Hammerdin attributes

Well, I'm working on making a Hammerdin now, first build was a smiter but I put too much in STR and DEX and got shorted on VIT so I kinda screwed myself. I want to make extra sure that I don't ruin my attributes this time around, and I'm seeing every guide say "STR and DEX should be... enough for your gear"

Well, I have AP Enigma which requires 103 STR... but I'm not totally sure how much I should have base with all my other items to make up for that... and I'm also not sure if I should be putting even that much into STR or will it ruin my build?

Should I put just enough in to add up to the requirements after +attributes, or would it be best just to trade in the AP for a BP enigma or something along those lines with lesser requirements? Will the extra strength screw me at all?

well u can hit AP enig with base str...torch/anni/hoz/all ur gear that gives str...and u could go for enough dex for gear, or enough for max block, not sure what kind of hdin ur makin so cant advise either way there
 
I'm really not concerned with PvP for this character, so it'll be a strictly PvM hammerdin mainly for owning hell chaos runs and MFing possibly. With my smiter in Hell chaos, I constantly get owned by IM and it's quite possibly the most annoying thing in the game. I want to have enough life and defense that dying just won't be an issue, and enough damage that I can own anything easily. My merc is a nightmare defense, for the time being, but I don't have any particular gear for him yet. I will be most likely putting all my extra points into Holy Shield also, for even more defense. I will have 1pt in certain skills like redemption etc. that most guides list as being useful with +skills. Really, the entire focus will be PvM and I don't want to die... at all....
 
well my pvm hdin went pure vita*as much as i could at the time* i didnt have torch/anni/good gear at the time, so i should remake him, i got like 50% block with my gear on, and 4kish life, he doesnt die, and never comes close...merc dies in chaos but i can usually save him, or if i just skip thro killin most of the monsters and just open the seals he usually survives
 
Having "just enough for gear, then max vit" is only needed for PvP. For PvM, you won't have any problems, certainly not any "I screwed myself" problems, regardless of how much you put into str, dex, and vit.
 
for pvm i suggest going max vit with enough dex for block u may not even need torch or anni to waer ap nigma use charms rings and ammulets to glitch the enigma on if ur pvm pvpv i wouldnt suggest htat just cause u die u cant re equip

but i play hardcore so thats the only way i do it :)

I like this build up, an i have had like 7-8 hammers (i know LOL) tryed whit out dex, and whit str out str, and i most say the block and no str no energy is very nice on hammers, the str are not need if you have eni .. maby some charms to help you :)


 
If youre planning on using a HOZ shield for your hammerdin,I would go with just enouh STR for equipment and all the rest into VIT........no DEX,because with maxed HOLY SHIELD and HOZ.you ll have max block even without any DEX.
 
Two very popular (if not necessary?) pieces of equipment for hammerdins which I do not have yet are HoZ, and harlequin crest. I have an eth exile, and I'm wondering if that would be a decent shield for a hammerdin, or would HoZ really make that much of a difference? Also, my best helmet is Andy's demonhead visage. All the gear I have on my smiter (as listed above) is what I'm using unless I can either trade, or somehow acquire the better gear. I'm just wondering how much of a difference HoZ would make. Any thoughts on that?

As far as resistances go, I have 10 shimmering small charms (+5 all resistances) and the exile is +45 to all resistances, a 38 hoto, 24 mara's, and 15 anni

I also have fortitude AP which adds 30 to res, and 25% FCR. Every hammerdin seems to wear enigma all the time, and I'm just wondering if Fortitude would be worth wearing because of not only the resistances, but the FCR (I'm not sure if it would bring me any closer to a breakpoint... no way I have 125% but the 75% is definitely doable)

But if I don't have HoZ then maybe Fortitude would work better with my gear? I would rather wear the enigma for speed and MF though truthfully.

Other than that, I'm sure I'll come across another torch at some point (hopefully a high one) through trading or perhaps just get it myself, so that would add to resistances more. I don't think I will have too much of a problem with res, but is there any other reason I should be using HoZ instead of exile, besides resistances? I definitely want the shako either way for MF, if nothing else... but Andy's gives +2 skills as well as 20% FCR so maybe it would be the better choice for combat, and just use the Shako for MF?

I haven't played hammerdin before, so although these may sound like newb questions, I really have no idea.

I do have some nice gear on my smiter, and of all that I have on him I really wish I could use the 6/6/1 PB CTA on my hammerdin, but with base DEX and a 136 DEX requirement on it I don't see myself being able to use it on my hammer unless I put points into dex. No way I'll have enough +attributes for that. It makes me sad!

Whit the eni you be faster on the spot .. easy to hit targets just tele on the monster .. kill, if they are to hard well just zap away or use remptation

exile is not a good hammer shield. i tryed on my paladin an i most say spirite is the best, in a paladin shield 35-45resist 30-35fcr

its sound like you not poor buy yourself a low pala torch, or any one for the stats/ skill points

My hammer dont have cta atm, in baal games someone will always have bo so i do not need it there ... the only time i miss the bo is when i mf or diaruns in full games...

The hardest part of the hammer god .. is control, learn that ... Tele in fight, out fight ( can be some problemes if you dont have block)

And replace some resist charms whit mf chams

And still whit the mf items he "never" dies, but use alot of potions (revj potions is a most have ^^)

I kill andy duril mef in full games, an have no problems.. only that i need better drops :prop:

Sorry, this may be newbish of me but what do you mean "Glitch" the enimga? I just recently got my enigma made and I also just found out about upping items. Is this in the same realm of ideology?

I'd rather not deal with glitching gear. update status though, my hammerdin is now at level 87 and my gear is as follows:

I have two 10% FCR rings that put me over the 75% breakpoint but I was told that the SoJ is more important, and since I only have one... and wearing the other 10% FCR ring on the other hand would put me at 5% under the breakpoint... that's why I'm wearing the manald heal (have raven frosts too but I think manald is better for me right now)

Also, my mercenary is nm defense, level 86, and is wearing:

My hammer dmg is 13k

The one thing I really need more than anything else right now is Arachnid Mesh, for the FCR so that I can get back above the breakpoint and still have 13k (or hopefully more) hammer damage. Then I could get the ring situation sorted out, and have either another SoJ or BK for another +skill (and more hammer damage)

Other than that, the build has worked pretty well for me. My block rate is only at 65% though right now. I need to put some points into dex. I have 1675 life unbuffed, so I think my vitality is probably high enough. How many more DEX points will it take to get max block with holy shield active? It's at level 26 with +skills already, so I won't get any more chance to block with it... but I'm still putting points into it for the extra defense.

Ok so that's the update, thanks in advance for help/advice. I really hope I don't/haven't messed up this character. I think it'll be pretty nice once I get arachs and another SoJ or BK, not sure how much hammer dmg I'll have then. BH is at level 42 now with +skills... but I could sure go for some more pcombs anyway.

And resistances are at 75/75/85/75. Should I still Um my HoZ anyway?
