For the strictly melee PvP'er... Enigma or Steel Carapace?

I'm trying to figure out what to use. I have Enigma, and an Eth Steel Carapace. But which should I use? I was thinking I should use the Steel Carapace, considering it has about 2900 defense and since I'd only be dueling melees it would be a nice touch for defense.

But Enigma could give me extra life. I really can't make up my mind, and I need a few experienced people to help me decide.

Could a Stone Archon Plate fare well? The defense would be decent, and the strength requirement not extremely ridiculous (220 on Steel Carapace).

Could anyone with experience help me decide?

a perf stone is a pretty nice melee armor. the higher defense the better, making them have a lesser chance of hitting you is good.

Also if you have enough um runes laying around, along with some nice ethreal elite armors (sacred, high archon, etc..) you can make some incredibly high defense armors. This isn't the most efficient way of using your armors, but remember if you keep the armor at 1 durability you can give it to your merc :). So ya, I'd say stone armor would be your best bet. Whether or not you use eth armors for it is up to you.

Does an Ethereal Steel Carapace beat out the Stones? Mine has approximately 2900 defense (Pul'd) and does not wear out to to repair durability.

Does stone beat this? If so, by how much in terms of defense?

Even if stone DOES beat this, it won't be as efficient.

Which armor would you recommend overall in terms of efficiency and defense balanced?

What exactly is a perfect example of a perfect stone? Eth? What kind of armor should it be in?

Well if you used a perfect eth sacred armor (not superior) the defense would be 3510 and a perfect eth archon plate (not superior) would have 3065 def. You can get perfect superior armors as well, but the odds are pretty bad so I left that out of the equation. Anyways to answer your question I think the best armor for you would be a perfect eth archon because it has really decent defense, it's light armor, and it won't cost you and arm and a leg in str requirements. Only use the sacred armor if you can get 222 str easily with your equipment. Hope this helps.

I believe that a non eth tone will have less defence than a eth steel carapace, so if you dont have a eth stone, stick with the steel carapace.
a nice armor for stone is the highest defense armor you can get...

Thanks for the advice! Eth stone armor sounds pretty interesting, but honestly, how efficient is it? From experience, how long does a good piece of armor last? I really want to try this out with an Eth archon, but honestly, is it worth it spending those runes over and over?

if you only use it to duel...id say like a wicked long time

archon and sacred both have 60 normal durability, (30 ethereal) and since you wont really be getting hit that much to begin with, it will last quite a long time...just dont pvm with it

I think I may just go with Steel Carapace... 2870 Defense with Pul inside...

+30 STR (BOTD)
+18 STR (Anni)
+20 STR (Arreat's)

Strength wouldn't have to be too high. I think I'll be just fine.

I prefer Stone Wire Fleece. Mine has 1900def, and only 111str req. With all the +str gear you listed, you need virtually no str.. which means more life/AR.

Just my preference.

besides that, stone has way better mods than steel carapace. i mean, which melee barb needs 20% mana regen? 60% fhr on stone is godly.

Except for on whirlwind/conc barbs, whose attacks don't get interrupted anyways. Berserkers/Frenziers, 60% fhr might be useful.
