Berserker Questions

How effective is it PvM? I understand there's no mana leach for replenishing, so I'd probably switch to Concentrate with a high-leech weapon every now and then.

What weapons are best? Polearms, Pikes, Axes, Maces, Swords? I wanna but points into one particular mastery. Range wont be an issue, since I'll walk up, kill something, and repeat.

Is defense worth it at all? Do I need to pick up armor gear for anything other than useful mods? Obviously I mean points in Iron Skin...Natural Resist is kind of a no-brainer. Is defense reduced to 0, or some percentage?

Is Dex worth it much? I'll have lots of AR between masteries, Berzerk itself, weapon mods, and Battle Cry (or whichever one reduces defense). I guess I just put everything (or mostly) into Strength and Vitality?

Thanks for your help!

I'm building a berzerker and he's at lv50 now. He will be using Executioner's Justice so I know how much str and dex I need and the rest will put to vit.
For the sk pt, iron skin and natural resist are ALWAYS a must.... You're not ALWAYS in battle and you dont want your barb die before he gets into battle.
I'm going to max axe mastery, bo, berzerk, shout. Struggling to put points in the grim ward path and the war cry path or not.... They're useful skills but consume pretty much skill points from synergies.
A barb, esp a berzerk is INSANE in solo dmg. I think the key strategy is to dispatch a monster crowd by grim ward / howl / war cry, and kick them out one by one, in 1 HIT or at most two! I think he will be extremely VS boss and there's no immune problem.
It's always the key of success to make use of the strength of a certain char. It's stupid in saying that a barb can't do well in cow game.... not effective enough against minion of destructions... Don't forget you can do far better on baal than a sorc

%dtm, +mpk are very good for berserkers :)
barbs are good for utility skills like taunt, howl, and battlecry ;)
as for weapons it depends on what ya can afford. if you're poor, blood axes will work alright
no need defense on a zerker
no iron skin either :P
resist would get ya farther in the game at least
axes and maces require little dex fortunately
0 with berzerk :(
there are a couple of options you could go. all strength and little everything else or minimum str/dex(for weapon) and rest into vitality, you decide
also for zerk barbs if ya go 2handed warcry is your friend :D

even if you are going to use a shield, you want to have very high vitality. this means you either need to do a low strength setup or a low dex setup. or both. i am currently building a berserker using ribcracker, and i plan to spend maybe 40 stat points outside of vitality.

for AR, you want flat bonus gear like angelic jewelry. berserk multiplies AR by a huge amount, but you need flat bonuses to multiply.

Naj's plate will take care of ur mana needs.

Defense: 721-830 (varies)(Base Defense: 421-530)
Required Level: 71
Required Strength: 79
Durability: 60
+300 Defense
Requirements -60%
45% Damage Taken Goes To Mana
+1 To All Skills
All Resistances +25
+65 To Life

use a 2 handed wep,any high damg/fast wep will do,and for the lack of shield max warcry.Mana intensive, thats why I suggested the armor above.

So max zerk
mastery
bo
sht
rest alternate between warcry and howl.

The 2 h wep setup is like taking wep dmg instead of skill dmg, since with a wep/shld setup u don't need warcry, meaning more into howl/shout.But wep dmg is superior to skill damage so I seriously recommend the 2h/warcry setup.

acc t:Keep me posted on how ur barb is doing,I am plannng a 2h zerker on ladder.

