Best Area to Find Runes

So two hell hellforges have dropped me a hel and a ko (boo). Hell countess coughed up an el and eld after 20 minutes to work my druid down to her.

What is the best run/area to find higher level runes (not that I have anything to do with em but just for the collection)...
 
I'd call it the least bad area. The cow lvl because of its crowdity is nice. The pit, WSK, river of flame, chaos sanctuary are all nice places. Go with which one is easiest :thumbsup:
 
I find the crowded areas like flayer jungle or the cow lvl are more likely to drop runes, pit is also nice.
 
I voted "Other," because in my experience, high runes drop so rarely that specifically trying to find them seems pointless to me. From my experience, the Countess is NOT the way to go (unless you have a way to fix the lottery :lol: ). I did over 200 hell Countess runs last ladder, tracking the results of every run, and ended up with Um x1, Pul x1, and Lem x2, all of which are much easier to obtain at the hellforge.

Nothing is even remotely close to the hellforge for runes Gul and under.

For the really high runes, as Soepgroente said, go with the one that easiest, or rather, the one you can kill fastest. It doesn't really matter where you go, as long as you can kill a lot of things quickly. I like running Eldritch, Shenk, Battlemaid, and Stormtree because they're all terribly easy with a javazon. Find places that are easy for you and run them. I highly recommend using at least a fair amount of mf (100+) for these runs, too. It doesn't effect your rune drops, but the runs get really boring if you don't find anything to keep you interested.
 
IMO if you hunt runes you just dont find runes!!!

They drop, but they dont have any ryme or reason and you cna hunt them for weeks to get nothing and then BAM one falls because you killed some boss pack you almost ran past.

Otherwise, if you want to up your drops in general then it is a matter of big packs fuler games and quick kills!!! Flayer, Cows, WS, River. These places are usually full of monsters regardless of game size. SPEED AND MASS and hope.......

i dont know, cows drops terribly in 1 player games and they still arent easy to kill, but many builds can go into the ole Flayer Jungle and create some pretty nasty carnage and run it fast.

Too many 1 hit kill potentials in Cows for my blood without BO and IT might be on the red!

Now if you are after those mid runes like Lum then NM cows could be a good option and a fast run for many builds.

Do as you wish but these are my thoughts......
 
Was just wondering if anyone noticed an area better than others...preferably which met criteria of safety (subjective except for Nith/hell cows I think), probablity of useful other drops and exp can also be gained. Countess had been pretty useless and too slow (although boss pack drops on way are not always terrible). Council was mentioned in rune drop survey as being fruitful.

NM cows might be an idea if I need a specific mid-rune but don't right now.

My sorc has not progressed past act3 and is now level 90 just off hell meph and hell council runs.
 
I vote for other. I think your best bet would be to do a grand tour of all the areas in hell that you can kill quickly that are dense with monsters. Preferably with a decent mf% as you want to find some non-rune goodies as well. I tend to find quite a lot questing as you are forced to kill LOTS of monsters. A grand tour would emulate questing well and you can skip out hard bits and/or boring bits.
 
The swampy pit in hell... in an 8 player game... with a dual weilding dagger barb... with base vitality no BO/shout and max strength.
 
Well cleared pit, tunnels, council, pind, eld/shenk, and wsk/baal (2 times) and..not one rune dropped...not even an el :scratch:. Have to build that barb I gues but I'm thinkin wands.

Highlight was helping Stinger/Jorge take down D-clone (my first). He died in about 2 minutes if that (blizzard seems pretty effective there). Jorge's game so he got anni of course and a sweet one it was (10% xp). Only after did I think of taking a screenie.
 
I had the best luck clearing champ / unique packs on the way to the countess lost of items and some decent runes. And there arent as deadly as they used to be in 09
 
Somewhere other than Hell Countess.

I've only reached her recentlyand ran (maybe crawled is more appropriate) and after several runs the highest I've gotten is a (drumroll).... eth.

I've been running lots of NM Ball and usually eldrich/shrenk because of the pure speed and decided to run down to Nithilank (I know, spelled wrong) he dropped a decent helm but on my way there (during only two or three minutes I foun a Lum and a Dol.

Not the highest runes but after multiple crappy Hell countess runs it was very gratifying. (I call that a vote for other, just cruise around killing stuff.
 
Having finally traded for a nice mixture of combat and MF gear and actually getting a Harlequinscrown from Shenk, B.net must have decided that my luck is used up.

I am finding no sets or uniques atm (340 mf)..and all the runes that drop are ETH or ITH... (making the grand tour of Shenk/Eld/Flayers/Tunnels/Pit/Andy and as far as possible towards Baal...)

..wait, I just a LUM from a chest in RoF..so that makes it officially for me the best spot to find runes now.
