Crafted Items vs. Unique Items

Has anyone compaired crafted items vs. unique items? Can a crafted item have the capacity to actually be better than an elite unique item?

Helm: No. Rare circlets are usually top notch, not to mention it's nearly impossible to top some of the u/s (unique/set) like CoA/Griffon's Eye/G-Face to name a few.

Armor: No. Runewords can beat the best crafted armors, not to mention plenty of sexy u/s.

Shields: No. Look above.

Weapons: Definately can outclass a rare or unique or set. Unfortunately, the godliest crafted weapon usually won't beat something like eBOTD or Grief.

Everything else is a yes.

Rings/Ammys/Belt/Boots/Gloves are all good possibilities.

As for weapon, you'd really have to get ALL the perfect mods on a phase blade I believe. 2 open sockets, fool's, IAS, the mod under cruel (can't remember atm) and other mods as per your build like life/mana leach.

A crafted weapon would compare but probably fall short.

As per chest/helm/Shield runewords are too good in those areas.

^ I don't think you can craft swords.

The best possible crafted weapon should be something like this:

Blood Beserker Axe
+ 20 HP
+ 4% Life Leech
+ 360% Enhanced Damage
+ 0.5 Maximum Damage per Level
+ 16.5 to Attack Rating per Level
+ 40% Increased Attack Speed
+ 2 Open Sockets

I think Cruel + Fool's should outdamage a Cruel + Master's.

I don't think so... even if an ethereal could be crafted, I don't think it can outdo Grief even with the additonal 50%...

No, any recipe which modifies the item's ilvl casts away ethereality, except for socket recipe, of course. At least, that's how I think it works like.

Crafting weapon and armor in 1.09+ is a joke, but in 1.07 magic only affixes were possible, and crafts could get 3sox from larzuk. Any weapon could be crafted as well.

How about a Tmaul with 580%ED, 62max, lotsa AR, 40%IAS and 3 sockets? Seeing how a eBOTD tmaul can't reach last BPs for fury/ww, there would be no way of beating one, even forwarded to 1.11b Put in 3 40/15s and we get:

700%ED, 85%IAS, 62max, some AR, some leech/life or dr/mdr depending on the recipe.

For a dmg range of 264 - 1502 two-hand damage.
