battle net down ?

hey guys -

hopfully some one else will be able to give me some info here, been trying to log onto bnet for the past night and now morning and i cnt get on - i get the "unable to connect to battle net" msg - and when i try to go onto the support site that page wont load either -

all signs at the moment are pointing towards battlenet being down ? - but that seems pretty huge -

i cnt see why else i wouldnt be able to get online - my CD keys are not only legit but there brand new - i dont hack and have never used cheats ?

so yeh im a little confused -

any one got some light to shed on this ?

?

ip ban - how did i cop one of those ?

and i spose this explains why i cnt get onto the battle.net/support site too ?

. . .

well, since you're able to access this site (and probably others) but not www.battle.net leads me to believe that you have an internal issue. perhaps you blocked that website on accident, or your router blocked it.

^^ do you have another way to fix this - im on DSL im connected through a router - is there a way to change my IP some how - if i disable and then enable my connection and try again will that work -

thks for you help to by the way :)

it really depends on your ISP. Most routers/isp's these days use some sort of "IP Memory" which means that even though you may turn your computer on/off several times a day, you will still get the same IP when your computer requests one. That's how most routers work.

Actually, i'm pretty sure you WILL get the same IP unless someone else asks for an IP who has never had one before, then they will get the one usually going to you.

Something to keep in mind is that you really have two IP addresses. One for your computer and one for your router. The router assigns the IP to your computer, and the ISP assigns the IP to your router. So you would have to turn off your router and probably wait a little while before you turn it back on, or you're likely to get the same IP again.

This turned out to be a longer reply than I thought...but I hope you found it informative :wink3:

^^ yeh that sorta helped -

i guess what im rly confuswd about is WHY i got my IP banned ?

what do you have to do to get banned - ive been playing for about 2 years b4 now and ive NEVER got locked out -

and how can i tell if this is only going to be for 24 hours like you said ?

Carter - sounds familiar. Except not what these guys are saying.
I was listening to triple J all night, so thought I might try a bit of BW. Guess what? Coundn't log into any starcraft gateway except Asia! And both B.net and blizzard.com aren't found.

The error message I get was that ther server may be down.

And we're both from australia! :/

Try the other servers (asia mainly.) If you can only get onto asia, it's the same thing I got last night/today.

if Drystan and Carter are both having problems from australia, it may be something out of your control. Perhaps the whole country got banned

I'm having the same problem too. I first noticed it last night. Can't log onto bnet (uswest) or battle.net website. But, I can log on to Asia. Go figure, but if someone works out what the problem is, then please post it here.

*Points at sig to confirm Australian location*

Wow - I thought Stompawompa's guess was a joke and long shot! Guess it is an Australia thing.
But 3 aussies all have the same problem, with Asia being fine.

Forget those people saying "Blizz don't care about b.net!" We're saying "Blizz hate Australia!" [/lameness]

It's both StarCraft and Diablo, Australia's getting it, and the Aus's can only get into Asia it seems.
Hmmm. And all happened at the same time. Very strange :(

Oh, and the SC error is something like:
You may be trying to connect to an "INVALID" server. Check you're connected to the net.
Maybe Blizzard are limiting us to Asia/Australasia or something? IE: Limiting based on geographical location.

And I got such good ping and mates on BW B.net US.East too! *Hopes I'm wrong about geographical limiting*

im right in the mood for d2 atm -

:(

I can logon to b.net and reach the web site. (from AU)

Perhaps they have banned an entire netblock? Or there is some sort of route issue. I wonder if you all happen to use the same isp?

Sounds possible. Someone of WoWForums said it had something to do with a node owned by Telstra being down.
I am with Telstra, so it seems like an Australia/Telstra issue. Likely due to a few other sites being down for me lately.

Not sure if I can link to WoWForums, but anyway, here's a few quotes:

The 3 IPs I wrote down in testing:
124.185.129.44 - fails to log in to servers as described by everyone
124.177.68.222 - fails to log in to servers as described by everyone
58.165.120.173 - works fine on the 4 or 5 servers I tried
Possibly the down node has something to do with 124 ips.
I've not tested this, but CelticJazz apparently did.

Yes it would appear that this issue affects those who have IP address in the 124.XX.XX.XX range which this offline node appears to be responsible for. It is up to individuals as to whether they wish to try this however do keep in mind not everyone will [be] offered any other IP ranges other then problematic one. There is also no means to be certain that after logging off your internet connection that you wont be assigned an IP address in the 124.xx.xx.xx range again bringing you back to square one. So i would advise people to treat this as a tempory fix to this issue.

Customer Impact: BigPond customers Nationally may experience difficulties accessing International Web sites. Technicians are treating this issue as a priority and are working on the problem. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

And those guys bump every 10 minutes!

EDIT: Tehehe - I can get into Blizzard.com now.
Also, I found the Service Display Message. It's in bigpond accounts, so you have to log in. There doesn't appear to be any problem like that, except in South Australia where some upgrades are happening. It may be fixed.
Yep - appears fine.
