Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

I'm not sure either. Maybe RE will leave some breadcrumbs in the Stories. We'll see.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

What are you rambling on about Sath, you are sounding very strange...

Not really, Goryani extensivly responding to those posts is. I had my snappy comments ready but deleted em because it's useless. Discussing the discussion about day one lynches is retarded and for some reason pops up every game. Everyone somehow has a new opinion and everytime it gets attributed to being scum. Yeah the posts weren't very intelligent, but this almost looks like Goryani got trolled.

If we're gonna lynch random on day one then say so, don't use that reason to lynch a first time player. Goryani should know better.

Discuss!

Let's focus on the gameplay instead of game setup.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Do NOT mention the loaf.

Well, we still need to hear from Val, Loz and CG.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Goryani's usual postings are a wall with quotes and such. Why would this day one be any different? Simply because it's made of fluff and no substance? His questions of the "new" people also seems ordinary as well.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Seems I was wrong about having more posting in the pregame than game itself, which is good. Also, I will also not be on at day ends.

Could be wrong here, but from RE's post it seems like the dream chosen before official game start can effect today or this next night phase. I would guess that mafia have in the range of 5-10.

Could be. Do you think the mafia knows exactly what each dream does? Do you think they can choose the same dream multiple nights in a row?

I am curious what clues about the dreams we would gain by lynching a scum?

they can't choose the same twice in a row see REs post. I am curious by what he means by dreams effect day step or night step from when they are cast, but then he said they are only cast at night. That implys the dreams are only around during day (which makes no sense) .....

Dreams effect only the next day step or the next night from when they are 'cast' depending what it is. Each night a new dream is cast, which in turn effects only the next relevent step and so on. There will never be 2 dreams in effect at once.

The story can hint at the dreams effect but may not necessarly do so. Most story will just be flavor.

Bad Jcakes!

Waiting to lynch until we have more info delays when "more info" happens. The pursuit of a lynch let's town power roles make better decisions that night. The pursuit of a lynch lets the town make a better lynch decision the next day. And so on.

Lack of pursuit of a lynch benefits scum in many ways.
Information is kept hidden longer, which allows more information to be erased from town use during a night kill.
Scum don't have to expose themselves trying to lynch a townie (/wave Valhouros)- especially a townie power role.
Scum won't be lynched that day if no lynch occurs.

Vote: Jcakes

Obvious scum trying to hide is obvious.

That is a most curious thing to say. Why would the duration of the current dream affect whether or not we should lynch someone today?

Like I said in my post it was just a question as a relative new commer about how the lynch everyday works when everyone has a powerrole. My main reasoning was if we didn't lynch D1 it gives everyone a chance to use their role and thus have more information. Anyway it was just a question for the more experience people as to how the lynch every day works with power roles. Kegs post explained it very well (without jumping down my throat for asking a noob question of the more experienced people).

RQS for the new players (Solar Ice, Autti, Skjolde):
Do you think mafia have power roles? If so, what power role do you think mafia might have?

RQS for everyone:
How long do you think dreams can last?
How many dreams do you think mafia have to choose from?[/QUOTE]

-See above for my first answer (quoted RE).
-I am not sure, I would assume that it is a largeish pool

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

It seems the game starts and ends for me at 3:00 am, as the forum gramps,I doubt you will see me at that time:wink: Some people will get their wish that I dont wait until the last minute to vote like I normally do.
You can always take your cell phone to the loo for use during the dozen trips in the middle of the night. Perhaps keep a laptop in there.

In reading about the Dreaming God role, I wonder if RE is following the way the mafia site explains it or if he has put his own spin on it.
The Dreaming God being mafia instead of neutral is a pretty big twist. I'd wager the rest of the abilities are closer to the wiki entry than not.

You dissapoint me Goryani, getting suckered so easy. Might even do an extensive meta read on you tonight.

I, and I'm sure many others as well, await the results.

Discussing the discussion about day one lynches is retarded and for some reason pops up every game.

You should temper your words.

D1 discussion about D1 lynches sometimes yields insights about players making it easier to find the mafia. "Sometimes" is enough incentive to undertake the discussion. The "sometimes" seems to occur much more frequently in day start games such as this one.

This topic repeatedly pops up because mafia so often are happy and willing to avoid a D1 lynch. In a recent game, 100% of the scum (you were one!) took actions that resulted in a no lynch on D1 of a day start game. That may be an extreme example, but it isn't an isolated incident. Effort undertaken (lack thereof) to secure a D1 lynch serves as a surprisingly accurate scum detector. It's more accurate than a random lynch and it's accurate enough for me to have no qualms of lynching anyone using that litmus test on D1.

If we're gonna lynch random on day one then say so, don't use that reason to lynch a first time player. Goryani should know better.

I am utterly confused. I NEVER advocate a random lynch on D1 and I'm not doing so this game.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

He's not home at the moment. I think that's why he's not as active.

