If you have version 1.12 the readme will tell you which files to copy from your cd to your d2 folder which will allow you to run d2 without the cd in. Also have you seen that poll titled "Come vote ^^"? In there "PLZ!!!" is one of the choices.

My LOD is V1.12 so I don't know if that has any bearing.
I don't hafta use my CD at all when playing 'cause I'm using a virtual drive. I jez insert my D2 virtualCD in my virtual drive when I want to play.
You can try using other clone devices, too (per advice by my computer geek).
My computer geek told me you jez need the CD for the cinematics. Used to be I couldn't play either if I don't have the CD on my optical drive. But the VCD works just fine when I play. So I guess it all worked out pretty well.
