What should i do with my Mal rune?

Well, there's the question - here's the explaination:

Many moons ago....

I was taking my sorceress through Hell. When we got to hellforge, out popped a mal rune from the forge.

Now, i dont like high runes. I dont like trading them - obvious problems. I dont like keeping them - i get the feeling i should be using them, but dont want to waste it. Should i use it for this...or try to cube up to that elusive zod...like that'll ever happen. Finally, i dont like giving them away - I dunno, if i recieved a free Mal rune off someone, id be a bit suspicious. Plus id be passing on the same problems i have to them, unless they have a good use for it.

Any ideas?
It takes 1024 Mals to make a Zod. By the time you find that many Mals you are most likely to have actually find a Zod.

I'd suggest keeping it, and cubing up to an Ist, which needs 2 Mals, to get MF..

Or just keep it in a stash for the future incase you need it :thumbsup:
You MUST keep it. You could make a Venom (Tal+Dol+Mal) runeword in a dagger of some sort, and make hybryd necromancer (dagger/bone), that could also wield marrowwalks, and use maxed poison dagger, some points into curses, and everything else in bonespear, bonespirit, teeth and bonewall. Or a dagger/summon hybrid. Or get a gul and make a kingslayer.
Btw I also recently got a Mal from Hell Forge.
First reaction is to just trade it. Second reaction if you are so inclined to wait a while is to save it for cubing up to the Ist.

I recently traded our Gul for 2 Ists because I had no use for a Gul, but wouldn't mind making a cool Ali Baba with 2 Ists in it. Then within about 2 weeks later (just the other day), I find another Gul in WSK#2 if I remember correctly. But now I can't trade it away like our last one because now there is no Rune trading on the forums.

So like you, now I have a high rune for which I have no use and the items I do have use for, I can't use the Gul to trade for it/them. You are now stuck with a high rune.

It looks like you are going to have to keep it until the right time for which it can be used or traded. We had our first Gul sit in our stash for months before we decided to do something about it sitting there. You may have to also.

Keep it. Runes are too rare to just throw away. As a corollary, they are too rare to trade without some bit of suspicion. And as you have mentioned, giving them away will raise even more questions. You never know when you might find a runeword that might be interesting to play with.
Regardless of the low chance of finding a high rune, a Mal rune is needed for some nice runewords:

If I just had a Mal rune (my highest rune is still Um :yawn: ), I would definitely keep it and hope for a Ber, Gul or Ohm to drop! ^^

Kingslayer is a VERY nice weapon - it can be used on a lot of different builds (probably best put in a phase blade). It's good for a Furysin, Kicker, Frenzy Barb, Enchantress, Paladin, the list goes on. It does, however, require a Gul and an Um rune, so you're still a little ways off - but it is a very nice runeword.

Sanctuary may also be an option, however, it doesn't have that many uses so I'd save the rune. An upgraded moser's shield has about the same blocking and the same resists, so it saves you the rune.
Definitely keep it. It's pretty useful for the runewords listed above, or to cube up to an Ist.
Keep it. I put my second of 3 (I found #2 & 3 within 48 hours of each other!) in a Kingslayer Colussus Blade for my whirler. That weapon kicks butt! definately recommended here.

Strange, I am looking for Mal rune to make a Sanctuary Shield for my Zon. Now I am using Pdiamonded Moser's.
Sanctuary Hyperion has better block (69 vs 62)
Sanctuary also has +20 DEX it helps block a lot
Sanctuary Hyperion has same Resistances (50-70 vs 63)
Sanctuary also has 7 mdr helps resistance a little
Sanctuary Hyperion has better defence (-310- vs -170-)
Sanctuary also has +250 Defence vs. missiles (and missile attackers matters)
Sanctuary also has +20 FHR and it helps too.
Sanctuary Hyperion has worse Faster Block (25 vs 30) -its the only disadvantage, and its a small disadvantage even if that means 1 frame slower block with jav.

Personally, i have 2 KOs ready...

This is probably such a newbie answer that it is wrong, but I have been waiting to get one to make a Sanctuary (ko-ko-ma)! But I am sure that there are better recipies for a mal. But if not, then I do have an answer for someone!!!
well Sanctuary is a good shield, but an up'd moser's comes pretty close to it, so there are often better options for a Mal rune - but to each his own

it lacks elemental damage (unless you make use of the vengeance) but with OW, PMH, CB and -target def, you are going to do massive damage to everything you attack. just make sure you have some elemental damage somewhere else and you will trigger OW & PMH on PIs

Just an example. I would say keep it and make a good runeword when the opportunity and runes come around. I kept the Mal for over 3 months before getting around to making it for my zon and chargeboltress.

Some people just like to give high-end runes to him for some reason.
