Hot Key question from a lazy player

Ok, I suck at looking things up myself....how do I set up hot keys for other skills? For instance, lets say I don't want to have to click on the skills thing to change from BO to WW, or Raise skelli to revive? I am sure I can somehow, but just not into reading about how to do it, as I am not big on reading about synergies, etc.

Well this is all using default keys. First press S to brins up your skill buttons overlay screen, then hover your mouse over a skill you want to assign a hotkey to, you should see the skill discription with dmg, etc. While hovering over press F1 through F8 to assign that key to that skill. You can assign other letter keys as well but I've never used those before. Hope it's clear enough.

Thank you....clear enough...check your PM's and the trade thread.

To assign other keys as hotkeys: hit escape, options, configure controls. Then scroll down to where it lists skill 1, skill 2, etc. Click on the skill 1 and hit the key you want to associate with it. Go back into the game and hit s to bring up the skill overlays. You can now assign the key you set up to a skill. You can reassign all of your hotkeys to something other than the "f" keys. Personally, i use 1,2,3,4,q,w,e,r,t,a,s,d,f,g,h, and y. My belt slots are assigned to z,x,c,v. I use b to open my inventory.

Mine are
Belt: QWER
Skills 1-8: ASDF ZXCV
Quest: H
Inventory: I
Character: N
Message: M
Makes for very little movement, and I've never had a character with more than five skills, so just eight keys is plenty.
Also, I'm lucky. My mouse has four buttons, so I can set one to ALT, and the other to CTRL, never have to accidently hit that Windows Key ^^

:P You should try playing an MA assassin, you'll use every hotkey you can get your fingers on.

Being left-handed I use numpad 7,4,1,2,3 and delete, end, pagedown for right-click skills, numpad /,*,- for left-click skills, numpad 5 to 'stand still', numpad 6 to toggle map, numpad 8 to highlight drops, numpad 9 for Townportal, numpad 0 for character screen, numpad del for inventory and numpad + for weapon-switch.

zarhrezz... wow, that is so confusing, if i tried to play with them like that id get wrecked so badly

This still amazes me. :p Wow. Massive props for this one (again.) :)

edit: by massive props, i mean that there's no way in hell my hands could do that ever.

It's really not that hard =)
Delete/End/PageDown are always prebuffs/minions, 7 generally too. 4/1/2 are the often used skills, 3 a backup skill/less used skill (and for some characters I change it to toggle run/walk...blocking issue). I almost never switch left-click skills, so /,*,- are there but rarely used. Otherwise you have everything you need for almost all playing situations there without having to move your hand.

Am I the only person round here who uses 1/2/3/4 for belt items, and F1-8 (well, F1-12 - I never use the map controls so I changed them to extra skill buttons) for skills?

I used to use 1-4 for belts and F1-F12 for my skills. But at rare times 12 keys weren't enough - and when I needed to switch quickly (ie tp to get out of dangerous situations), I was usually dead before I managed to switch... Doh!

So now I set it to 1-4 for belt
ASDF,YXCVB right hand skills (with A being primary attack and Y teleport)
QWER left hand skills
G Townportal

^weaponswitch
J questbook
K character screen

No don't worry, you're not the only person. These's two of us. I can never be bothered changing the hotkey setup. Besides, I mostly play characters with fewer hotkeys so the only hotkeys I constantly use are F1 - F5, and the others are prebuff/minion skills.

Hmm.. I think I am weird:

belt 1-4
W weapon switch
Q quests
E show items
X inv
C char sheet

I map with standard F1 etc. but I rely on two keys for my entire skill switching:

A prev skill
D next skill

My left hand rests on the ASDW area and never moves. It's just a matter of getting accustomed to the skill progression on the function keys. For my meteorb, teleport is one previous to meteor and one right of FO. I can always telport quickly when using these 2 skills. FB lies between FO and Meteor for utility. Switching from Meteor to FO or vice versal is always 2 steps away, regardless of previous/next.
F1 Teleport
F2 Meteor
F3 Fireball
F4 FO
Thats a simple example. I have decent sized setups for my 'sins, weredruids and barbs.
As you can imagine, my necro has about 8-10 skills and I zip through them all using only A/D prev/next cycling. :cheesy: Call me a kook.
The only time I diverge from this method is with paladins, since I need maintain an aura while switching left-click skills.

I have only one char with whom I use hotkeys (besides the default hotkeys). And there are only two of them. Z for AMP & X for CE. I'm so lazy

Jeez... I have enough trouble switching Meteor on F1 to F3, or switching Fireball from Right-click to Left-click. Having to adjust to an entirely new key setup? *mind reels*

I do that too...why whould i change the skill keys if they work for me?

I always use the F1-8 keys and the mouse scroll to switch between them I end up only really hovering over the 1,2,3,4 keys and the spacebar(which I set as the show items on the ground bar. occassionally I have to hit the i, q, t, c buttons to bring up the different pages but since I am lazy as far as setting up the options I never took the time to change them to more closely aligned keystrokes.

Also in case you didn't know if you press the scroll wheel on your mouse it works as the tab button in game. If it were not for needing the 1,2,3,4 (pots)I would be able to play from anywhere using a cordless mouse.
