I'm using a cordless mouse+keyboard. The keyboard needs batteries less than once per year. For the mouse I use NiMH accumulators. They last for 3-4 weeks, then I recharge them. I'm sure I had more mouse cable problems of the "DOWN, go DOWN, $%&#* mouse !!!!" kind than I have battery problems now. It's also an optical mouse, so no more "MOVE, $%&#* mouse cursor !!!!" problems as well. The ball and rollers got messy quite quickly from hairs, boogers, chocolate, partly dried beer and whatever else ends up on my desk.
