Boxing day - now why is it called that??

Hi, welcome to boxing day. i dont know if USA celebrates boxing day, but we do in england.
Havent played D2 today, played some last evening, im round my dads house right now, Im waiting for the turkey and sprouts (damn sprouts) should be here in about half hour.
Hows everyone else today?

Boxing Day is so named because of the tradition of boxing up gifts for servants and allowing them the day off. Although since hardly anyone has servants these days it's rather a moot point. </random fact>

Played my HC Necro some more yesterday, and I'm still marvelling at his enormous killing power. And today I've thus far done very little indeed.

Have a good Boxing Day everyone!

From what I hear - Boxing day is the day that you round up all the boxes from your gifts ... or something to that effect.

Canada has Boxing day - in fact it's going crazy right now. Stores opening up at 6am, sales online like mad and everything OOS and replenishing many times during the day. Some pretty good deals.

As I see, Boxing day is starting to take off in certain parts of the States. I know living in Vancouver, BC that retailers in Seattle are making the move to Boxing day too. They have been advertising in Vancouver newspapers for Boxing day and it's just a matter of time when it really moves through the US if it hasn't already.

I remember driving to Seattle during Boxing day afternoon for the heck of it with a buddy hoping in my ignorance to score some deals on stuff that was either expensive in Vancouver or stuff we couldn't get here. Got to downtown Seattle and it was deader than fried chicken.

I know that the US has Black Friday which I believe is the day after US Thanksgiving holiday where they do the crazy shopping thing.

OT: the clocks..there back to normal. wow, no more islamabad time for me. And in england we have sales on boxing day, but its not a major shopping day, no shops openiong early or mad rushes to get great deals. the deals normally starta few days later.

Funny: A special D2 event in Germany is also called 'Boxing Day'. A group of barbarians fight through the game only with their fists! :teeth:

Our relatives are here today, so not much D2 for now. Tonight I will play my venomancer. In the last days I did well over 1000 meph runs and still no marrowwalks, no tals ammy, no highlords wrath and no herold... BUT I had the very best drops/time ratio I EVER had. He dropped unbelievably good items in short intervals... Wow, i found:

Guardian Angel (2 of them!! And they were my first!!)
Bul Kathos Wedding band (first)
The Reapers Toll (first, woot!)
Skullders Ire (first)
Soul Drainer (grail)
Lava Gout (grail)
Tiamats Rebuke (grail)
War travelers (6% mf increase :teeth:)
Kelpie Snare
Cold/ Lightning facets
Spike Thorn (grail)
Wolfhowl (first)

Yeppers. Basically to do with the whole servent thing.

I must say. It's most horrible the shops opening on Boxing Day. Whenever I hear of that I think of the poor people who have to go in and work on Boxing Day, getting preasured by the employers to forgoe their holidays in order to make yet more money for the rich.

But I guess that's just my Socialist brain working overtime. :-p

Myself, I'm starting to get into Diablo II again after playing Baldurs Gate and realising how much better Diablo is. Trying out a Necromancer who will use summoning as him main skill. I already have around 10 each in Raise Skeleton and Mastery, now thinking about whether I will maybe try a Golem or have some mages running around aswell. Should be fun no matter what I chose.
