BNET Account Scammed

To all forum members:

Please be on alert for some type of scam on BNET that has just occurred to me. I have been playing for the last 6 months or so almost daily. I logged into my account this evening and low and behold.... all of my excellent items are missing from all of my characters. My Greif, Fort, Hoz, Dracs, Torches, Annis, Skillers, Tals, Travs, etc... however, the rest of my, less valued, inventory is still there.

Most of these items were self found and not from trades, so its not a dupe related issue. I have NEVER given out my password to anyone and it is a complex alphanumeric. I thought I was aware of all the various scams and have protected myself accordingly - I guess not!!

If anyone else has had this happen or know anything about this, please message me, so that I can prevent this from happening again as I restart all my wonderful charactors.

:(

Didnt visit any websites, or accept any "screenshots" from ppl on bnet, regarding torch / anni trades?

Only this website and only the screenshots linked in forum posts. I have never made an anni or torch trade.

Thanks for suggestion.

thanks for the info.. but still, what scam ? all we know is your stuff just dissappeared =P

I don't quite know what the scam is. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Basically, someone managed to hack my account. Just want to make sure other forum members are not targetted.

just because you lost some stuff doesn't mean anyone hacked your account....what were you doing the last time you played? what did you do before you last logged off?

do you use any bots or maphack programs?

Last time I played I was MFing and area clearing in private games by myself as I usually do. Made couple of trades (ie. a 40pgems 4 pul, etc..). I use no bots or hacks of any kind.

I have 6 characters with stuff missing from each - some of these charactors have not been used for a couple of days.

well things don't just disapear...at least not in the large quantities you're describing...b.net glitches few and far between and perhaps someone may lose an item...but never "just the good ones" from one account, off of several characters....

IMO, you're either leaving someting out, or you're lying/greatly exaggerating...

Check your PMs.

Apart from that.. a keylogger seems most likely; but what puzzles me, is that they left your password unchanged, and characters still there.

In the future, try swapping in ascii chars. They provide a lot more solid protection, than standard alphanumeric, and the battle.net forums do not recognize them.

ex: sublimity < 5u8|im17y < §ü8|im17¥

Nope, he is not lying/exaggerating. Same thing happened to me. Lost all the decent stuff I had on one account. For some reason my mules were left untouched, as well as probably the most valuable items I have (Perfect Shadow Dancers, godly crafted ammy). I estimate losses at 27 soj anyway...

I assume hacking... But eh.

The ascii is the most important part of that post. I am a computer person and i am Security+ certified. I have taught the CEH ( certified ethical hacker ) class at my former job. THE ONE THING THAT ALL PASSWORD CRACKING SOFTWARE PROGRAMS CANNOT HANDLE IS ASCII CHARATERS. in all of the dictonaries and self made dictonaries and all of the charater set files for these programs, the one type of charater that is not at all EVER included is ASCII. Best example i can give is to start your password with
hold down the left alt key and press 258 and then type in your password. for example "?password" DO NOT USE THIS EXAMPLE!

I love how someone comes here and advises us of what happened to them - and is called a liar.

Can we ask questions without accusing someone first? Once we get the facts to determine what might have happened -- then 'pass judgement'...

Unfortunately most of these type losses are due to people trying to use 3rd party software and they got 'hacked' with a virus or key logger. If someone tries to use 3rd party software (cheats and hacks) they basically deserve what happens.

If you have none of that - and cant think of anyone who might have access to your accounts or know you well enough to figure out your pw --- then we really do want to know about that

Of course you have to pass the forum inquisition 1st :)

Well, considering all these posts together I only have one question:

Were there ANY failed login attempts when you logged in for the first time and saw that everything dissappeared?

YES: then someone (most likely a friend) had a hunch what you password could be, and he tried some and got lucky

NO: you mentioned your password anywhere and you forgot about it

There is NO other explenation, considering the information you gave us about never visiting websites and downloading any hacks.
aw..thats a bit cruel don't ya think?
Considering there Are at least 3 other explanations. 'm waiting to hear his reply still, concerning those though.
