Do you create a seperate account for your mules?

Was wondering how do people create mules generally. Do you create them on your own main account or do you have a special 'mule' account that contains all your items?

Re: Do you create a seperate account for your mules?

It saves some time to have the mules on the same account as your main characters you play. You have to wait a few seconds between screens when switching accounts or else you can get temp ban. However, with so little space atm, you pretty much have to use seperate accounts for mules. So the answer is both.

It helps to have few main characters to make room for mules on your main account. I just delete high level characters that I don't use anymore or use them as mules.

Another problem is you got ladder, nonladder, sc and hc mixes so it kind of hogs space to have like 6 nl characters which you never touch on your main account because you are playing ladder now.

ah, thanks for the insight.

Separate accounts. It just looks nicer to have 8 characters all equipped and what not on the character selection screen, without having some poop boy plopped right in the middle so when your friends see it they go "*snicker* easy mode? How embarrassing..."
And then you go :embarassed:.

Also, rule of thumb. If you only go into three characters and switch accounts, and do the same for the other account, you won't get temp banned. I've been doing that for years without waiting at all between accounts and characters and I've never gotten the boot.

Thanks for the tip, I got temp banned once; this will help me nicely.

Re: Do you create a seperate account for your mules?

I usually use retired chars on my main account as mules. Its nice to have mule characters that can enter Hell mode games, so I can make a game with my main and actually do stuff for 5 mins while it perms besides sit in town...

I have a separate account for dedicated-purpose mules though, like a Rune Mule, a Gem and Key Mule, a Socketed Item Mule, a Twinking Items Mule, etc. Makes things easy to organize and find, but of course you wont have room on one account for all your playing chars and a bunch of specialty mules.

Getting tbanned while switching screens is probably the easiest one to avoid. I usually just count to 3 between each screen and I havent been burned by that in a long, long time. You have 5 mins before anything on the ground poofs, anyway, so just calm yaself :)

Re: Do you create a seperate account for your mules?

As with droid, I keep a few retired chars on my main account for a fast mule in a hell game, but then I usually pawn the stuff off later into a mule account. After a while all the crud just takes up too much space, particularly if you're doing things like improving low runes to rals, sols, hels etc. and improving gems into pgems.

The only times I've ever been temp banned when muling between accounts was when I was in a hurry. If you wait until you have time to arse around shifting things, you're much less likely to leave games too quickly and get banned. Another trick is to shift some items, then improve a bunch of gems (which takes time) then shift more items, then improve some runes. Taking breaks between shifting items to do something time consuming really cuts down on temp bans (and is part of why I bother).

Re: Do you create a seperate account for your mules?

It is the best to categorize your mules, as suggested - "gloves mule", "rings mule" etc. but it's much easier said than done, this requires a lot of time spent muling. An alternative is creating a dedicated MF account. This way you have 1-2 MF characters + 6 mules, then you can "mule out" the items to a separate, prepared account. Of course this usually requires someone to help you do the big muling (it is good if you can run two copies of the game at the same time).
In LOD, you can also sell all the items for currency, thus you clean your mules quicker. Ive played classic mostly and I often got stuck with items that noone would buy, but it would be a waste to throw them away - thus dedicated muling system worked.
Now I've started LOD and to be honest I dont have the time to create dedicated mules, with proper names... well I dont have that many items yet.

yes. thats what i keep doing nowadays. Most of my crap rares are now charsi food :P

Re: Do you create a seperate account for your mules?

I just use characters that I got bored with/didn't work out as mules, but I don't play enough to have a huge amount of items. The only stuff I really keep are things that will be good for a low level character starting out (all-purpose items) or items for other higher level characters that I have at the time. If I find a really, really good item that would be perfect for a specific build, I usually consider making that character to use it. I don't do separate accounts, it's just too much trouble for me.
