I have some money, got pure premium now. Hope it helps a bit
Can I have your $10K then to help pay for all thisI don't care about $1000. I don't even care about $10,000. Well, I'm old.
A million, however...
Careful, its all small coin! Can I have your $10K then to help pay for all this![]()
OK, it seems I was impricise. I don't care about getting $1000 or $10,000. Giving away $10,000 is a different story. Can I have your $10K then to help pay for all this![]()
level 14 holy fire aura with level 38 fire mastery is just about 500 fire damage / attack. Not worth it, viper magi is better here imoUnrelated but I have a question for you smartypants people and it isn't really worth making a thread. If I'm considering overspeccing my Demon Machine sorceress to a ridiculous degree, is Dragon a consideration? She's at +18 to skills (19 after CtA), and I'm not really worried about survivability since cows never get close enough to swing on her. What kind of damage would I be looking at over, say, upped vipermagi's?
Question. How much does it take to run the site? How is it funded at the moment? Any way I can contribute to give back to the community?I did post a note a few days ago in this forum about stuff possibly not migrating but apologies if the post got missed in the move @duck
At some point the forum will be getting an upgrade, it's a pretty major jump in versions but I'll put it into maintenance when we do that. The last attempt at it did not go well but we need to have another crack at it![]()
So everyone knows. The site is funded by ads BUT since the pandemic, the bottom has called out of ad rates by about 40-50%. On top of that hosting has gone up due to inflationary pressures (we were looking at 3K this year which both Elly and I pay). We have one server that drives everything, and we had to cut back this year a bit on the server due to the ads just not performing as we would have seen in previous years. You will all have read about the layoffs in the game sector, well, it's not just developers; it's also impacting editorial sites in a big way. Just this week all staff at Polygon were let go due to an acquisition. So many others have also gone to the wall. It's similar to what happened back in 2000.Question. Thanks for the transparency. So everyone knows. The site is funded by ads BUT since the pandemic, the bottom has called out of ad rates by about 40-50%. There are a lot of factors in play, Google changing the way they present results meaning people get the answers at the top of the search results without even reaching the site. The rise of AI written content is also a huge problem. In other words, we have to work twice as hard to get the same results.
Previously, both Elly and I worked full time on the sites, but last year, due to financial pressures due to the above, I took on a full-time job in the industry with the good folks at NetworkN as Head of Special Projects. Elly was also offered a position at the time, but she felt that she really wanted to stick to working on the sites here. With both of us taking on full-time work, it would have been impossible to give the sites the attention they needed. So now I work the day job, and at night attend to the sites.
Elly and I have sunk most of our lives into this site and our others since 1997, and it's hard to let go, we kind of feel everyone here is part of the family. Plus, both of us love this kind of work. We're always looking to improve things, look at new opportunities to keep us all afloat.
Even if this site goes down tomorrow, I would be glad that I made my contrbution in time.
Great!@drmalawi Thanks for the note on the donate button. PayPal must have changed the code. Fixed it now![]()
Doh, It was activated, the system just didn't flag it with a nice tick. It's sorted and added a week on so you are good to go.Great!
Now, what do I have to do to get the pure premium activated here which I purchased last week? Is there something wrong with that too?
