Attack speed for mercs

Does attack speed affect mercs? I'm gonna make a runeword for my act 2 merc, and I'm trying to decided if I should go with Cryptic Axe for damage, or a Giant Thresher if attack speed plays a role.

Mercs are indeed affected by attack speeds/IAS/base weapon speed, etc. Check out http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=718648 for information on Act 2 mercs.

I prefure a thresher. 0.5 less base dmg than a giant thresher, but the requirements are more reasonable.

With a -20 difference from weapon speed, you can jump ias frames quicker. With a CA, and +45% ias, he gets a 6 frame attack, with a thresher/giant thresher it's a 7 frame attack with +45% ias.

It should be 7 frames with CA and 6 frames with thresher/giant thresher.

i prefer great poleaxe. its good average there is a nice calculator on thees sites both for players and mercs.
