which is better for untwinked

I'm interested in playing a necromancer untwinked and I'm either looking at being a bone or a poison necromancer. I won't have to bother with putting any points into summons because I'll be playing with a friend of mines summoner all the time. So which is more untwinked friendly: poison or bone?

I think both are quite feasible if your friend has summons. I'd probably go for Bone though. For a poisonmancer you need Lower Resist which would interfere with your friend's Amp Damage. Bonemancers can do without Lower Resist, so you can focus fully on Bone Spells.

bonemancer has more synergy (i guess) with a summoner, but untwinked bone necros tend to have pitiful damage in even medium-sized games

How would a poison necros damage be if I had to compromise with her using amplify damage as oppose to my lower resist? If I was sticking to just me and her in a 2 person game would a bone necro be good enough even through hell?

edit: also I suppose I'll ask here rather than create a new thread but when I can teeth can an enemy be hit by all the teeth (like with charged bolt?)

teeth, like multishot, can only hit once target per... tooth. and that's where the dilemma comes in, as pnova without lower resist is pretty shoddy as well :)

what sequoia is trying to say is that each monster can only be hit by one tooth per cast :)
the rest of the teeth will go around them

Alright so there's still the question. Would I be better off with poison or bone. Someone said bone does mediocre damage in medium size games but if I stick to just a 2 player game would I be alright? The damage that poison does looks alot higher than bone...I've read on here that lower resist still applies even if it get overwritten as long as the spell hits the monster while lower resist is still on. If I did that would I be better off? How does poisons damage without lower resist compare to the bone spells?

An untwinked necro should make use of the best pvm spell of the game:
corpse explosion

if u build a psn necro u can still max corspe explosion after maxing your poison synergies. with regards to amp or lower resist, corpse explosion work well with either spell. furthermore, u will have spare points for curses, clay golem and revives if u intend to progress to lvl 90 thereabouts.

as for bone necro, i feel the dmg output is too little for untwinked, and u cant afford to sink many points into other areas. a good faster cast rate, important for a bone necro, will probably also be lacking.

Yeah, but in this case his friend (summoner) will already have CE, so what you want it a skill that makes the first kill, and can kill bosses (possibly the weakness of summoners). I'd say go for Bone, also as I mentioned before because you don't need curses.

But frankly, unless you really want to make 2 necros I wouldnt recommend Bone OR Poison; both are pretty boring and there are builds that are much more effective in combination with a Necro Summoner:
- Blizzard Sorc (freeze all monsters for the skellies to finish them off)
- Zealot Paladin (with Fanaticism aura)
- Multi / Strafe Bowazon

Well I've already had a bunch of sorcs in the past and as such I wasn't really interested in making another. As for the paladin, I'm also not too interested in playing an untwinked melee character through hell...I much prefer casters when I'm going untwinked. Anyway so I think my friend is focusing much of her skills in the summoning and curses tree...don't know if she'll go for CE. So far the choice between bone and poison is still in the air...half the people are going for one or the other. Is it just going to come down to personal preference? It seems like bone has a slight advantage over poison vs bosses because of bone spirit correct?

Anyway we're only to act2 so I am considering a strafer...and hrm I wonder how a druid caster would do.

See the thing I suppose thats giving me the most trouble is that I'm not exactly sure how fast a summoning necro kills late game untwinked so I don't want to make a super powerhouse character that blows guys away before she can do anything.

heh with summoner in 2 players game I would be more concern if u get anything to do :p

necro&necro sucks man,
let her play necro u chose other char...
since soso is out...
and meele is out (but i would reconsider since u would be not to powerfull to dust necro and also twinked or not amplify will double your dmg)
I would say trap assasin or ele druid, but that straffer u mentioned would be perfect for you... take that amplify bonus, and not too powerfull to do all killing alone....

Go with a hammerdin, then. You will have sick damage, and summon damage will also be sick because of the concentration aura. The only issue is that you might get bored of the slaughtering pretty quickly.

Anyways, I would probably go poison if I have to go necro, and be the one controlling the curses. You can LR, nova, then amp.

An Elemental Druid is an option. I've played a Fire / Summoning Druid a couple of times, and Fissure (for groups) and Volcano (for monsters) are awesome. Especially if you don't bother with summons so you can put all points in synergies. Except you probably want Oak Sage. a Wind Druid is also very strong, obviously, but I've never liked playing them in PvM.

Read this for inspiration:
Multiplayer small-party combinations

me and a few friends ran two hammers + summon necro

fanat, conc, might merc... irresistable magic damage except for those wailing beasts which will obviously die to skellies.

best magic damage in game, best phys reduction curse (amp), CE... it was boring though because it was way too easy