I know this because I sometimes play BF3 with Kori and chat through Skype.

Thanks for speaking for him? haha. I can wait.

Just want to know if he has one or not and see what he says

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Aren't people often not allowed to say if they have a post restriction?

Lot of back and forth going on and no good lynch targets so far that I can tell. Gory's meta seems perfectly normal to me, then again so does sath's...

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

What game Goryani? Cause its not the one you were looking at.

And you contradict yourself there. You say scum usually work towards a no lynch. Yet Jcakes is a new player and as such would likely just want to lynch townies and wouldn't think about causing no lynches on a day where a no lynch would us of a whole lot of info.

And your vote is random cause your reasoning likely why Jcakes said what he said. Besides imo he only asked what we thought about it and hardly made a case out of it. People who made a discussion out of it nowbring it back.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Bloody phone..

"wouldn't think about causing no lynches on a day where a no lynch wouldn't give us of a whole lot of info."
"And your vote is random cause your reasoning why Jcakes said what he said doesn't make sense."

Just nitpicking here, but it doesn't sit right with me.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Wall of text incoming. Sorry for not being any more active than I was at the start of the day. I thought I posted here that I'd be away until the evening (or night as it is now), because I helped a friend to trouble shoot some computer issues. And since we needed a new high end video card to do so, I brought my own.

Still think it's most likely flavour, but I don't think we should rule the other option out. I guess the investigative roles will no tomorrow, so there's not much reason to discuss it further..

Why do you think it's just flavour? Every single game I've been so far has revealed some clues and hints in the story, nothing too obvious, but they are there. You're right about not needing to discuss the story any further atm though (imo). With that said, I will reference the story if it makes sense doing so while discussing the dream and what effects it might have.

The D1 story sounds like a "give all mafia godfather for the night" or "roleblock all investigators" type of ability. Powerful. And interesting to see that happen on a night when, by mod design, no other actions occurred. Why choose that dream the first night?

I can only think of two reasons.

1. They don't have the dreams fully explained to them, so they have almost as much guess work to do, just like we do with the story hints.

2. If a dream is chosen that only affects night actions, then it would make sense that they are applied either during the upcoming day phase or the next night phase. Especially if since the story seems to hint at a dream that will interfere with investigative results.

RQS for everyone:
How long do you think dreams can last?
How many dreams do you think mafia have to choose from?

Answered above. I'd say either 1 day phase or 1 night phase, depending on the dream.

Absolutely no idea on that part. If they have a mix of reusable and 1 shot dreams, then maybe 6-7? If they are only 1 use, 12-14? Ofc this is impossible to guess at I think, as it also largely depends on how powerful the dream effects are.

I guess my question is if they can chose to use the same dream multiple nights in a row or if its a one and done kind of situation.

If they have dreams that can be used multiple times, there needs to be some restriction. If there aren't, scum can basically use the current dream (if it turns out to block investigations) and be immune to investigations. Most likely they are either 1 use or a mix where 2 (maybe 3) are reusable.

Red flag right there.

Either you are subtly claiming cop (Not a good idea at all if you are a town, that is like a giant bulls eye on you from the start, so I don't think you would risk that and harm the town. Or, more likely, you are fishing for clues to out any possible cop for the you and your scum partners to target from the off.

Or he was doing just what I did, and tried figuring out what the dream actually did. Granted he did so very early, and in a very direct manner. I'd have done the exact same thing in my first game, so I don't see much scum there tbh. I'm a bit interested in why my name as well as the names of others discussing the effects the dream could have on investigative results where not mentioned at all.

I've got my red flag ready...

I don't think that the Mafia know exactly what each dream does, I think that RE still has left a bit of a surprise in that aspect.

Well maybe. I would be surprised if they didn't get to know anything of what the dreams could possibly do. But at the same time it sounds a bit OP to know the exact mechanics of dreams, considering that every player (including scum) is supposed to have a power role of sorts.

korial do you have a posting restriction of any kind?

No? If you only ask that because I was active at the start of the game, and not at all afterwards for several hours then I don't understand what you hope to gain from it. Especially since I posted in this very thread that I would be away.

@Sath: Always so fun to see how you (among others) play mafia games! Feels good to be back in one. Looking forward to many days of fun! =D

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

For the record goryani this is my first gam here and I wasn't sure how you start so I as having some playful banter with Skj. I don't even know half the roles haha. But you do seem awfully intent on over analysisng which seems suspicious to me

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

@Autti: Get used to it. You have a game of 21 players, 20 of which will be reading your posts, most of them looking for clues if the person is scum or not. Everything is analyzed, analyzed again, and if some scum is showing up, analyzed a third time for good measure.

Add to that some speculations, educated guesses and whatnot, and you can understand why it feels like everything is over-analyzed

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Well I'm going to need some sleep. I planned on staying on longer, but it's 1.10 am and I got a job interview tomorrow. Granted it's at 2 pm, but need some time to prepare. Cya all tomorrow!
