hammer/smite uber guide

alright, so this is from memory, and it likely nowhere near as effective with the new hammer nerf, but here goes:

last season, i had a hammerdin with the goal that he could solo every single monster in the game.
pit vipers/'thak were probably the toughest, but it's mainly a matter of paying attention.

end game skills (109 points):
20 hammer
20 vigor
20 blessed aim
20 concentration
20 holy shield
1 smite
1 redemption
1 salvation

1 charge
1 holy bolt
1 might
1 prayer
1 defiance
1 cleansing

i only got to lvl 94. pretty sure it was holy shield i didn't max out.

end game gear:
enigma
shako (ber)
spirit shield (35%)
wizardspike
dracs
arach
+2 pally / 10 fcr ammy
soj
10 fcr ring
snazzy boots

switch:
cta/spirit

inventory
torch, anni, life

secret tech in inventory:
4x shael 2x ber phase blade

this gets you the 125% fcr breakpoint, and 75 resist all.

to kill ubers:
throw hammers at bad guys
teleport next to a boss
switch to your phase blade
(if meph is close, use salvation, otherwise use concentration)
smite boss until it has only a sliver of health
throw hammers to finish it off.

to kill nihlathak:
fast way - teleport on him, throw hammers.
safe way - kill things on the way to him, use redemption. then throw hammers at him.

pit vipers:
don't run/walk. tele everywhere, and then just throw hammers as usual.
redemption is good here so you don't get ce'd.

to kill those magic immune dudes in act 3.
smite them.

hell diablo/baal:
either use hammers, or smite them to ~15%, then hammers.

to kill everything else:
teleport on top of target
throw hammers
if low health/mana, switch to redemption for a sec.

notes:
the ber ber shael shael shael shael phase blade gets you to max smite speed,
and has 40% crushing blow.
the dracs give you life tap.
that right there makes you a ridiculous smiter. and since you hit max speed without fanat, you can use salvation on uber meph, wich is really handy.

also, i found that an act 3 cold merc was nice to have around.
you could gear him up with a lawbringer to make chaos sanctuary easier.
his habit of glacial spiking as soon as you teleport is nice, too.

Re: hammer/smite uber guide

Ahum. Why should we go with that particular set-up? I dont see any compelling reason as why one should make a ber ber shael shael shael shael PB at all. I just see the guide and think "Bleh", another superficial and nauseaus build without structure or reasoning as why one should follow this build and thesse ideas. I wouldn't call this a guide. I'd call it a build.

Re: hammer/smite uber guide

to kill the ubers, you're going to need crushing blow, lifetap, and good speed, right?
the phase blade and dracs give you that, and you only need to swap out one item from the hammer throwing build.

since you don't need the smite weapon in any other part of the game, you might as well get the best weapon for that one task.
runewords and uniques won't hit that last attack speed breakpoint, and they won't have as much crushing blow.
the best alternative i can think of would be beast. it gives you a 7 frame smite instead of 6, and has half the crushing blow %, though.

wizardspike is probably also a questionable choice.
you could use hoto, and swap out soj for another fcr ring, or get a 20% fcr ammy.
you'd need to make up the resists somewhere, though. on the rings, or with charms, or something, and you might die more often with conviction bosses.
the 125% fcr is important, though. hammerdins obviously work with the slower breakpoint, but the faster casting helps tremendously in the following cases:
- getting to/killing seal bosses. with the fcr, i could kill diablo and catch up with the baal team by the second wave. without, i was getting there on the third or fourth wave.
- in the halls of vought, it gives you a batter chance of teleporting out of range of ce after you kill something.
and your damage doesn't really suffer. your raw numbers will be lower, but you hit more often, so it balances out.

Re: hammer/smite uber guide

You should need about 20 ias with pb to max out smite ias. Its a little less but I could look it up on a calc or something like that.

Re: hammer/smite uber guide

if you had fanatacism, it might be. with this build, you don't, though, because it's primarily a hammerdin.

you need 65% with a phase blade, according to here: http://diablo3.ingame.de/tips/calcs/weaponspeed.php?lang=english
that's for a 6 frame smite. 24% gets you 7 frames.

so i guess ideally you would have a 2x ber, 1x shael, and 3 ias jewels with resists.
or you could aim for 7 frames, and go for 4x ber, and 2 jewels.
6 frames should get you lifetap faster and leech more, but the 7 frame one likely kills faster.

Re: hammer/smite uber guide

why not just use that stupid over priced last wish with kira having ias jool and that highlord amulet?

not to mention kira gives CAN NOT BE FROZEN mode which is sort of especial for killing fast with smite?

and why you talking about nitha? as if 15k defence + max block and 25% dr cant sort those vipers out, unless you are not perfect and do not have 4k hp in which case kinda fail.

and btw, hammers do not do enough damage to out regen ubers in players 1 condition, i tested it myself with 12k hammers 125%fcr bp.

Re: hammer/smite uber guide

Yes but a grief PB is on of the best weapons you can have on a smiter for uber trist, and it allows you to zeal hammer immunes rather than smite as being the most damaging weapon in the game it will deal massive damage.

And lets be honest zealing a monster (or handful of monsters) is much easier than smiting each individual one.

Re: hammer/smite uber guide

if there is a big pack of immunes to hammer, you always can do what most sorcs do: teleport away from them.

as a smite vs zeal: i thought this was version specifically "designed" for ubers, not for general mummy killing hybrid.
