Re: found this

As far as I know, there's no easy way. Larzuk will always put a maximum of 4 sockets in these shields. It might disappoint you if you get a wrong roll, but cubing seems to be the only way.

Re: found this

my friend say to me, that the probability to open 4 sockets its hight, and if i cube in normal, the max. i get its 3 socks; he say to me to go to normal and cube, its that right ?

Re: found this

I'm not sure about this, but if you do the cubing or larzuk in normal with a very low level char, 3 sockets is the max.

Don't take my word for it though, ask someone who knows for sure

Re: found this

All paladin shields have a strict maximum of four sockets.

If the shield has an ilvl between 1 and 25 inclusive (it was dropped by a low level monster), then it will have three sockets as a maximum. Larzuk will always give an item its maximum number of sockets, regardless of difficulty or character level.

list of max sockets: http://diablo2.diablowiki.net/Sockets

Your kurast shield almost surely has an ilvl greater than 25, so its maximum is 4 sockets. Larzuk (any larzuk) will give it 4 sockets. If you socket it in the cube, it has a 1/6 chance for 1 socket, a 1/6 chance for 2, a 1/6 chance for 3, and a 1/2 chance for 4. It doesn't matter where you do the socketing or what level the character is.

BTW, if wouldn't put any hrs in a shield with less than 40 res. And I'd try to get one with 42+.

Re: found this

If you're willing to spend an hr on it already, try trading for a decent one.

Another option:

Pickip/buy a few cracked/damaged/low-quality paladin shields. Repair them in the cube with shield+el+chippie; when you repair, the defense is rerolled, the resists are rerolled, and the ilvl is reset to one - so it will get 3os from larzuk. The only problem is that you may have to repair a lot of shields before you get one with a good res mod.

Dream has a low +ed% mod and gives +150 to +220 defense, so the defense on the shield doesn't matter too much.

The maximum amount of res or ED from paladin shield automods is determined by the shield's ilvl, so you'd never get one with good res using the repair method.
