Chilling Armor

So ive read a ton of sorc pvp guides and they all contain this skill without telling us why! Until recently I read something about it and someone said it actually makes you take a lot less damage from ranged attacks, for example Fireball. I dont remember where I read it im afraid but im just curious to know if this is true and if it is how much damage does it remove?

It doesn't directly reduce the damage you take, but it does indirectly reduce the damage you take by increasing your defense (slightly decreasing your chance to be hit by attacks that take into account the enemy's attack rating) and chilling your attackers (slightly decreasing the frequency at which enemies attack you).

In short, all it does it increase your defense and chill enemies that attack you. Btw, Shiver Armor is generally much more useful than Chilling Armor.

You are very wrong there, what chilling armor does is deflect missle attacks so that they don't even effect you and adds defense.

Taken directly from Arreat Summit. Great place to go to find out about how skills work.

"Frozen Armor vs Shiver Armor vs Chilling Armor

Only one type of cold armor can be active at one time. You can, however, use one cold armor, with Energy Shield, Enchant, and Thunderstorm at the same time.

Frozen Armor Freezes a Melee Monster that attacks you. For some players Frozen Armor is the most desirable because it Freezes the monster, which will give you time to move out of the way. Frozen Armor however offers the least Defense Bonuses.

Shiver Armor does not freeze but does Cold Damage to a Melee Monster that attacks you.

Chilling Armor only works against Ranged Attackers, it will not respond to Melee attacks but will still provide a Defense Bonus.

Because you cannot have all three active at once, it's best to decide which one you will use. You can however switch between Chilling Armor and Shiver/Frozen Armor when dealing with Ranged vs Melee Monsters. This will, however, require intense micromanagement."

Chilling Armor Further Defined

"The best defensive spell available to a Sorceress is manifest in this formidable armor. The spell actually defends against ranged attacks, turning aside arrow and bolt. Those seeking to engage the Sorceress shall soon feel the icy bite of their folly"

Hmm... maybe I'm thinking back to 1.09 or something when nobody used it...

I knew that it retaliated against ranged attacks, but I had no idea it actually deflected them.

I don't know if it works better the more you put into it or not, I'll create a character and max it with a bunch of +skills to find out i suppose. And the damage it deflects when it works is all of the damage. It acts like block.

Thanks for taking your time to test it :)

Just one more thing I need to know is, how much damage it actually reduce...

I mean will I be able to survive 10k FB's with it on and if I didnt have it on would I otherwise die? What I mean is, maybe it defelcts but does it deflect enough to do any big matter when talking PvP?

I believe you're confusing the difference between elemental and physical ranged attacks. IIRC, it doesn't deflect any 100% elemental ranged attacks.

Chilling Armor is only good against melee missile if you in a Mage duel, Chilling armor will rarely help you.

I can remake a video. It does have the same effect on missle spells too, not just arrows. It doesn't reduce damage at all, what it does is deflect the damage completely like you were never attacked.

So what...does it have a particular % chance to deflect a missile? :/

PS: Starting to get more and more confused at what this spell do besides the obvious lol :p

I have played d2 for about 6-7 years, and NEVER knew that it worked that way! I thought it just increased def and fired that little ice missile when you were hit. I never knew i removed damage. Thx for the info

Ps: what happens if you get hit by a fire ball? do u have a chance to completly remove that dmg to?

Well now we know :)

I guess the question of what armor to choose for PvP isnt needed anymore :P

PS: Big thanx to ThatWasShockin for showing us how Chilling Armor truly works!
