enchantress with energy shield

i was a barb and my damage was 57 max, and some lvl 80 soc just pump it to 3000, i was like wtf.
so i was thinking could we make a untwinked energy shield soc with everything else in warmth and enchant? so she could tank and support?

Erm, anyone in particular your trying to reach with this?
 
well a friend of mine likes enchantresses....

first off there's a bug with energy shield so dont use it. elemental damage ignores your resists and hence rapes your mana ball.

as far as enchant goes, with 20 warmth, 20 enchant, and 20 fire mastery you'll only get to about 630 average damage. with loads of plus skill items maybe it can get super high, not sure, dont feel like doing the math.

i guess the question is, what do you want for your secondary attack?

you've already got the pre-reqs for hydra, plus you have fire mastery maxed, you could do that. with 8 to 10 points in hydra it could be pretty respectable.

62 skill points (for enchant) + any you want to put in hydra, doesn't leave you with a lot of points to face hell with. you'll need a seriously twinked out merc to tank for you (holy freeze is a must im thinking). you'll also need a backup element to face fire immunes in hell. orb maybe?

you certainly dont have any points for energy shield!
 
Oh man...after a stickied thread about ES and a complete guide on ES sorc there's still people running around claiming ES is bugged? Sheesh, I would have figured people would have read up on the matter by now.
 
gee i was thinking of an oddball build inspire by that chap that pump my damage sky high
i was just lvl 18, at 2000+ to 3000+ damage, it was sensational!! imagine you running ard with small parties, esp necro summon. you can run baal a zillion times blindfolded. you'll be popular too. all along i've depended on buses and baal runz to give me a very large part of my levels. does that help?
 
I would have to agree with Zarhrezz on this one. My enchantress is level 79 right now, does about 5K fire damage per hit, with like 19 points in telekinesis, 1 in energy shield. I'll be putting a decent number of points into energy shield after TK is maxed, and I have to say, energy shield is already an amazing tank. I have about 50 resist all in hell, with some decent cold and fire absorb, and the ONLY monsters that ever "****" my mana ball are mana burns. Nothing else even puts much of a dent in it, not even those scarab beetles that constantly hit you with charged bolts when attacked.

It is important, if going the energy shield route, that you get some "magic damage reduced by __" mods on your gear, as this, combined with energy shield will make your build quite resilient when it comes to elemental damage. Physical damage is fairly easily handled as well, get 50% PDR and you're all set.

Note that for energy shield to be useful, you must max telekinesis. Energy shield is now either all or nothing, there's no inbetween.
As for a secondary attack for fire immunes, I find that static field and a quality merc solve all my FI problems rather quickly, so I haven't had to put points into a secondary attack.
BTW Glenn, I whole-heartedly recommend making an enchantress...fun by the boatload.

with only 1 point in ES, you are only going to get 20% of damage to mana, even if it is elemental. This means that a 1k damage will remove 200 mana (roughly 16 TK), nothing at your level! however you will still lose 800 health.

if you put a lot of points in ES, and +skills, then as buckman said it would "****" your energy ball, but not buggy, just normal damage. it is wrong to say it is bugged, it doesnt do extra damage, just it doesnt do reduced damage, so is on par with magic and physical damage.

however you say energy shield is all or nothing, i disagree. it is true that the way you are using it that it effectively adds 20% to your health, especially if you only use enchant, so no mana drain. im sure that if i think about it however, there is probably a nice sweet spot in the middle of energy shield that could work well with damage to mana. say level 7, then add 100% damage to mana, you will lose no mana when hit, and will take half normal damage. this would probably work better with a high health, moderate mana build like yours. this would also remove the danger of mana burn i think.