I just patted this setup (solo) at lvl 82:

Strength 130
Dexterity 100 (a bit of a waste here, plan was upgraded Headstriker)
Vitality 265
Enery 10

Berserk 20 (31)
War Cry 20 (33)
Shout 20 (33)
Battle Cry 13 (26)
Howl 8 (21)
BO/BC 1 (14)
Find Item 1 (14)
Natural Resist 1 (10)
Sword Mastery 1 (10)
Mace Mastery 1 (10)

Next level 1 point will go into Axe Mastery (since I just got a Death Cleaver).
Gear used through the game:

Headstriker "Shael" + HotO / Ribcracker
Skullder's Ire "PT"
Arreat's Face "PT"
Thundergod's Vigor
Bloodfist
Stone of Jordan
Raven Frost
War Traveler
Highlord's Wrath
Gheed's
4 * warcry skiller
assorted life/resist/mana charms

Why HotO on switch? Simply because no shield offers 30-40% resist all, +3 to all skills, +15% max mana, +10 dex, 40% faster cast rate and +20 replenish life. Also, HotO won't force you into block animation all the time. War Cry stuns anything around you anyways, so block is wasted so you might as well get the biggest bonuses on your off-hand weapon slot, and there's nothing better than HotO there...unless you can afford Beart or the likes for an aura.

After patting, I got my hands on a Death Cleaver which I'm using now. The only gear improvement I can see for setup is a perfect Runemaster with some very expensive runes in it (3*Lo)...that way the Raven Frost could be replaced and there wouldn't be any more cold damage in the setup, so there's more corpses left for Hork. A perfect Runemaster also has better average damage than a perfect Death Cleaver.

Shout is the first synergy I maxxed since it gives your merc a huge defense boost...my merc wears TR Crest and Duriel's shell and has like 10-12k defense after Shout. BO gives me 75% life and mana, for a 1 point investment...total life is ~2500, merc has over 3k life after BO. I'm maxing synergies instead of masteries because 1 point in mastery gives me the bonus of a level 10 mastery, where synergies do not benefit from +skills. Also, 1 point into synery gives a better damage bonus than 1 point in a mastery (10% vs 5%). AR is not required because of Battly Cry...Battly Cry 26 after +skills gives a very handy -100% enemy defense, making to hit only depend on the level difference, AR is totally irrelevant (note how this makes Stone Skin monsters a laugh, since the 3*defense from Stone Skin is negated).

Mana is sometimes a bit of a juggle, but around 400 mana thanks to the SoJ is a good starting point...you can generally last through a fight, provided you don't have to War Cry too often. But seeing the amount of mana potions that are dropped all over, it's not big issue.

great work!

ahhh..finally someone who made use of battle cry & warcry.U knew what u were doing.

Base mastery means u can live of the land, and place the points when u find ur end game wep, boosted battlecry to stand in for ur poor ar due to base mastery.great thinking! It gives dr as well.

There are some flaws though.

Base bo?put more.
Why did u put a point into sword mastery?
Dont put a point into axe mastery too.
U hv overinvested in bc,so dont put anymore.

Use ribcracker as ur main wep.Upgrade it if u have'nt alrdy.Since u have max warcry & battle cry u can go 2h for insane dmg, heck if u find a kick a$$ maul use it.

Well, more points into BO would be nice, but there's just so many points to go around. This 1 point gives me +75% life/mana, for a total 2500 life.

I used Headstriker for the whole end to patriarch, hence the point there. The point in Axe Mastery is justified since I'm using Death Cleaver now.

BC is just right, -100%. Either you totally destroy your opponent's DR or you go the AR route. I'm actually thinking of 1 point more since I've swapped out my SoJ for a Dwarf Star to prevent FE explosion deaths.

Ribcracker is upgraded and deals great damage, but it's 2 frames slower than Death Cleaver. The reason why I don't use it as prime weapon is resists and skills....~40% resist all and +3 skills make a big overall difference in survivability. Ribcracker is really the bosskiller.

Max BO, Shout, Howl, Zerk, the rest is up to you. This way you'll get the necesary things, have a nice leachable atack (concentrate with BO sinergy), and still have some skills to work around (i'll invest minimaly in the stun cry and put the rest into mastery), but it depends on the kind of weapon you'll chose.

you may want to try using the war cry that stuns them (forgot which one) and then attacking you won't have to worry about defnse and stuff but you ultimate weapon would be a tomb reaver if u do it this way u will not need to worry about getting any defence
