CD KEY Problem

Ok Ok I'll admit it... Recently a friend of mine gave me his old computer and I'm trying to install Diablo II into it, the problem is of course I lost my Diablo II CD key. Although I have two EXPANSION CD KEYs (because I bought it twice) it seems that the cd-key for the original is still required. What I tried to do is use a cd key generator to get me past the pesky original diablo II disc install (which I thought was really unimportant since I'm going to be playing Expansion) but after I installed everything (including expansion with BOX CD KEY) it still gave me an error saying that i didn't have a proper CD KEY. Now one of two things could have happened

1.) I could have typed in the wrong EXPANSION CD KEY (because I have 2 of them from BOX) or...

2.) the cd-key generator I used to install original Diablo 2 was rejected

Ok so this is a VERY annoying problem since I just figured out that the cd-rom drive on the computer my friend gave me is crap and couldnt install starcraft of diablo 2, and so i just figured out if i used the cd-rom off my old computer it might work ( and it did ) but now I've run across this problem of the cd-key. I was just thinking if anyone could help me out with this...

I was wondering what if i copied game.exe from my old computer and emailed it to myself and replaced it with the game.exe in my new computer... would that work at all?

I belive key-gens are a no-no. And most likely contain a trojan/keylogger/virus. I thinkyou can get a new key from blizzard for a price.
~$10 I think.

No No No I know keygens are wrong and I don't wanna spend another 10$ on ANYTHING, thats the whole damn point. I've bought diablo 2 and expansions like 3 times already. I just want to extract my cd key from my old computer so that I can install it on my new computer (if that is possible), because the stupid sticker fell off the case.

If you had a LOD copy on your PC that was installed with a key – generator then you will have a problem trying to install a legit version and connecting to Bnet. This is because while you uninstalled the previous version (cracked) his cd key was left in the system registry and the newer version did not over right it. You must:

Uninstall cracked version
Delete cd key entries in the system as it follows:

Start\Run type: Regedit (system registry will open)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Battle.net <------ right click / delete Battle net Directory
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment <------ right click / delete Blizz Enter. Directory


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Battle.net <------ right click / delete Battle net Directory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment <------ right click / delete Blizz Enter. Directory

Install legit version
