I'm guessing if I didn't get the role PM, much like everyone else, I'm supposed to be a vanilla townie?

A more likely answer is that when Gorny said he finished with the Role PMs, he actually meant that he finished creating them. I'm guessing that he has not sent out any roles to anyone yet, as the game has not started.
