Help with assassin

I am in search of a character that I can solo run Baal with and also do some MPing with. I am at the moment bored with pure caster and pure melee so I thought a Kicktrapper would be nice.

But I am a bit uncertain about skill placements and equipment. I have looked at the assassin forum and gotten som ideas of builds, but those guides I have looked at dont have that good equipsections for a medium-wealth SPer.

I was thinking of doing LS and DS on all things not lightning immune, but still be upfront "tanking" and stealing back some mana for more traps. Also, I know kicking is a better boss-killer than full-blown traps, right?

1. As for equipment, how much crushing blow should I aim for when kicking, is upped goblin toes+guillaimes enough? Or should I look for a high CB weapon if I go weapon/shield?
1a: Weapon/Shield or c/c? I do not have a Stormshield yet so maybe a 50%claw block would be better. Was thinking bartucs/jade talon. Plus with c/c I can block even when wielding two +3 traps claws. On the other hand if I find a Stormshield I get like 85% DR against physical attackers and more crushing blow for my kicks. Or maybe a Crescent Moon if AR will be an issue.
2: As for skills, is 18/24 in Talon enough when it comes to AR? As I was planning to do a "pure trapper" but with Talon instead of Fireblast, I would rather not spend copious amounts in the martial tree at the loss of trap damage.

There are probably more questions, but those are the most important ones. I am currently at level 23 with the help of my Ravenclaw, but would like to spend a bit more skills soon :)

Thanks for any replies!

Re: Help with assassin

1. Before answering quesions about gear, I'd like to know if you want to stack MF or not.

2. I normally go for level 18 after +skills. DTalon has an enormous AR% bonus, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Help with assassin

my k/tsin has the followign skills

20 ls 20 ds 20 CBS 18 DT rest pumping traps but i matted her at lvl 79 and not really playing her now;P she's 82 now. make sure to get points into fade for safety too if your char is lacking in resists.

gear is

helm: gskull
ammy: +skills /res rare
weapon: throughout her life she's used lawbringer PB, crescent moon PB, now using stormlash
shield: spirit mon / stormshield cast traps using spirit on switch fight using SS
armor: duress boneweave (lol boneweave but i didnt have any archon plates:P and i hate the look of dusk shrouds/ scarab husks on sins)
gloves: Laying of hands
rings: dual leech rare w/ ravenfrost
belt: nosferatu's coil or string of ears i think
boots: upped goreriders :D

its a really fun build, one of my favourites :)

also about getting CB, i think getting around 50% is enough already. e.g on my fury druid he just uses ribcracker for the 50% CB and it comes out all the time.

i never tried c/c kicksins i really like the benefits of different weapons (e.g crescent moon static field,ITD. and lawbringer's sanctuary with decrip<<< really amazing boss killer) with shield more :\ perhaps u can use c/c to lay traps and switch back to w/s to fight.

Re: Help with assassin

Thanks for all the replies!

@stephan: MF is not a requirement for me.

@Alffla: Thanks for that! I guess 50-60 cb should be enough as I will be kicking at such fast speeds. Comparing your inventory to what I had in mind it comes out rather much the same, except for my lack of Stormlash- and shield. Also you build looks like what I had in mind, enought talon, one pointers and the rest to traps. Sweet :)

@Maxicek: Thanks for that link! Apparantly I neeeed DR% and as shaftstop feels a bit outdated I need a stormshield as I can't loose the CB on Guillames imo. So W/S is ideal... I guess I need to hit meph alot before reaching level 76.

As for my equipment I had something like this in mind:

Helm: Guillaime's Face
Amulet: Mara's
Weaponset1: +3 trap claw//HotO(need a vex first)+Spirit Monarch
Weaponset2: Crushingblow weapon+Stormshield
Armor: Duress
Gloves: Dracul's
Rings: Ravenfrost+Manaleech
Belt: String/Thunder/Verdungos/Arachnid (oh boy...)
Boots: Upped Gore/Goblin (Don't know if I want to up my only pair of Gores when the only good kickerstat on them is the CB.)

Charms will help with res.

