This thread is NOT a good idea, SPF stands firmly against mods. Shame on you veterans for actually contributing to it.

What are you talking about? there is nothing wrong with this thread, a member is interested in mods, sanctioned or not, we arent discussing and in depth things, just names of good mods.

SPF stands firmly against mods if u plan to trade, like it has said infinite times before, what you do on your computer is your business, as long as you make people aware of what you intend/have/want to do before hand.
Escape from the Afterlife is a good mod.

If you want me to, black_death6 i can PM you the website to look at mods.
Just remember the rule, if you are using mods, make people aware. In fact, if its a mod that changes the game alot, dont trade, you want to avoid controversy as much as possible.

Greybeard, Atma.

Some rules hurt the sp community more then they help.

Yeah... I was only medium-serious about it, one of those "fake armchair-modding" kind of things. I think that there are several mods out there that could and should be allowed: A global ban on ALL mods is like banning water because some terrorist could put anthrax in the water supply.

Correction: if you use a mod at all, you cannot trade.

That having been said, I've heard of some excellent mods and playing them is pretty excellent for some change--although making them run on a Mac is beyond my absolute lack of modding know-how.

But they are the rules, nonetheless. This has been debated countless times and comes back to the same place each time.

This mod site is listed on the Links list from the purediablo.com homepage (same folks that run these forums correct?) so I don't see any harm in posting this link.

<link to competing site deleted - AE>

AlterEgo or Kremtok, if posting links that are part of purediablo.coms own link list's are against the rules I apologize and understand you removing the link. However I would like to talk with you via PM if that is the case just to clarify any questions I might have at that time.

Back to the subject at hand. I don't play with Mods or plugins for DII, but if its linked on DiabloII.net it should be of reasonable quality.

To summarize the site and SPF position on game mods:

* It's ok to talk about mods

* It's ok to play mods

* It's not ok to trade items inthe SPF trade thread if they were found while playing mods, unless you make it very, VERY obvious to the person to whom you are trading.

* It's not ok to use the SPF for a technical support thread for any mods

* It's not ok to link to any sites that provide game mods
(This one is true even though, yes, there are a couple pages on purediablo.com that provides some links. Believe me, I've discussed this issue directly with Elly & Gaile, and the links are not to be included in posts here. I will follow up with Flux about the other pages.)

Using a mod on a macintosh is easy. You just take the "mod" and rename it to be "Diablo II patch" Then replace that file in your diablo 2 folder. Just remeber to back up your characters and the 1.10 patch.

most banning type rules do

posting a link to a mod isn't hurting anyone... it's simply saying "here's a link to some mods you might want to try". saying that someone can't post a link to a mod is pretty ****ing stupid. on the other it whoever runs the board has the right to run it however they want to... but i've always tought that this board has some of the stupidest rules and "ethics" i've ever witnessed before.

and if i'm coming off as a jackass in this post then that's fine - i just think this board is really tight assed sometimes.

people come here to ask about Diablo 2 and for information on things they want - not to have a bunch of people tell them what's right and what's wrong and why they're no good because they like to play games a certain way.

and in the end it's only a game. people need to calm down about it. posting a link or asking/answering a question is hurting no one...

The problem isn't that they are posting to the mod. The issue is that the sites always have forums, which compete with this one. The owners simply don't feel it's necessary to provide links to competing forums.

Many people feel that others' ethics are stupid. Some try to understand the thinking behind them, and conform a bit when voluntarily joining the group. Also is it really necessary to use vulgarities to express yourself?

Since you ask...

To me, you come off in this post the same way you do in most others. You seem to generally dislike the way this site & forum are run. You drop in occasionally to berate others on their posts, not quite flaming, but close. IMO, you don't normally add a lot of value to the threads you choose to attack. Jackass, not really. Flame bait, yup. :uhhuh:

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were chaos' brother.

You know what mate, I would love to give you a good talking to, but seeing as I've only just come back from 1 banning, I don't want to have another...

So until I settle back in...

@ Baal
Your opinions are your own, and I won't try to change them. However, I would like to ask you this. If you disagree with this board so much, why do you bother sticking around? Surely you're you know your way around the internet well enough to google for other (competeing) message boards that suit your tastes more.

I'm not telling you to leave; I think all opinions should be intelligently represented. I'm just wondering why you're still here.

Edit: Should you wish to discuss this further, feel free to PM me.

Back on topic!
I've never played a mod, myself. Never really saw the point. Regular LoD hasn't lost its luster, yet, and when it does, I'll probably try some earlier patches to see what they're like. After that, if I haven't found another that game suits my fancy, I might try a few mods. They seem rather interesting. ::makes a mental note of the mods mentioned here for future reference::
