Armor for concentrate barb?

Armor for concentrate barb?

Hi, i'm gonna make a new barb since my last 2 were so bad they got their asses kicked by act 1 zombies. It's gonna be a concentrate barb as in the strategy compedium

I'm not sure which armor to use, these are the possible 3:
-CoH dusk
-Duress
-Enigma dusk

Which would be the best?

btw, the other gear is:
-arachnid
-20ias blood gloves
-bk ring
-ravenfrost
-arreats
-highlords
-gores
-stormshield
-weapon still undicieded
-anni

Just in case it has some influence on the armor choice

I think i'll make a CoH due to resis and the if i manage to max them i'll maybe swap for duress and that CoH can go on my trapsin

I actually was going to make a thread similar to this, though my picks aren't quite as.. expensive.

well i have a conc barb n he uses

he does well but i think i need a botd CB and a enigma or sum otha good armor i will gladly trade if anyone has a low botd cb

if ur gana wana take down Dclone tho ur gana need alot of crushing blow just to let you know

yeah, i was thinking about this, cb and ed are useful + cold dmg too but duress has no +skills or %dmg to demons/undead

Any other ideas about which one's best?
 
+skills don't really do a whole lot for barbs, so that's the last thing I would be concerned with when picking an armor.

As Rik mentioned, Duress is a great, affordable choice, as is Stone. Steel Carapace is nice as well, and some of the older, common uniques like Glad's Bane can be quite useful as well. CoH is a great armor, no doubt, but it serves better for other classes than it does a barb.

Is Ethereal Steel Carapace a good option? I just got one and it's too heavy for my pally and I don't really want to remake him. It has 2552 defence and I think it would be pritty cool on a conc barb. If there is some uber gody option what would that be?
 
PvP or PvM?

Either way I'd say CoH if you need resists, and if not then i say go Duress.

+skills don't really do a whole lot for barbs, so that's the last thing I would be concerned with when picking an armor.

I'm thinking about picking the duress, the CoH can go on the trapsin where the +skills are quite important, thx for the replies, i thought +skills were very important and nearly went for the CoH
 
+skills are only a primary concern on builds whose dmg comes completely from skills (all caster attacks, holy freeze and the like). Those builds whose dmg is based on gear do not rely on +skills for anything more than icing on the cake.
 
By the way, I just noticed that the Duress runeword description in the purediablo.com pages is incorrect! I almost made it wrong!! :grrr:
 
say you have a base life pool of 1800 and a base def of 3k, slightly high end numbers for a semi-twinked pvm build.

lvl 20 vs lvl 30 bo
lvl 20 bo = 92% increased life/mana
lvl 30 bo = 122% increased life/mana

1800*1.92 = 3454 life
1800*2.22 = 3996 life
3996 - 3454 = 540 more life

lvl 20 vs lvl 30 shout
lvl 20 shout = 290% edef
lvl 30 shout = 390% edef

3000*3.9 = 11700 def
3000*4.9 = 14700 def
14700 - 11700 = 3000 more def

With good gear, having extra +skills will be totally unnecessary. With crappy gear, extra +skills won't give a worthy enough bonus as your base numbers will be lower. So, while +skills help, they're not all they're cracked up to be.

Can someone do a rough table of possible dmg outputs for a conc barb comparing duress and coh??
 
Also wanted to point out to the original poster, DO NOT use the compendium version of the conc guide, as the administrators have not updated it since November of last year. Instead, hit the link from here in the forum, as it goes to the latest version of the guide.