Question: Won't the 10% extra CB on Goblin Toe put them as the better boot as for physical damage goes?

Thanks again, and keep it coming :D

Re: Help with assassin

hmm well i actually don't know how much kick damage an elite version of goblin toes gives but so far most kicker guides i've read really recommend upped gores for the kick damage, as you want to get around 1k damage

Re: Help with assassin

Your gear looks fine.

Question: Won't the 10% extra CB on Goblin Toe put them as the better boot as for physical damage goes?
Not really. You have enough CB as it is, certainly if you still have to include CB from your weapon (Black?). Myrmidons do more raw damage than Mirrored boots on top of that.

I'd rather use rare Boneweave or Mirrored boots than double upped Goblin toes, unless the runes don't mean anything to you (and even then).

Re: Help with assassin

Okay, so Goreriders it is. With Gores, Guilliames and Duress I end up at 65% CB. Enough to make me look at some alternative weapon's. I looked through the 1.10 runewords and found Voice of Reason:

15% Chance To Cast Level 13 Frozen Orb On Striking
18% Chance To Cast Level 20 Ice Blast On Striking
Adds 100-220 Cold Damage
-24% To Enemy Cold Resistance
+10 To Dexterity
Cannot Be Frozen

With Duress I get an average of 245 cold damage plus a good chance of frozen orb and -cold resistance. The CBF and dex is a bonus. The question on this weapon is whether the Ice Blast ruins everything? Any other non-obvious weaponchoices I should have a look at?

Re: Help with assassin

might cause a lot of monsters to shatter into ice thoguh, so not so much death sentry ammo :l looks damn cool though :D give it a try :) i've always wanted to make a VoR kicker haha

Re: Help with assassin

Apparantly I neeeed DR%
I'm afraid I have to disagree. You can make a fine kicker/trapper without damage reduction. My current character only has the 10% from Harlequin Crest and is still very safe to play.

So W/S is ideal
I don't know about 'ideal', but I can assure you a shield isn't necessary. And dual claw is not the only alternative either: using a 2-handed weapon gives some interesting possibilities. (I'll leave the details for when I write my Mat thread, not to spoil the fun ;))

Question: Won't the 10% extra CB on Goblin Toe (...)
Nitpick: Goblin Toe has 25% CB. It's a pity that it has no other useful mods, therefore I would think twice before double-upping it. Upped Goreriders on the other hand are arguably the best choice for a kicker.

Re: Help with assassin

@Kyrandia: Thanks for your insight. I'll have a triple look on weapon choices, still in normal and don't have to make those descission(sp?) until act 5. I am looking forward to your thread, coming up soon?
With the 10% extra I meant that they have 10% more CB than Goreriders. Also to me it looks like the small additional amount of damage is the only thing Gores have over Goblin? Or is bleed a huge deal? Although to many have said Goreriders are better so I guess I am going with those :)

Re: Help with assassin

There are very few ways of improving kick damage, and heavier boots is one of them. My kicker used Marrowalk (str/dex/frw/lifetap) for a while before I got some Gores, and now she switches between them. She uses Marrowwalk with Trang-Oul's Claws for the +poison damage, and she still gets lifetap when she needs it. She uses upgraded Gores with Dracul's Grasp.

24 talon (after gear)
20 venom
~7 shadow master (~18 after gear)
20 Death Sentry
~10 Lightning Sentry.

Shako/Guillame's
HotO
switch: +3 shadow claws, one with +2 shadow master
skill/res ammy
Viper (um)
Stormshield
Drac's/Trang's
res/leech ring
ravenfrost
gore's/marrow
string of ears

Ah, ok. :) I misunderstood what you wrote.
So yes, it's the 10% extra CB of (2x upped) Goblin Toe against the higher kick damage + 30% FRW + Open Wounds of (upped) Gore Rider. I'm not 100% sure Gore Rider would give more damage in your current setup, but they will be useful on other melee builds too (as long as they have enough strength). Goblin Toe, not so much.
That's also something to consider if you are going to spend runes on upgrading.

I am looking forward to your thread, coming up soon?
I hope so. :D Unfortunately I won't have much time the coming weeks, so it may still be a while.
