Has the "Mouse" been trapped?

Well, I had been away from home last for the last 5 days when I decided to log on and get a few HC runs in. I joined a cattle.net game and instantly the talk was of the famous "Mousepad". Folks were saying that his website was no more and his email address was not working as well. So, I did a search for his websitre and sure enough, it's no more. Has blizzard finally got ahold of the "Mouse" by the tail? I was once a user of his MH untill I saw the light. It now appears that the "Mouse" has been eaten. Maybe this will 'help' keep the economy in check, well, at least for a little longer no?

What an interesting view, I always considered Mousepad to be more helpful to the game then not. Granted after around MH 4.9 or whatever when they added all the useless features I started to get annoyed with him, but the fact was, and still is, that his Maphack stopped numerous game bugs, and exploits from hardcore playes being PKEd or dropped or whatever.

That alone makes whatever he coded extra as irrelevant. I remember hearing respected members say that without MH they would never have been able to play HC.

Id be more interested in seeing that easymap creator get 'trapped' -- as for Mousepad hes probably moved on. Hell for all we know hes working for blizzard now.

I was wondering this myself, since I was gone for about a year and a half and when I left EVERYONE was using maphack ( well not everyone but, you know ).

I couldn't walk into a game without having someone say "nice gear" and then he'd list all the stuff I was wearing and tell me how much of a newbie I was because I did not have the top of the line uber-gear.

Now I don't think I've run into anyone using a maphack so far, and oh what a change

I guess the maphack by mousepad was not as "undetectable" as everyone thought. I hope plenty of those losers got banned.

Yes, helpful in some respect. Did it allow me and other to MF much easyer? Yes. did it allow me tyo aviod certain monsters in order to aviod a HC 'Deeds', yes. BUT, what it also did was make HC to easy. What was the point of playing HC if the main problem (Challenge) we have playing HC ws no longer an issue? Since my return, (July timeframe) I've gone without the MH and the game is harder, but, more satisfying. Oh well, I'm sure this issue to MH or nor MH will go on for ever. I just found it funny that so many folks were (are) freaking out becasue his website is no more.

In theory, MH is undetectable because it just makes use of what bnet sends to the game anyway, but the way people exploit its features is detectable, like always going the shortest way to the stairs/monster/nice stuff/whatever or using skills or namelocking over several screens because of scrolling (I'm not sure if that's a MH feature as well).

that is an ignorant statement, no one was banned for using mousepad's mh. it was easy map users that got banned.Mouse refused to put out a product that can't beat warden settings.

Ya maybe it is, but I see very few if any people using maphack now so... what happened then? Enlighten me.

No idea what warden settings are. Hope that doesn't make me a "noob"

I sense bitterness in your post. Banned also? I hope so.

Not everybody (mac users) can use or is willing to pay for maphack.

Maphack gives you an unfair advantage.

Maphack screws with the economy by allowing people to do run after run at greatly enhanced speeds. The work I put into finding something like Skullder's Ire is a lot less than what I should be getting for it in trade but since you MHers can just do 40 meph runs an hour it's worth the contents of a decent NM hell forge.

Maphack reduces the need for cooperative gameplay by revealing all monsters and objects on the map.

Maphack has features that detract from non MH users gameplay. "Hey n00b y0r g3ar is teh 5ux0r." or "OMGWTF plz giv d3thw3b i hav shael." is not something I want to deal with from kids who don't even know how to play the game properly in the first place. Not to mention all the MH variants with chikening mods on them.

Maphack is a cheat and an obnoxious one at that. Furthermore, anyone who uses it in hardcore is completely missing the point and deserves a bazooka banning both from these boards and BNet.

Do what you want in SP but by totally pussing out in multiplayer it lames down the experience for the rest of us as well.

But Blizzard can sue them for offering software meant to change their game code. If they demand a compensation of let's say 100,000€ for the damage done, the owner of the web page might get nervous.

If this was an approach used by them, wouldn't all the sites offer hacks, mods, etc be shut down?

There would be no pickit, loader, goodness knows what offered on websites?
(in 1.10 that is)

I don't know if the other hacks are for free, but MH is sold for money IIRC, so Blizzard might not like that at all. I'm not a lawyer, however, it's just my personal and highly unqualified feeling about it.

Ummmm this is software that basically is illegal as it's designed to work online so I think there are grounds to shut it down

It displays data your computer is sent in a different way.
If I sold fonts for Windows computers Microsoft couldn't sue me for making money off of their copyright.
It works offline too, and there's 0% chance of detectibility there.

It violates section 3.C.II. of the EULA (if I understand it correctly) but I don't see anything other than "don't do this stuff" and "we're not responsible" stuff in it though, no possible punishments.

Yeah he charges 15 Million gold so he can gamble from Gheed, or on his nicer days he may take an SOJ.

To me I think he quit the domain appears to be for sale. :buddies:

I was offered a new MH in a game last night. Don't know if the guy was offering me a "real" MH og some trojan crap. Either it doesn't matter cause I just said "MH is for n00bs!". :p

Normally I dont respond to these things anymore (debating with Apoc was much more fun) but I have to say this:

Making HC easier may have happened with Maphack. But I knew a lot of HC players who wouldn't even play public games for fear of the many many pkers out there who used various hacks/exploits to drop thier characters.

Oh, and FYI; In its original form, Maphack was undectable, it wasnt until Mousepad added the retarded features that it became easier and easier to detect.

The thing about teleporting right to doorways and stuff is also kind of a wierd statement, I teleport right to Durance 3 9 out of 10 times, but do I get banned for MHing?

At least Blizzard has shown the ability to crack down on morons now though, it amazes me how many people dont even know how to play -- and I am bombarded with "pleas" for the maphack I use everytime i teleport to baal (Why is being fast automatically assumed as you cheating?).

Mousepad's probably moved on to better things :P

Heh, those were the days.

I am still pondering whether I should use this thread as an excuse to start fuming about the evils of Maphack again, just for old times' sake. We used to have this "Oh no, not another maphack thread"-feeling every single day on these forums, but nowadays they are quite rare, in my opinion.

:wink2:
