Season 6 was a starting point for new content and the new Spritborn class but future Seasons will have content exclusive to Vessel of Hatred owners.
When you have part of the game segmented off because it’s only for owners of the expansion, it’s not easy to add new content that can be accessed by everyone as the world expands. In an interview with Polygon, Rod Fergusson stated that owners of Vessel of Hatred will have Seasonal content that only they can access.
“Because we know that the beginning of a season is sort of a fresh starting point, we wanted to launch the expansion at the same time as the beginning of a season,” Fergusson said. “That’s why we launched at the beginning of season 6, so you could roll a Spiritborn as your new thing. So it can feel like a little bit like this expansion is just a single moment in time, and I just wanted to highlight that that’s not the case. We’re going to continue to develop features that will be, essentially, exclusive to Vessel of Hatred owners.”
What could be exclusive to Vessel of Hatred?
There are no details as to what content or features will appear that only VoH owners can access. It’s worth pointing out that it’s unlikely that anyone who is continually playing Diablo 4 is unlikely to have skipped the expansion so most players are going to benefit from any new content that’s added in future Seasons. Core mechanics have to stay the same for all players so it could be features such as new runewords, new companions, or endgame content such as dungeons or something new they cook up.
Whatever they decide to add in future Seasons for VoH owners, Blizzard is going to have to get creative as there’s only been a few Seasons that have stood out so far.
