she's a solid build.

If someone is wondering whether to follow Shanksie's Strafe/LF or take the advice of some of the others and go LF/ChS/FA, it depends on your preference, of course, but also on your wealth. If you're rich (or just have a nice selection of items), follow your taste buds. If you're not so rich, or even untwinked, LF/ChS/FA is the build for you. As always - equipment for the rich, skills for the poor.

hmmm I think the FA/LF/ChS is better for the rich blooded folks, but again I will emphasize personal preference. Either of these hybrid build can/will excel if played/equipped correctly. I do a lot of carrying others thru the game, some call it rushing, I prefer to call it I'll scratch your back, and I'll take what drops. I play in a lot of large games and I like to be able to run into the fray and grab up the goodies, so I tend to aim at a sturdier zon as opposed to a caster. Additionally, I just dont see jab and strafe quickly taking down D and B, w/o all your buddies getting smoked, especially w/o CB gear. I like to be able to desimate Baals relatives with ease so i pick the ChS route.....in fact I use about 50 points in the lightning tree.

I play thru the game alot and I like to be able to kill every monster and the cool thing about hybrid zons is that its very possible to do this, with either of the hybrid variants.

Hey props to me I just assembled an enigma on this ladder, so now im sporting some new fresh clothes and have nearly created a better zon than my first ladder one (PVM-wise), if I could only find some more cool charms.....

Now if only I could get myself an ohm rune, my duelist charged striker would be in effect again.....ohms for the poor, ohms for the poor anyone....?

I rock it like this:
shako ias
wf ed/ias
eth up titan
highlord
wt
razortail
Loh
raven
dual leecher ring
ss, um
enigma, was up skullder all res'd
anni

so really its nearly identical, I just use 90 ias with windy cuz I use FA multi more then strafe......I usually only use strafe in a corridor when I want KB. UM ss and ed/ias wf (only a 24/15 that I got a lucky find on) are kinda overboard but I really only play one monster zon and one duel zon anymore......but with this setup baal and D are easy 10/10 times, actually thats a lie cuz baal can still be annoying if he mana burns you over and over and over and over and over....but I just bring in like 4 blues and he a sucka fried turkey.

I play on USWestLadder if any of yalls have light facets your willing to trade.

Thanks for your input all. I am going to try a strafe/lf zon, though I am going to add more str because this zon is all about versatility.
