There seemed to be a measure of composure amongst the room. Perhaps the gravity of the situation had finally sunk in on everyone? Or, perhaps, simply nobody else wanted to be put down like a rabid dog.
The votes came quickly and efficiently. Everyone agreed that kestegs was the assassin. He had to be. To his credit, kestegs took the verdict stoically, and for a long while there was silence in the room as everyone contemplated the deed. Eventually, however, one person spoke up. "Nobody is going to change their mind, so let us just get this over with."
The strikes were quick and merciful. The only pain kestegs felt was that of feeling betrayed by people he once called brothers. Even still, he died with a smile, knowing that his death gave the King another chance to escape.
