Help on a Blue Bear

Yar!, that's what I'm looking for. I'm not sure what are the optimal options for a character who confined by some rather strict limitations.

So I bet some of you are scratching your paws thinking , what the hellena is a "Blue_Bear" . I confess!, I just made that up.

What I'm looking to do is make a bear druid because I feel that Bears and having shockwave is simply better then picking one of them skinny pups builds . This bear is only allowed to use Normal (white) and Blue (magics) items. This will be a hardcore character who will be required to solo it's way thru the entire game. All wp's must be collected and all quests completed. In Frodo style, there is to be one allowance made: At lvl 45 I will allow this character to use ravenfrost ring (cbf)(ooo shiny!).

What I'm not sure about is what build I shall use. I have already shopped a fool's kris of swiftness and 300%Cruel Great maul of quickness which recvd 2 sheal runes after quest socketing(80ias). I also have a 120% ias military pick I can steal from my bear sorc if going fireclaw. (6 shealed)

I was considering the Town dump build with less in lycanth, and more in summons stuff.

Fireclaw also looks pretty appealing adding large amounts of ar and fire damage. I'd include a few in maul for the phy damage and charge up.

If I went with the bear summoner, what's the general consensus on ravens? It would seem like having these would add a great deal of saftey with it's blind.

roughly thinking:
w/+3 skills

10 in lycanth
5-6 in shockwave
11 in Maul for an even 200% damage boost
1 hunger
2 in ravens for 5 total
2 in spirit wolves for 5 total
20 HOW
20 Dires
20 Grizz
1 in Carrion vine
1 in poison creeper

total of 99 skill points
Done around 85-87 (probably higher then I'll end up)

My tentative Fireclaw would look something like:
+3 skills

10-14 lycanth
20 fireclaw
1 hunger
3 shockwave
20 volcano
20 fissure
10 Firestorm
1 sage
2 raven
2 spirit wolves
1 carrion, 1 poison creeper (pre req)

What do you guys suggest?

Re: Help on a Blue Bear

The journey started last night.
I made it to character level 25 and just started A5. So far Ive played as a hunter druid with the exception of A2, where I was able to use the horadric staff until it was taken away from me by the Dury-monstah. Then it was back to my 3 socketed long bow with 1 flawless ruby, sapphire and emerald. The bear attack is pretty painful until the swiftness/quickness mod opens or character level 29.

I did decide to go summon bear afterall. Those dires are nice to have. I currently have a fury summon wolf, last season I did the hunter build so it's time to bust out the bear. Pre-req's not withstanding , Ive basically put all my points in dires and have a level 5 how. The only res that's maxed so far is lightning. I had one NDE running for Izzy, the plains had a bunch of Gloams in it.

Dury was hard, He required many tp's back to town for merc res and pots (mostly mana). As long as I kept feeding the merc red pots and popping the blues to recast those dires everything was ok.

Re: Help on a Blue Bear

The FireClaws option would have been the easiest. I've got one that I'm slowly leveling. Most of the weapons before 31 are kind of boring, so I just cast fissure and everything dies anways.

Anyhow, good luck!

Re: Help on a Blue Bear

I'm not so sure easiest for pure fireclaws with all of the immunes in hell, but a hybrid with summons would be great.

Re: Help on a Blue Bear

Sorry if this is a little off topic (doesn't require it's own thread), but would an infinity polearm be effective for a fire claws druid in PvP?

Re: Help on a Blue Bear

Build looks solid and weapon looks decent with good damage and speed. I'm not exactly certain of your rules for the build so I won't offer gear suggestions except to say, is there something you can add to boost your elemental damage? You will find that invaluable in Hell.
