Dredd: sorry, i'm new to the forums as a member, just lurked for forever, so i'm roughly familiar with protocols involving posting etc, but wasn't aware that that was the correct method to go about things. thanks for pointing that out, and i'll keep it in mind should the situation arise again. :)

jakotaco: no man, i exclusively get my sweet deals from Nigerian inheritances. unless this particular point of origin was in nigeria, in which case i'll just have to start paying through the nose to buy programs and learn about buying and selling houses for no money down.

Scams like this can and will be dealt with swiftly provided you forward the PM to a moderator - any active moderator/admin will do. Maybe I should add a bit about this to the rules above?

If you haven't deleted the PM yet, please forward it to me.

There's no place where you are safe from that.

My parents got a letter like that via (snail) mail 15 years ago. We had a good laugh at it and threw it away, but we didn't beat up the postman or nailed down our letter box. :azn:

it's forwarded now. i've read the rules, don't recall seeing something about forwarding that sort of stuff to a mod, but at the same time it's entirely possible that i just overlooked that part, so i guess double check before bothering to add something?

It's an unwritten rule Bongo. Anything hooky ... Mod it.

The "forward" button should be right next to the "reply" button at the lower right side of the message.

The sender of that PM was banned on May 23rd.

As far as I understand this thread and its title, you were about to leave the forums because of that PM. I was a little astonished about the expectations you have regarding forums or the internet in general.

Nobody spies on PMs sent to others here, so the admins and the mods don't know (and I actually don't want to know) what people send to each other and as a forum member I would be quite upset about it. Even if we could, it would require far too many efforts. If somebody starts criminal activities here, it needs your voluntary cooperation to catch him. There is no forum rule which requires you to hand over all rule breakers to the mods or admins, but it doesn't happen on its own. Of course, helping rulebreakers to perform their scams is a different issue.

close, but not quite. i was having an incomprehensibly bad day in my actual life (yeah, amazingly i still have one of those outside of Dii), and then got on here and just let my temper get out of hand for no reason whatsoever related to the forums, and left a thread saying goodbye (which was a mistake and i'm glad things changed course), but then i checked that PM when i went to look for an option to remove my account, and it made me laugh so hard that i changed my mind about leaving entirely and just edited the content of the thread to show the PM. obviously the title and content don't match, but i didn't want to double post and obviously there was no point in leaving a goodbye message once i decided not to go.

chalk it up to a learning experience, (plus, i will say that the forums here have been a source of release from work stress after i get home. i've played so much Dii and bugged the crap out of my girlfriend (live-in, the poor thing has to put up with me all day) telling her about interesting mechanics or potential loopholes to create new builds or whatever in passing that it's nice to have some like-minded people to converse with since i gave up chatting and IM programs forever ago)

The number of sociopathic people in the world is truly alarming. Seriously. Most of these people truly don't see others as human. It makes you want to bring back the days of the wild west. Of course, they were sociopaths also...

yeah, but the whiskey was cheaper back then, so at least they had some fun?

Sociopath: One who is affected with a personality disorder marked by antisocial behavior.

Psychopath: A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse.

I believe you're mixing up your 'paths.

If you want some really laugh-out-loud funny reads, I've got 2:

1) 419eater. A website about somebody that just does crazy things to 419 scammers (offers to give them money in exchange for advertising, which is, the 419'er or their accomplice holding a sign of his business logo, which often is subtle (or blatant) innuendo.

2) Meme cats. I think I can direct link this one because nothing about kittens with funny sayings could possibly be taken as hostile to anyone http://dropline.net/cats/ I swear this is bottled good day. Whenever you are having a bad day, take 15 minutes to look through some of these pictures, and bang! Problem solved. Bottled good day.

I haven't been able to receive any PMs from anyone for like a year now, but this thread made me a little happier about it.

Clean your pm box. :azn:

OT: I thought the title and content actually matched! You were gonna get millions upon millions of $$$ and therefore not having time to surf this website from your mewly bought beach house on that tropical island.
