How to get over 100k defense.

I remeber that Garbad the Weak posted that a pally with exile could get over 100k defense. Can anyone tell me how? I think it would be nice to have a 100k defense pally that would dominate most melee characters.

Also a question that's not related to the subject if if I have a hoto with 25 oak sage charges. If I use all the charges then repair the weapon would I have 25 more oak sage charges?
 
with 100k defense you're probably going to have crummy everything. no life, dmg, fhr, fcr, dr, ias, etc etc. You could probably just sit there with people trying to hit you, thats about it.

yes, if it says 0/25, and you repair it, you'll get 25/25 again.
 
Ok I will try to calculate the highest I can get:

Paladin level 99 when doing 3 times the act 3 quest “Lam Esen's Tome†(the book from the temple) will have 98 x 5 + 3 x 5 = 505 skill points to spend. His gear:

Armor: Stone runeword with +290% Enhanced Defense using a perfect Eth Sacred armor with a base defense 900: 900 x 3.9 = 3510. Strenght req 232

Helm: Eth (x 1.5 times) Godly (+200%) Corona (165 defense) socketed at Lazruk’s with a 2 socket with Pul’s (2 x +30%); 1.5 x 165 x (%200 + 2 x 30%) = 247 x 3.6 = 889

aww that would be nice :p and you could still have pretty high defence removing some pieces to get some damage aso. ^^

That char would be hard to hit :p in a lvl 99 vs lvl 99 duel where the enemy had 100k of defence you would need:
95% chance to hit > or = 1900000 Ar
75% chance to hit = 300000 Ar
66,67% chance to hit = 200000 Ar
50% chance to hit = 100000 Ar
33,33% chance to hit = 50000 Ar
25% chance to hit = 33334 Ar
5% chance to hit < or = 5263 Ar

With 75% block and 50k Ar you would only be hitting this pala once in every twelve attack or to say 1 time pr. ww for a two weapon using barb with highest fpa :p
 
Prebuf Holy Shield? Use Defiance of your own with defensive skillers - have a nice Prayer+Salvation ready against other chars than melee, and use a beast weapon for smite, or maybe Grief Phase?
 
The good thing about the paladin is his flexibility :p You could get a lot higher than the example with prebuffing and so on, it is just that, if an attacker with 50k of AR only hits in 1 out of 12 then you already have plenty.

You shouldn't max salvation due to dimishing returns, but yes it is a good idea with aura providing items (Beast, Exile), so you'll have fana and defiance, then you could go in bear mode, drop the dex, go for max block with lots of vita aso. Using a lvl 5 oak from natures peace with lots of prebuffing + skills and stacking res could make you very hard to kill :p though you won't provide much damage I think :(

No it wouldn’t, because spire helm has max base armor class 159

Ok let's tweak this pal a bit more. Prebufing holy shield level 46 (+2 helm; +3 amulet; +2 armor; +2 ring; +4 Astreon's; +2 shield; +1 belt; +10 charms) = +700%, with Barb’s battle command it will be +715%

How about playing in a party with a pal with a higher defiance aura level 45 (+2 helm; +3 amulet; +2 armor; +2 ring; +3 Hoto; +2 shield; +1 belt; +10 charms) = 510%, with Barb’s battle command it will be +520%

Battle commanding first than shouting will raise shout bit more: +510%

Total Defense Rating = 8353 x [1 + 715 / 100 (holy shield) + 300 / 100 (synergy) + 520 / 100 (defiance) + 200 / 100 (weapon) + 100 / 100 (shrine) + 510 / 100 (shout)]

What is the most defense that can be expected of a decent all-around paladin though?

CoA- Ber Ber (380)

= +26+20

Level 46 Holy Shield (with lvl 20 defiance synergy) is a 1000% Defense Bonus.
Now couple that with the 6080 base defense and then factor in the lvl 16 Defiance on the Exile.

What could a standard fighting Paladin realistically hope to achieve in the way of defense?

Off course nothing, the real point off all this stuff is to show how high you can get. Nobody seriously would create such a character except for those enthusiastic who are bored and got all those duped runes and now they don’t know what to do.

uuff ... forgot to put the mighty Ani in to my inventor instead of one SC... and that HoZ gives +4 when prebufing ... naaahhh
 
I think the best palas have about 40k of defence at level 86 or something like that. So versus a level 86 barb the barb would need 40 Ar to hit 1 pr. 2 attack.

Most palas don't wear eth stone I think since it'll break, and enigma is more or less a must unless you've some kind of godly amulet.
 
Wonder were Tor's guide to a defiant smiter went? it was really good, one of the most defensive char's ive ever seen.
tor cant you rewrite/repost it? :).
cause i think that char get's the nr.2 spot in defence :D
