*Yet* another Duress question

Ok, I'm not a rich gamer by any stretch ..

I have managed to get the Um I need for Duress, and being my only Um, and being that Duress is the last thing I need for my barb, I want to make sure I don't blow it in a crappy piece of armor. I don't really care how it looks on my barb :uhhuh: .

I can get 3 os Archon plate with 490def .. is that worth the runes? Since my barb has pretty high str I could wait for a 3 os superior lacqured plate or sacred armor with 600+ base def .. but is the def difference really that much when push comes to shove? I PvM only, no PvP at all.

Also, I realize that medium reduces run speed by 5%, and heavy by 10%, but is that *really* that much of a liablility?

If you are pvm,you can afford to go easy with stats-more points in strength wont hurt(but that depends a lot on your build).So go for high defense/looks/heavy,ofcourse heavy/light matters ony if you are ww.A good idea to mention the build aye?

Opps sry .. conc barb (sword - grandfather) based on Halciet's guide. Also using SS, Arreat's, Dracul's, GR's, Highlord's, Verdungos, BK, RF and two cows.

I would usually strictly suggest archons, as stat points saved from strength + no penalties outweighs the defense bonus; however, since you mentioned you're pvm and already have the strength for either, it's purely personal choice. The 5% r/w penalty is actually a lot larger than it sounds, since it applies at a different point in the speed equation; in other words, one 5% fr/w charm won't make up for the -5% penalty from the armor. On the other hand, you don't have to worry about it in pvm. I made my duress in a Archon, but either is fine. 490 is a somewhat low one, so if you got really lucky and hit the 200% ed it would only come out to around 1470 defense. A 600 ed armor would roll out to 1800 defense with a luck. In reality, the extra defense isn't going to make that big of a difference, but neither is the run/walk and stamina penalties, so just take whichever of the two you'd rather have.

KEEP IN MIND that putting Duress in a metallic superior armor is going to drive up the repair costs to INSANE amounts. If you have a seperate character that goes about getting gold for you, then you have nothing to worry about, but just be forewarned that it's going to cost a lot to keep it repaired, should you go superior.

gf is str req 189 & +20 to all stats bringing the strength to 209,thats enough str to put on laquered,so it upto you which to choose,just remember Hal's point on repair costs as well-there is a sticky in the guide on armor appearance FYI.

As a side note, I would agree with Raz on this one - I'd go for the extra defense in this instance, since the only pitfall you're facing is the speed penalty.

If u only pvm i think u have much better choices of armors out there then dures,, the rezists are low, ow wont help u much( and this is the primary reason pvp barbs use it) , and high defense;;well u can get with ather armors too.

If i was u,, i would use a simple duriels shell/arcanes/shaft(if u dont have dmg red)/Ga,... and there are pleanty armors better then duress that u can buy for an um and/or upgreade it.
