Rogue

From Diablo 4 Wiki

The Diablo 4 Rogue sticks closely to the classes’ lore from previous games but combat options are a mix of the traditional Rogue, the Assassin from Diablo 2: LoD and Diablo 3's Demon Hunter.

The Rogue is a fast-paced character proficient in both close combat with two one-handed weapons and also from afar with a bow or crossbow and with traps and grenades.

Some of their skills allow them to move very quickly or in stealth mode directly to a foe and if Energy is well-managed and some attention given to reducing skill cooldowns their attacks are overwhelming.

Rogue Fundamentals

  • Resource: Energy - Refills automatically
  • Weapon Slots: Two x One-Handed melee weapons. Ranged.
  • Dismount Skill: Volley
  • Rogue Skill Trees:
    • Basic - Energy regeneration via melee and ranged attacks. Build Combo Points
    • Core - Melee and ranged attacks dealing physical damage. Use Combo Points
    • Agility - Accelerated movement-based skills
    • Subterfuge - Stealth, traps and shroud
    • Imbuements - Enhance weapons with cold, poison or shadow damage
    • Ultimate - Traps, stealth and arrows
    • Masteries - Damage, Attack Speed, Crit but only one at a time
  • Rogue Specialization:
    • Combo Points - Unlocks level 15. Build up to 3 Combo points with Basic skills and offload when using next Core skill.
    • Inner Sight - Unlocks level 20. Fill up Inner Sight gauge, when full gain unlimited Energy for 4 seconds
    • Preparation - Unlocks level 30. Unknown but could be connected to Cooldowns.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths Weaknesses
* Very fast and nimble combat * Can be vulnerable with fewer defensive capabilities.
* Deals high damage * Requires quick reactions to move away from attacks.
* Ability to switch between ranged and melee combat. * If working with combo points is not your thing then the Rogue might not be for you.
* Ability to imbue weapons with Frost, Poison, or Shadow. * Awareness of positioning.
* Traps

Rogue Skills

The Rogue has access to multiple trees of active and passive skills and full details of those can be found on the Rogue Skill Tree page.

Rogue Specializations - Class Mechanic

The Rogue has three opportunities to specialize her build the first of which becomes available at level 15.

Combo Points

Diablo 4 Rogue Specialization Combo Points
Up to 3 combo points can boost a Core Skill

At level 15 the Rogue will be offered the quest True Potential from Leyranna in Menestad. Once completed the Rogue can specialize in the Specialization Combo Points.

Using the Rogue's Basic skills will build up to 3 Combo Points which are displayed above the level-up bar. When the next Core skill is used it will be boosted by powerful effects depending on how many Combo Points have been built up.

All the Core skills can be boosted by Combo Points.

Inner Sight

This Specialization becomes available at character level 20.

An enemy is marked above with a purple eye and whilst attacking it the Rogue's Inner Sight gauge will fill up. The more powerful the attacks the quicker the gauge will fill. Once filled the Rogue has unlimited energy for 4 seconds.

Should an enemy not be taken down within 10 seconds, the mark will move to another enemy. When all enemies are dead the Inner Sight gauge will return to zero but the energy orb will be full.

Preparation

This Specialization becomes available at character level 30.

Preparation resets the Ultimate skill cooldown in exchange for Energy. Using the Ultimate Skill will also reset all skills.

Imbuing Weapons

Which Rogue skills can be imbued? Rogues can imbue weapons with special powers that apply Cold (including freezing), Poison or Shadow damage to the next two attacks. It doesn't matter if you use a ranged or melee weapon.

The following skills can apply these Imbuements:

Skills that execute multiple attacks such as Barrage, Flurry, Rapid Fire and Dash will count as only one imbue attack .

An example of imbuing a weapon would be Cold Imbuement in skill slot 1, and Rapid Fire in slot 2. You would press 1 to apply the Cold Imbuement to all three weapon SLOTS and the next Imbueable skill (as listed above) you use will apply the Cold Imbuement effects.

The Imbuement passives can further amplify the Rogue's attacks with Imbued weapons.

Certain Legendary Aspects specific to the Rogue can also affect Imbued weapons. These are:

Items and Weapons

The Rogue can equip the following weapons:

  • Bow
  • Dagger
  • Crossbow
  • 1-Handed Sword

There is no need to manually swap between weapons when using different skills, the game will automatically swap to the appropriate weapon type depending on the skill used with no delay.

Rogue History

Rogues are members of an all-female guild, renowned for their archery and combat skill. The official game fiction reads as follows:

The Sisters of the Sightless Eye are a loosely organized guild shrouded in mystery amongst the peoples of the West. These highly skilled archers employ ancient Eastern philosophies that develop an “inner-sight” that they use both in combat and to circumvent dangerous traps that they may encounter. Known only as wandering Rogues in the West, the Sisters conceal their secret affiliation by posing as simple travelers. Many pompous fools have made the mistake of underestimating these steel nerved women in combat and paid a terrible price for their vanity.
The strange events transpiring in Khanduras have caught the attention of many of these Rogues. They have come from as far as the Eastern dunes to test their skills against the dark evil that is said to be lurking in Tristram. It is also believed that untold riches wait to be discovered among the ruins of the ancient cathedral.
Although not as powerful in close combat as the Warrior, the Rogue is the undisputed master of the bow. A skilled Sister can send a stream of arrows at an opponent, each fired with a seemingly careless precision. The innate sixth sense that all Rogues seem to possess also allows them to sense trapped fixtures, and aids them in attempts to disarm these traps.

The sisterhood is shrouded in mystery amongst the local people, and not very much is known about the organisation. It’s known the Order was started some hundred years ago with the help of the Horadrim, who pledged the Sisters to guard the pass from Khanduras (and Tristram) to the East. They upheld this pledge until about 20 years ago, when their monastery was invaded by demons, and many Sisters corrupted by Andariel.

The Sisters employ a religious/military structure and is at least to some extent interested in gathering monetary riches, although this might be the goal of individual sisters rather than the Sisterhood itself.

Known only as wandering Rogues in the West, the Sisters conceal their secret affiliation by posing as simple travellers. Many pompous fools have made the mistake of underestimating these steel nerved women in combat and paid a terrible price for their vanity.

The sisters are not only located in the West, as there are sisters as far away as the “Eastern dunes”.

Rogues returned in Diablo 2, as the main NPCs of Act One. It was their monastery through which the Dark Wanderer passed, waking demons and calling forth Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish, to corrupt and defile the Sisters and their stronghold. Rogues could be hired as mercenaries in Act One of Diablo 2, and as part of the game fiction players learn that the rogue character from Diablo 1 returned to the Monastery and was corrupted, eventually becoming Blood Raven, a demon archer you must defeat in one of the earliest quests in Diablo 2.

The Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye is known by many names, as any dear child. They are naturally all quite similar.

  • Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye (primary)
  • Order of the Sightless Eye
  • Sisters of the Sightless Eye
  • Rogue Sisterhood
  • Sisters
  • The Order

Fun Fact

In Diablo 2, one of the Rogues that can be hired as a mercenary is named after this site’s founder. When playing Diablo 2 Resurrected lookout for the mercenary called Elly. Two other Rogues were also named after previous staff members that worked with us during Diablo 2’s development, Gaile and Flux.

These characters were named after our staff as a special thanks from Blizzard North for all our work and support during Diablo 2’s development.
