Frenzy Barbarian HELP!!!

hi im new to diablo 2 (been playing for a couple weeks) and this site.
i just started making a frenzy barbarian..
ive been "researching" about this build and now i think i made a mistake in my character skill points.

so far my character is lvl 15 with the following skills:

1 howl
1 taunt
1 shout
1 find potion
1 find item
1 axe
1 throwing
1 sword
1 bash
1 double swing
1 double throw
and...my (i think mistake) 4 in increased stam!!

Stats:
ive only been putting points in Str and Vit
ahhh im not sure if ive ruined my character by putting points in different masteries and 4 points in increased stam. Cause i wanna be able to use this character in hell mode and basically beat the entire game with this character

im new so im starting untwinked
so im wondering ..should i restart, and change my skills?
or is my character still capable of beating hell mode?

Re: Frenzy Barbarian HELP!!!

Your char is still easily capable of beating hell mode - you're only down a few skill points, and while your build won't be perfect, a few skill points isn't enough to destroy anything.

With that being said, you're still very early on in the game (you can be back to level 15 on p8 within an hour), so restarting at this point probably isn't a terrible idea.

The only thing you've really done wrong is putting more than one point in increased stamina (and the point in throwing mastery, though I definitely wouldn't restart over just that. Having decently-damaging throw weapons on switch is a pretty good idea untwinked if you can live without the echoing weapons.) - there's nothing wrong with putting a point in multiple (one handed melee, i.e. sword/mace/axe) masteries when playing an untwinked barb. It keeps your options open.

So basically, if 4 extra skill points worth of endgame synergies are worth redoing most of act 1, restart. If it isn't worth restarting, you'll definitely be capable of finishing the game, and probably wouldn't even notice a difference compared to a correctly synergized char.

Re: Frenzy Barbarian HELP!!!

ohh awesome!
thank you very much!
i was starting to get a little worried about those 4 stam points

thanks again!

Re: Frenzy Barbarian HELP!!!

I would restart. I currently have a sword mastery frenzier who is at this.
20 sword mastery
3 nat resist
20 frenzy
12 battle orders(maxing)
and one on everything else.
then im gonna max taunt to give frenzy more damage.
restart, it wont take long to get that high. Max your mastery first, the some natural resist, not to much tho. then max frenzy

Re: Frenzy Barbarian HELP!!!

Untwinked, most people do not max mastery first, since they don't know what they will ultimately use. As CG said, one each in two or even 3 of the 1-H weapon masteries is not too bad, but you should wait until after frenzy is maxed (and you find a viable end-game weapon) before pumping a mastery.

Re: Frenzy Barbarian HELP!!!

Personally I would restart and focus on swords or axes, but I would only put a few points in the mastery focus on maxing BO, frenzy, and double swing. You can gamble/craft if you ever get stuck with a ****ty weapon. If you find a godly mace or something for your level, use it. Not having points in the mastery really won't kill you. TBH, frenzy barbs are powerful enough that with BO and a solid frenzy skill, decent life leech, and fast weapons, you'll be fine.

Plan your gear. Have some endgame options lined up, with runewords as fail-safes. For example, if you go swords, you could conclude that you'd be happy with (nearly) any elite unique or sword, but could use a cruel elite sword socketed with shaels or oath as a main hand weapon and lawbringer as an offhand if you don't find any of the godly stuff.

Barbs are the single most gear dependent class in the game, although you picked a pretty easy build to play. You'd be much better off getting a blizz sorc to nm meph and running him until you get arreat's face, shaftstop/duriels shell, string of ears, etc. to gear your barb. Blizz sorcs can run nm meph naked using the moat trick.

I would play your char through as far as you can and learn from your mistakes. Keep items you think you could ever use again on ATMA and when your barb gets stuck, you can always make a new one with proper skill allocation. With your experience, you'll understand how to avoid a lot of your previous mistakes.

Re: Frenzy Barbarian HELP!!!

I've got an SP untwinked barb in Act 5 NM, and it is hard work. Not looking forward to hell.

I invested 15 pts in sword mastery, and haven't found a decent sword yet. Am currently using a mace (lol) to plug in the gaps. Definitely hold off the mastery until you have a good set of weapons in mind.

Thankfully I've just found an Um rune on the Nightmare hellforge, so I'll use that and make Crescent Moon on a Legend Sword (hopefully I'll find one in Act1 hell). That'll hit the last WW breakpoint 1 hand, and should boost my AR and dmg output considerably.

That said, I could use the UM for Duress. It's a tough call but I think the Barb needs a decent weapon over armour, and there are plenty of unique options that I'm hoping Hell Andy will cough up for me, in order to boost me through hell (NM Meph has been an utter disappointment).

You do have to pick your battles untwinked and really fight smart. Use of a well equipped merc is a constant necessity too. My Act2 might merc has better gear than I (simply due to the etheral uniques I keep finding), and with my BO he doesn't die too often either.

Good luck.

Re: Frenzy Barbarian HELP!!!

Barbs are the single most gear dependent class in the game,
My behind! I took an untwinked HC Barb using only wirt's leg (or my fists) to the Hell Ancients.

It's all in how you play, if you want to be a killing machine that rolls over everything in 10 seconds, the area effects of a sorcy are needed. But if you want to be able to finish the game? ANYTHING.

Untwinked? I prefer Barbs. You can hork corpses for items and pots. You can get increadable amounts of life (the better to stay alive with!) The stamina is no bad thing if you need to run or park a pack, but I'd lay off the skill points and stick to the potions for now.

Frankly, a small mistake here or there doesn't "doom" any one to unplayablity (just look at the random tourney's)... well maybe maxing teleport or all the masteries and no kill skills.
