block rate question

Hi,

I am working on my auradin who is currently lvl 81 and has a dream gilded shield. I only have 1 point into holy shield so far and have almost 400 stat points to put in. I do want max block for this pally and I am not sure how much dex I need to put in to achieve that. I am planning on spending the rest of my skill points on holy shield.

My question is
Does putting in 1 point each lvl into holy shield increase more % block rate than gaining a lvl decreases?
IDK if that makes sense for you guys but thanks in advance for any response.

Dexterity Required for 75% Chance to Block
Dexterity = (75 * Character Level * 2) / (Blocking) + 15

Blocking = A total of the Blocking on all of your items. (E.g: Guardian Angel, Twitchthroe, Any Shield, Holy Shield)

HS doesn't increase the chance to block evenly. It starts to diminish quite rapidly after lvl 17. So depending on what lvl HS you have, putting a extra skill point into HS can overcome the extra dex needed when you level.

Well it seems everybody is avoiding answering you directly probably because of the math. Lemme give it a shot.

HS gives you diminishing amounts of block and lvl 14 is nearly as good as lvl 20 in that it 14 gives you +33% as opposed to +35% at lvl 20.

So to answer your question, yes, at first it will but eventually it will not. Also you did not mention any +skill gear that you might have which would drastically change it.

So let's first calculate it at its max. Clvl: 99, HS: 19 [+34](assuming no +skill or +block gear), Gilded Shield: 52% block.
Dex=(75 * Character Level * 2) / (Blocking) + 15
Dex=(75*99*2)/(52+34)+15
Dex=14850/86+15
Dex=188

So that's the most you'll need.

I worked it all out on Excel and this is what will happen as far as Dexterity Requirement for Max is concerned if you increase HS 1 pt every level.
Lvl: Dex:
81 200
82 191
83 188
84 183
85 181
86 181
87 181
88 180
89 180
90 180
91 180
92 182
93 182
94 181
95 183
96 183
97 185
98 186
99 188

There ya have it. Ya see how it starts out high (200) then dips (180) then comes back up (188). If I were you I'd just give yourself 188 dex (after gear). You'll need two skill points to get max block but then you should be good.

I assume you probably do have some +skill gear that you didn't mention which could change things a bit, but even if you have as much as +10 skill, it will still only vary your dex req by 6 stat points so no biggie. I hope this helps.

Clervis, your calcs are a bit off. A character with said shield/HS at level 81 would need 157 dex, not 200.

Remember the equation:

Dex = [(75 * (clvl*2)) / block] + 15

Take special note of all of the parentheses and brackets and stuff.

Step by step:
81*2 = 162
75*162 = 12150
12150/86 = 142 (rounded up)
142+15 = 157

Therefore, Dex = 157

Dexterity required for max block will always increase with each level, it will not go down. Perhaps you missed something when plugging the equation into Excel.

Nah, you misunderstood. He says he has a guilded shield and one point in HS. That gives him 52 for the shield and 14 from HS. So that's 66 blocking not 86.

Dex = [(75 * (81*2)) / 66] + 15
Dex= 199.09

He didn't mention any plus gear stuff so I assumed HS lvl 1.

Also, your right, Dex for max block does go up for every level, but he said that he was going to be putting the rest of his skill points into HS, so it should be going up 1 every level. So that's where I got those numbers.
