Automod/ilvl Query

Hello.

I have a dream to obtain some Superior socketed Runic Talons with +3 Venom, +3 Mind Blast, and +3 Shadow Master. Obviously, I need to be kill a certain minimum level of monster to find the Talons but how will I know what level of monster I need to find those specific mods? Are automods tied to ilvl? If so, is there a table listing all the details?

If I find these dream Talons will the level requirement be any different than a pair of vanilla Runic Talons?

Bonuses to single skills aren't automods, but staffmods. They are organized into 6 tiers which are used in the item creation process, together with the item level. See the item generation tutorial which is sticked to the top of this forum. Hit Ctrl-F and search for "tier" to find it.

The claws you're after are certainly possible, and are one of the easiest combinations to attempt to locate, since the ilvl of the item needs to only be higher than 36. Otherwise, there's no playing around with ilvl re-rolls.

Edit: that's not to say that it's going to be easy to find these claws, it's just that you don't need to worry about playing around with the ilvl of the item.

I am not really into the math.
I tried to understand the item generation guide on this aspect. Quoting the sentence written below, I find it tough.
Also Orphan mentions a rift made in a 4 staffmod scepter. Can't it get a maximum of 3 staffmods (+X bonus RDN # > 90) ?

Sorry, when I said 4 staffmod scepter I meant a total of +4 to skills (eg +2 zeal, +2 blessed hammer, or +3 conviction, +1 FoH), and not 4 individual staffmod.

- As the tier list is not fully logic, is there a comprehensive list for all char class ? or more simpler , what are the "delta" like what you wrote in bold ?
- Have staffmods in one tier all the same chance to spawn ? I've never seen +3 Frenzy or +3 Throwing mastery on a weapon.
- any complete list somewhere of items and their possible staffmods ?

Some staffmods cannot spawn at all, simply because they are restricted to spawning on items that cannot spawn with staffmods (unless you're incrediably lucky, see below). Here's some examples:

- Holy Shield, Smite: This is set to spawn on shields, but shields cannot spawn with staffmods, thus these cannot spawn as staffmods.
- Poison Dagger: This is set to spawn on daggers, but daggers cannot spawn with staffmods.
- Double Throw: Set to spawn on throwing weapons
- Double Swing, Stun, Leap Attack, Concentrate, Frenzy, Whirlwind, Berserk: These are set to spawn on melee weapons. Since the barbarian helms are the only items capable of getting barbarian staffmods, these are technically impossible to get.

If you're lucky though, these can still spawn. In order for them to spawn, the game needs to "Fail" selecting a staffmod 3 times and also select the invalid staffmod as it's final pick, at which point it'll simply use that anyway, even if it would otherwise be invalid. The likelihood of this occuring though is incrediably slim.

There's some others, but I ran out of time tonight to check them up (I think it's just some of the assassin skills left). I'll post them tomorrow morning if no-one else has posted them yet.

Items that can spawn with staffmods include:
- Assassin hth2 claws (which isn't all of the assassin claws, but only: Hand Scythe, Greater Claws, Greater Talons, Scissors Quhab, Suwayyah, Wrist Sword, War Fist, Battle Cestus, Feral Claws, Runic Talons, Scissors Suwayyah)
- Druid Helms
- Barbarian Helms
- Wands
- Scepters
- Necromancer shrunkin heads
- Staves
- Sorceress Orbs

Nope. I was writing this last night (and as per the end of my post I was in a little bit of a rush). Your right, it is indeed 6 fails, with the 7th selecting the invalid staffmod and retaining it.

There's some others, but I ran out of time tonight to check them up (I think it's just some of the assassin skills left). I'll post them tomorrow morning if no-one else has posted them yet.

And to also finish this off this morning, there are no assassin skills that are unspawnable (not sure what I was remembering though). Anyhoo, the list I mentioned above should be the only skills that cannot spawn as staffmods without failing 6 times.

Not entirely sure what you mean. The skills are broken up into Tiers, but the same item can get skills from different tiers, as long as they are within range of each other. The ilvl of the item determines which Tier it starts in, and then from there it has a chance of either remaining in that Tier, going up or going down.
