A question to ppl who use mods

If I install a mod, will I be able to play multiplayer or will it give error or detect as third party program or something?
BTW, can someone PM me with some nice mods and links to them? since I think we are not allowed to link those in the forum (although I think there is nothing really bad about mods)
I am just looking for more fun in singleplayer since my net has become very unstable and it prevents me to play for a while sometimes.

Hope I haven't "missed" any forum law (seriously don't wanna get banned, too much of a good communitty and forums)

This should be in the Single Player Forum.

No, you cannot play multiplayer (legally) on mods. Some mods will allow you to enter multiplayer games, but they will cause errors.

There is a fairly good mod site out there, but I won't post a link for fear of the ban stick. Do a Google search, and you'll get some results really fast. Don't come back here crying that you got hacked, either...lots of those sites are just trojan warehouses. A warning for you: SPF'ers are not necessarily anti-mod, but you will probably never be able to interact with any of them for trades if you install a mod.

also, there are only two mods that are "supported" by this site anyways. I don't remember them off the top of my head, though.

Best be a topic you keep to yourself about.

Some mods out there have their own servers for multiplayer. One in particular is very strict, and if any part of their TOS is violated, you get permabanned. It's great, no b.net morons or their ilk.

The single player mods that are authorized by this forum are Rune Word Mod (which enables net only runewords in single player) and Red Rune Mod (which turns runes red). They are linked in the single player stickies. Bear in mind if you install them, you will have to tell people before you trade/mp with them. Vanilla players will not interact with you.

If you install any other mod, the spf'ers wont mp or trade with you.

I suggest you try Chaos empire mod.

Very refreshing mod including an almost infinite stash and adds lots of new uniques and sets. Also include kinder surprise.

Even with all the bonus this mods gives you (8stats and 2skills/level) its chalenging cause monster get real tough.

I wonder why experienced players have negative opinion about using mods in Diablo. This is because of Blizzard's official line, probably. In many other games mods are very welcomed. Examples are: almost all FPS games, RPG games like Neverwinter Nights, Oblivion, action games like GTA. Counter Strike was grown as a mod too.

Thanks for the answer everyone, but I'd like to point that the kind of mod that I am looking for is one that can extend the singleplayer , like new acts, new monsters, new skills, etc.

Chaos empire seems good, but no 1.11 version :undecided:

I think that one of the main reasons that most mods are shunned is the fact that;

%98 are Mod = Hack and Trojan.

Not good to encouage someone to install a "good" mode only to find later that they got thier system hacked.

Actually, Blizzard does not have anything against modding FOR PERSONAL USE...it's all these websites venturing into the realm of 3rd party hacks and such that annoys them...

An exception is Open.
Some mods can be used on Open, as long as they're run as the MPQ and not some other way (IE, a VBS file - from experience at least)

Only people with that mod will be able to remain in the game without crashing.

If you plan on playing a mod it is a good idea to back up all the originallt Diablo 2 files. What I do is just copy all the files in the Diablo2 directory to a seperate folder before installing the mod. Mods tend to change these files so you cant actually play on battlenet.
A decent mod I can recommend is Snej mod. contact me privately for information on where to get it.

"Blizzard's line about mods"?? They specifically made note in the 1.10 patch notes that the game had been made easier to mod. They want people to make mods to keep people playing, just like Starcraft.

"98% of mods are keyloggers"?? I think you're thinking of trainers, mods are not .exe files, and really the only places to get mods are a small handful of trustworthy D2 mod sites, unlike 3rd party programs that can be found on a large number of scummy sites.
