Changing the cd-key

Is there a way to change the current cd-keys for Diablo 2?

The reason I need to know is because I want my brother to be able to play in B.Net simultaneously with me. Currently we have the same cd-keys. I happen to have two copies of Diablo 2 (the first one stopped working, so I bought another one), but only one Lord of Destruction. But I managed to get another LoD key from a friend of mine who no longer plays D2.

Like you all probably know, installing D2 is a pain in the cheeks. So I've been trying to find out whether it's possible to change the cd-keys in an easier way. I've searched the registry, D2 folder and the mpqs, but haven't found anything that could point me into the right direction. Any ideas?

This topic pushes against the overall forum rule: "Please do not post links or information about hacking/warez/cheats." I realize you have two legit copies of the game, but the process you want info on (changing a CD key) is a hacking process - against the rules here. Sorry.

If you loaded D2 on two computers so that you could say play D2 on your home computer and take D2 with you on your labtop computer for trips then you have done nothing against blizzards rules. now after some time you wish to give the labtop to your brother he plays D2 and wants to play on Bnet with you but you had loaded D2 and obtained a second disk by purchase. So he could play.

simple:

1 uninstall on of the D2's but before doing so save the D2 savefiles elsewhere.

2 install D2 fresh with the CD key given by the new packaging, it is perfectly legal to install using the same D2 original as before.

AE that is a risky situation but its not a hack or warez since he is using a "purchased" CD key to correct a situation.

Actually thats not true. Now I'll grant you that I haven't read the specific EULA for this game, but standard software licencing allows you to install 1 and only 1 version on 1 and only 1 computer. To install it on another computer, it must be removed from the first. Purchasing a piece of software does not, legally speaking, allow you to install it on every computer you own even if you only use one computer at a time and no one else uses them. Now you can certainly do what you suggest without getting caught, but it is not allowed by the license.

I suggest the painful, legit way of doing things. ;)

I'm terribly sorry for the breaking of forum rules. *goes and studies them carefully so that there won't be a next time*

I installed the darn thing all over again. Did the trick. Currently moving through Act 2 with my Venomancer and my brothers Charged Boltress. Will make a thread soon...
