Guest Article: Memories of Blizzard North and D2

http://www.purediablo.com/columnists/a-memories-blizzard.shtml

This guest article is by Mike Huang, ex-blizzard employee and technical director of D2X. In it Mike talks about some of the fun and funny times in the early days at bliz north, the endless crunch time as they rushed to finish D2, the diaspora of Bliz employees who worked on Diablo, and more. It's truly an interesting read.

interesting read....we now know who to blame for the Perfect Gem Activation...Peter.

You mean another article which shows how the d2 team got split up? Unfortunately that`s the only thing that occured to me. :undecided:

Anyway, here`s something that made me happy:http://news.softpedia.com/news/Diablo-3-a-secret-revealed-1545.shtml

Holy cow!!
I`m new to this community. I thought it`s something new. :embarassed:

No probs dude! But if peeps are talking about a Diablo 3, just be suspicious and sceptical...

If you're up for it, you can search in the news archive here, you'll find a full article they posted here, you might even search for a thread?

Thanx. I heard about Hellgate: London. People here talk about it like d3. But i saw some screenshots, and its true, some of the artworks are from d2, but I doubt it will be a big hit like d2.

I was really surprised that they started working on the expansion 2 years before the original came out..
I mean, that means there were assassins picking up items that said "slightly increased attack speed" on them at one point in testing.

And fix your av, Flux.

I found it to be a very interesting read. I don't know everything there is/was to know about the D2 franchise even after four years of playing. I hadn't really had high hopes when i heard about their projects but after looking at some of the stuff on their sites, i am a bit curious to see where this will lead. I will say the guns in hellgate will most likely be a huge let down for me given the perceived theme, i don't want another doom as i hated that game anyway. I guess we'll see though. Please tell me there won't be runeworded guns, Ebotd railgun of planetary destruction anyone?:point: :banghead: :duh:

I'm kidding obviously.

Note how he's circumventing the D3 question despite the fact that Roper accidentally confirmed they were working on it when he quit.

For all their star power, Hellgate is going to be Bill Roper's Daikatana. Hybo's making another garbage space RPG, and whatever those other companies are, they aren't going to release anything useful just because they have one or two Diablo devs. See Guild Wars.

You may not personally like GW, but you can't call something that's sold over a million copies, useless.
And there's nothing inheritly bad about space RPGs, I've played a very good one before.
