Here's a readout from an SP Black Scourge from a switching-characters tourney I played in. The character Artie-Lange, was a Frenzy barb and had ragtag equipment, and needed a good source of crushing blow, so this was his:
The big plus is of course the crushing blow. Knockback is a little annoying but overall Black is a great runeword for fast hitters like zealots.
Getting 3 sockets is much of the problem, as the cube recipe gives a 1/6 chance and white (and grey) scourges don't exactly grow on trees. I got this one by cubing and I think it was my second try, so I was fortunate there. It may be possible to find a low-quality one, cube it to make it ilvl 1, and then get 3 sockets but I'd have to look more carefully to see if that would work.

Black is a handy weapon. Depending on the character, the CE charges can also be very useful for corpse disposal, although a bit expensive.
That will definitely work. I've done it a couple times with a Knout. A cube-normalized scourge will have a 67% (4/6) chance of getting 3 sockets with the cube-socketing recipe. Alternatively, a socket quest will guarantee 3 sockets. ilvl1 = 3 sockets max. (If you try to cube-socket a regular scourge, it will only have 1/6 chance of 3 sockets. Larzuk can't help either, he'd give it 5 sockets.)
