Why do you play Single Player?

Why do you play Single Player?

Not sure if this has been done before, but i'm curious. Everyone must have a reason. :scratchchin:

Personally I feel like it's more of a challenge, playing through at P8 seems like a much funner way to do things then grush a charactar to hell and get him to 90 in one day. It feels...more pure to me. Almost the way the game was meant to be played.

What about y'all?

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

I just dislike the battle.net enviroment as a whole. I'm sure thats been talked to death, so I wont go to the details, but I cant stand the people there.

I much prefer playing alone, spiced with player interaction via these forums. :)

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

What Low Key said. I've met some nice guys on Bnet but generally the mentality is that of a twelve year old. (Apologies to any 12 year olds reading.)

Plus ... ATMA/GoMule. Packrat + Bnet mules = Thy not playing.

The SPF atmosphere is just *so much better*.

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

Plus SP avoids having to deal with dupes/hacks, at least on the level they're used on BNet.

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

I'm married. Multiplayer mode is not conducive to pausing when summoned. Failure to pause when summoned is not conducive to staying married.

Thats gold!

I've got many reasons but no home internet connection currently trumps them all!

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

Well i stopped playing after about 7 years but then diablo 3 where shown and here i am.....

there are many many reasons to play sp all who play sp have their own reasons.

but here are a few reasons why i played sp.

1 you play on your own terms, im the kind of player who like to explore the game world. so to play on bnet no thanks i hate rushing.

2 all drops belong to you.

3 you can explore and experiment with new class builds. i would never have made a sniper zon if i had played only on bnet.

4 while most members of this sites forums are mature many on bnet where not, i dislike having people with no respect for other people ruin my gaming experience.

5 Atma see description of packrat or grailer and you know what this is about

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

The SPF community is awesome... Depending on how involved you get, you pretty much can have all the positives of the Battle.net experience here without all the n00bs/hacks/dupes/lame stuff. Plus ATMA/GoMule and static maps rock.

Edit: And /players8 rocks.

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

1 - Tournaments
2 - p8
3 - No lag
4 - No temp bans
5 - No 12 year olds
6 - All items are mine
7 - No pkers
8 - Actually a point in playing the game

Probably could go on for days

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

Seeing as how, at times, I feel my mercenary is already a crowd... I'm not sure my fragile sanity could cope with the arglebargle of the average bnetter. And when I go over the ragged edge, for some reason, so does my computer, and going over the ragged edge is not conducive for a long life, neither for a person nor for his/her computer system.
And whereas my sanity means little to me (on account of that, once I loose it, I probably won't miss it anyways (and I love rooms with a single color theme and soft walls!)), in general I feel that my computer system deserves a better fate then that.

EDIT: Also, the average bnetter is not 12 years old. The reason this misapprehension has taken root is quite simple really, and lies ni the fact that they are in general incapable of counting past 2 AND in counting without any form of visual aid. So when asked for their age, they go

1... 2... Ehm... whats next? Dont know.... Mummy!!!! Oh shucks, she thinks I'm doing math. Gotta split!
Now when we remove all the added thought embellishments, we are left with:
12

See?

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

Seems to be a general consensus among most of the ideas.

Me finally creating a decent discussion thread is a sign. That I created it in this forum is an omen of things to come, I think.

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

This is one of the more interesting threads I've seen here in a while. Pretty much a "why do you hate bnet" thread haha.

1a - ATMA! *bows before the greatness of ATMA*
...
9 - Reroll till you get a great map, then keep it

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

But it also harbors a disadvantage.

Who to blame when you die?
LAg? No, there is none.
Pkillers? - No, there are none (apart from the PEBKAC situation that is the current issue of course)
Too much spam from other players? - No, there are none.

That leaves...
a) My computer suddenly suffered from a severely belated case of Y2K and locked up on me.
b) I forgot I had to get married, and had to split.
c) I remembered I had to get married, but I just had to get that perfect Wedding Ring for the wife with +50 life and +100% Gold Find. I was rushing soo hard that I failed to see the danger...
d) Terrorists shot me in the shoulder just as I was about to static field mephisto with my sorceress.
e) My cat and my dog wound up fighting on top of my keyboard.

Oh, who am I kdding? There are still PLENTY of excuses left for dying. I haven't even touched the 'temporary blurring of the eyes due to a peak in teta-particle bursts from the monitor, in turn caused by a lightning discharge within a square mile radius from point of play.

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

I play SP because of the lag/mentality/(insert any of the standard reasons here) of bnet. Also, I began getting ISP banned for 7 days at a time even when I hadn't logged on in a few days...what a lovely banning system they have when it's someone else's fault that plays on your ISP and the whole lot suffer for it.

Anyway, I used to think the only way you could attain good items was to trade, and all of that was highly suspect for being dup'ed. Since reading the SPF I learned I didn't have to trade at all to get a good stash going (ugh, and did I say I hated mules in bnet and didn't learn how to use them well LOL). Also, the SPF promotes a higher standard of ethics, courtesy, and gray matter stimulation, which are some of my favorite things in RL anyway. :) Only my slant on things...no offense to anyone sold on bnet.

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

I'm on the same reasons as most people really - annoying people on bnet put me off it. Plus GoMule. And static maps. And the SPF.

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

I am mostly forced to play SP. For some unknown reason, I am always horrendously on Battlenet ever time even though I have a good cable connection. I can't even count the number of times I have died to corpsefire

Hopefully, this will be fixed when Diablo III comes out or I might have to get myself a new ISP

Re: Why do you play Single Player?

I play SP so I can keep my characters and not have them deleted every several months.

The person who brought up "playing on your own terms" brings up a good point. Not only with all the rushing that goes on, but I always seem to be restricted by bnet itself (server is down, can't pindle run, huge lag even when I'm playing by myself, things like that)

While I'm careful to keep myself clean and stay legit, and everyone I've mp'ed with are people I trust, it's not something that I care about nearly as much as the above.
