Best weapon for Berserk Barb?

Wouldn't Tomb Reaver make a great zerk weapon ? It's fast, range 4, semi-high dmg, has res all to make up for not having SS, and it might get three sockets !

back in 1.1 beta days (last summer) a lot of people including me were saying how tomb reaver was the best non-runeword added to the game. it just screams sexy.

most of the appeal though rests in the way it covers mods you wuold otherwise have to get from other sources, meaning the resists and magic find. these 2 stats really loosen up a pvm equipment setup, allowing you to tweak like crazy.

i suppose if you are very rich and you get a 3 socket tomb reaver you could ber ber ber it for 60% crushing blow. i play single player and do not trade, so this is out of the question for me, and i think most people would find it too expensive, but the option exists nontheless.

i would personally be very stressed out if hell baal dropped a gold cryptic axe because the ranges on tomb reaver are enormous, meaning there is a good chance of getting 'a bad one.' at the bottom end, tomb reaver sucks. 200% damage and 1 socket = bad. you really need all the mods to be at their max for this to be a cool weapon. most top end weapons have either very high damage or medium damage and some crushing blow/deadly strike. tomb reaver has medium damage, but neither damage helper mod. especially since we are discussing IK maul and ribcracker, tomb reaver is fairly underpowered for raw damage.

also, a lot of people are under the impression that it must be the fastest thing on the planet because it has a 60% speed mod. truth be told, a tomb reaver with 3 sockets and shael shael shael in addition to 45% off-weapon IAS are required to get this thing under 12 frames. we are talking 105% extra IAS in addition to the base 60% just to get 1 frame faster than a shael + 40% off-weapon IAS ribcracker. to get to 12 frames without using any sockets, tomb reaver needs 50% off-weapon IAS, which is 20% gloves and two 15% IAS jewels in hat and armor. so basically, it is just as fast as rib or IK.

and that reanimate feature is useless...i posted about it months ago and i will explain agani if anyone cares. but right now im sleepy.

in any case, this IS a great magic find item because you can wear skulders and skip the upgraded vipermagi or upgraded duriels because it covers your resists well, not to mention having its own magic find mod. for me, i only need 1 magic find character, and the rest are pure monster slayers :yep:

i have actually never heard of anyone using ex justice, probably because no one has one (its tc87, i.e. hard to find). it is another item that excited me on paper when i saw it come out in the beta.

first off, why do you want it to be ethereal? do you have a zod waiting for it? i can think of many uniques that i would rather stick a zod in that ex justice, such as an eth hellslayer, eth deathcleaver, etc

as for ex justice itself, its pretty good. ok damage, ok crushing blow, ok speed, and even some defense cut. the problem is that decrepify feature isnt all its cracked up to be.

reaper's toll is probably the best concentrate weapon in proportion to how much people overlook it, because it casts decrepify which cuts and can even break phys resist. however, reapers casts on striking. justice casts on death. the problem with cast on death is that decrepify has a tiny radius and a tiny duration. at level 6, decrepify is radius 4 yards and lasts just 7 seconds. at 50% chance to cast, this means you have to kill en enemy every 3.5 seconds for decrepify to be 'always on.' 3.5 seconds is not too hard to imagine, unless of course you are fighting baal or lister's pack.

without decrep on demand, this thing becomes a flayer slayer, which is to say, it is only good against tightly packed crowds of multiple weak monsters. imagine chasing ghoul lords around the durance. each time you kill one, the others are too far away to get hit with decrep.

personally i think its a great weapon, and a cool one too, but dont expect huge results from the 50% on death decrep. if you really want decrep on demand, get reaper's toll, either for yourself, or better, for your merc. an act 2 merc's jap triggers decrep constantly with reaper's 33% chance on strike.

I had two. I traded for a "shael" 250% one to complete my axe collection, and two days later one 274% drops from a Baalrun :cheesy:

They are OK, but like you said, the decrep is hardly ever usefull. I used the shael one on my fury ww just for fun, and after some time I switched back to using a 299% upped Ribcracker which was way more effective (CB+without ribcracker I didn't hit the fhr breakpoint)

I played Berkers w/ both, and both do a wonderful job.
Believe it or not I prefer the scourge, I just felt better w/ it I could drop the raven frost for another angelic ring, the AR was insane.
However it’s not an option for ruled pvp.
 
if u start from scratch, u aint gonna kill **** after act 2 in hell. see the problem with every character is that u dont have any items to start with in new season. u better starta mf sorc and then make the barb when u have decent items. id make ww/zerker build, u need leech of some kind, otherwise ur def=0, no leech,no shield, ud die in 2 sec in baal run

That's when you go, Me BO you teleport. Then you spend the whole game using Warcry.
 
u gonna run out of mana. if u planning using warcry the whole game, y dont u use a pally and use aura to support ur party.
